On a happy note though, Bravely Default is amazing. I know it probably seems like as a Final Fantasy fan I'm impossible to satisfy but this game is what I want from Final Fantasy.

It's fun to play, it's got characters that are easy to invest in. And it's got all the classic magic, skill, and job stuff from Final Fantasy games. Lots of open adventure. An actual art style. So when I say I want better Final Fantasy games I mean games more like Bravely Default. This game is the real deal.
Yeah, I really love the game. It's pretty enjoyable though I heard the last 16 hours are tedious. Where are you at in the game right now? I'm in Ch. 2 though I'm busy trying to level up my first jobs (e.g. Monk, White Mage, Black Mage, and Knight); I already maxed up my town too :XD

I'm still in chapter 1, I just made it to a hilariously pervy sage guy. My characters are about levels 16-17. And I've got access to Monk, White Mage, Black Mage, Knight, Thief, and Merchant

------------------------------------

I'm not sure how the story will progress, but right now I'm absolutely loving it. I even read Ringabel's book entries, and I don't usually do that sort of thing.

In the demo I never really got much of a feel for the characters but to me that's one of the things I'm enjoying most. Edea is my favorite but Agnes, Tiz, and Ringabel are also solid; and I absolutely love the "Tales style" vignettes. It's so great to have a Final Fantasy type game that borrows from the better elements of Tales.

The town part is neat but doesn't feel like it quite lives up to it's full potential. I love that it borrowed the idea from Suikoden and White Knight Chronicles but it's not quite meaty enough to really be satisfying to me. I know that wouldn't have been feasible in this game for budgetary reasons but maybe next time.

Well, the town will have some good weaponry and whatnot that help though it will take a while.

Are you talking the sequel? I'm planning to buy it when it comes over. :amuse

Don't get me wrong I love the town, love the whole concept. It just doesn't contribute to the character development or story much.

How much cooler would it be if you could walk around or have base that you can use to unlock special vignettes or jobs. Maybe have some villagers with stats and personalities that provide boosts. Or have it open up minigames, like cooking or fishing (such as in Suikoden) Or be able start and adventure guild and send adventures out to have a chance to find money and items based on their skills (like in Breath of Fire). There is so much room for depth there.

And yeah I'm pretty much already 100% sold on the sequel.

Got it. Yeah, it would be nice to interact with the villagers. There's nothing left to do with the village when you maxed out all of the shops except when they hand out goodies to you. :oh Maybe in the sequel there will be more interaction.

SE said they'll only release bravely Default 2 if it sells well in the US, especially since sales were horrible in Europe. So far:

137,668 sales in the first week in the US (in Japan it was 143k) vs the Europe 35,610. So far it's looking really good in terms of a sequel in the future :)

Just finished FFX. Well, actually just beat braska's aeon and yu yevon. It was a bit of a letdown though, I got some of the celestial weapons (via cheating as I said earlier) and ultimately beating the guy was too easy. Should have beat him with a weaker party, it would have been more fun to do it. I thought I might give the superbosses a try but I just can't bring myself to do it. It seems like the minimum requirement to beat them is maxed stats which seems to much of a hasle. It would actually be faster to zanmato the lot of them (which I did with valeford lol). Anyways, fun is overall not fun enough to justify a second run. Blitball sucks, I didn't even try to get wakka's weapon.

Now I am trying to get my hands on FFXII. Lets see how my good old integrated graphics handle that one lol. FFX ran almost perfectly most of the time, I can do with the game just playing adequately....

Apparently Nintendo isn't liked very much in Europe from what a lot of ppl are saying on other gaming forums.

Really? Didn't know that. I've always thought it was just because RPGs came much later to Europe than US and that's why JRPGs are usually more popular. Or the fact that "few" countries speak English, making sales naturally lower than in the US.

Any reason for the dislikes?

Okay let's stop here. This discussion will lead to nothing and I won't try to discuss such "arguments".

It is a world of magic so I really can't understand how there is a problem with the existence of a city that was created thanks to a dream. It's not like there are two worlds. It is just a fake city. Sin is not a dream, it is an Aeon-like monster created by Yu Yevon.
I still don't get what you're trying to teach me about the story, when I know what Sin and Yu Yevon are. Perhaps you should reread my posts again.

In terms of gameplay, FFXII was really great but the characters are all completely boring... :(

Anyway I played Lightning Returns for a while and for some reason I really like it. I even have the urge to play its prequels again. the battle system makes me want to throw my gamepad against a wall though...

I am really enjoying the game right now, my only beef with it being the controls. You really use everything in the controller so setting up the thing on a keyboard is actually a tad complicated. I have set something up which is almost comfortable however it is still not quite there yet. I have the entire left side of my keyboard occupied and it is really easy to mess up the bottoms. I should get a gamepad... Not sure on where they would even sell one though (I am not in the US).... Gameplay seems awesome but I just can't actually get the full deal with a keyboard. Its completely different from the other FFs where I needed pretty much the same configuration for everything.

Yeah..not sure how you're gonna have fun playing this with the keyboard lol. I myself prefer keyboard over gamepad, but this game needs a gamepad to play properly.

Though a lot of people don't like XII, I find it to be one of the better and enjoyable ones. There's just so much to do and it takes so much time.

XII's environments were extremely boring. Felt like one area was copy pasted with little alterations. Its MMORPG feel just felt distasteful. Most of the cast, save for Baltheir, Vaan - a great third person narrator - were all garbage as far as the main cast went. I couldn't stand Ashe and Fran along with Penelo were such pointless additions. The only decent, in fact, a great character was Gabranth - that guy literally shouldered the entire sub-par story. Larsa was also excellent and should have been the one of the leads in place of the utterly useless and pathetic female cast. Vayne didn't disappoint either.

I hated the ending - in my personal view, Ashe was the villain of the story as she carried on the tradition of the Ocuria by defeating Vayne. However, what I liked about the story is that, at least, it made sense, unlike FFX which was a whole lot of nothing. That was indeed a plus point in my book.

Please use a spoiler tag. Especially when someone tells you that he just started the game.
I still don't see how the story of FFX is a bunch of nothing. You just rant but you didn't explain it properly. Everything makes sense in my book.

I wouldn't say X's story was a bunch of nothing, it just wasn't interesting...honestly 12's story wasn't either. I enjoy XII a lot simply because it has so much to do and a lot of secrets, which is something all recent RPGs lack..proper secrets and extras.

Completely my mistake. Already posted my grievances about X. In fact, I explained them as to the point as possible. If it makes sense to you then good for you.

Yeah it was a great RPG, in terms of gameplay. The gambit system, the license board, so many side quests, epic addional boss fights... But the story... <.< I still would play a FF XII HD remaster.
