I am pretty sure that 4 (or more) guys on a road trip is literally every final fantasy game ever. I can tolerate the bad story if the game is fun to be honest. As long as I can skip cutscenes so I don't have to tolerate the story. I haven't really read much about the combat system but I am willing to be open minded about it. I do have to say though, the character's names are objectively stupid.I wouldn't take his appraisal too seriously. Conan isn't a real videogame reviewer. Which is what makes seeing him react to something as absurd as Final Fantasy so hilarious.
-------------------------------------------------------
As Shadan cited earlier there is a lot of preview coverage for Final Fantasy XV out there now. Most videogame podcasts have had people on discussing at least their impressions of the first 15 hours. And it sounds like it's pretty much what people think it is. For better or worse.
Expansive open world. Arcade-y action combat. Impressive environmental design. Character design that appeals to some and repulses others.
Even this close to release I'm honestly not sure if I'll pick it up or not. I'm leaning not because there is a lot about it that I'm not into. The whole 4 guys on road trip thing just doesn't appeal to me. The combat system doesn't appeal either.
The only thing that could bring me in at this point is word that the story is really really good from a reviewer I trust. Or some unexpected elements. Like if there turns out to be really good love story in there somewhere. Or as the game progresses if Noctis and pals turn into something that appeals to me more. But all indications so far are that it's more or less what it's advertised to be and that's not something I'm interested in.

I guess the road trip could conceivably work. If the dialogue is top notch and the characters are not assholes. However if we consider FFXIII we'd need hell to unfreeze for that to be the case (2016 convinced me hell is currently frozen). On the other hand if you have poor dialogue and on top of that a herd worth of leader then you might as well end every single sentence in that thing with #nohomo (or #allofthehomo, I don't know their deal). I wouldn't mind a kingdom hearts type of combat but the teleporting sounds weird.....Not like this.
I mean, supposedly there is no fast travel(at least early on) and for the first while you can't drive the car. Which is intentional. They want you to feel like your on a road trip. Just four dudes wearing a whole lot of black leather sitting in the car looking out the window and chatting it up while you are driven to where your going. Then you have to rest and eat to level up and avoid status aliments(Hunger/Fatigue). So they are going for a lot of immersion elements relating to the road trip thing. That's something I don't think any other game has done but whether that's a good or bad thing is yet to be determined.
The combat system, as the previews tell it, is basically about about weapon switching and teleporting. And plays somewhere between Kingdom Hearts and DMC. With a few elements like combo attacks with party members and consumables thrown in there. Magic has also been reduced to a kind of consumable with a kind of crafting element to it. Nobody that I heard talking about it had any concreate conclusions on that stuff yet but it doesn't really sound like my cup of tea.
I find it really interesting just as a curiosity more than an actual game. Like I have no real desire to play the game but I'm very interested in how the game turns out.Final Fantasy XV Teases An “Astral-nomic” Surprise In Hollywood For The Game’s Launch
At this point, I'm more amazed by all the publicity this game is getting rather than what I've seen of the game itself. I too would've been excited if it weren't for my bad history with S-E that makes me very skeptical and hesitant to get it.
Yeah, that's when the review outlets that got early copies directly from square enix are going to release their reviews. Kotaku, IGN, Gamespot. Those guys.Final Fantasy XV reviews embargo will lift on November 28 at 7 AM PT/ 10 AM ET:

I find them very useful but what value you place on them is up to you.Professional reviews won't give you an idea of the story either. It's not like they have a background in literary criticism. Their opinions always appear to be worthless to me.

I find reviews useful for deciding out whether a game is worth taking a closer look it. So I give some merit to both the criticisms and the information. What I've always found though is that what really matters are finding reviewers with similar tastes to mine.http://gadgets.ndtv.com/games/reviews/final-fantasy-xv-review-1630801?site=classic
First review is out. Not a big reviewing site, but it's a review nonetheless.
Score: 8/10
Pros:
Cons:
- Great combat
- Strong characters
- Flexible progression
I am not going to take the argument on the story seriously, but the rest of the review was solid.
- Vague story
- Unremarkable music

Gaffers run on outrage agenda and what not. They have no background in analyzing the plot or literary criticism. All I have read from there are stupendously idiotic phrases like "hot mess." If that doesn't raise red flags about their credibility in offering criticism, then I don't know what does. Their opinions are as pointless as anyone else's. In fact, I put them below YouTubers in the dreaded internet tier of "where opinions matter." It's always better to form one's own opinion by gleaning information from various sources. Like for me IGN's Vince Ingenito carries a lot of weight. I respect his opinion on games a great deal but some of their other reviewers not nearly as much. Same applies to youtubers and such. Like Angry Joe and Colin Moriarty are two critics whose opinions I personally always want to hear.
Stuff like the Metacritic score is interesting too but only as a curiosity.
---------------------
That review itself sounds fairly close to what I was reading on Neogaff, the review was maybe a little more positive in some ways. The music criticism is new, but the rest I've heard people talk about.
That's one of the reasons I want to hear somebody like Vince Ingenito break down stuff like the plot. I mean, the things I've heard about the story on Neogaff aren't great. But they aren't simple either. They are kind of unusual issues, so I'm very curious what someone with a lot of experience reviewing RPG stoylines has to say about it.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-11-28-final-fantasy-15-reviewCertainly as an opener, Final Fantasy XV is ticking all the right buttons, boasting production values that put many other AAA releases to shame, while being unafraid to break from the restrictions that JRPG convention dictates. Of course, that’s a double-edged sword, and long-time fans of the series may feel that this is a step too far away from the well-loved turn-based combat that is Final Fantasy for many. Personally, this is a world crying out to be explored, and one that brings the series phenomenal CG cutscenes and fantastical gameplay closer than ever before.
LOW SCORE(S):This troubled history is one of the reasons Final Fantasy 15 is so difficult to pin down. For a series universally known and loved for its emphasis on storytelling, can I recommend a Final Fantasy game despite its unsatisfying story? Instinctively I'd say no, but even as someone who prized the narratives of previous games I still found myself going back to 15's early stages to seek out new challenges after I'd concluded the main campaign.
And it's clear that Final Fantasy 15 benefits from a vision, one that emboldened its developers to try new things and reinvent a series while reclaiming the scale that its most ardent fans are used to. In chasing that scale the bigger picture can sometimes get a little obscured, but importantly Final Fantasy 15 retains that love of smaller stories, the ones that often prove to be so much more memorable.
They are people with game impressions. Obviously you take them with grains of salt but frankly anyone is entitled to their opinion and a lot can be learned from listening to peoples opinions. What makes a reviewer special is that they are able to explain their opinion better. The REVIEWS are rolling in. I will just keep on editing this post to inform those interested in reading more opinions. The Embargo has lifted, hence, expect more reviews in the coming hours.

Playing games or JRPGs doesn't make people an expert in analyzing stories. Both of these things are not even remotely analogous to one another. It's best that you should play this yourself. Unless you have inhibitions about buying this, then that is another story.
