So in case anybody out there was expecting to see see Final Fantasy VII Remake or Kingdom Hearts this decade. Prepare for disappointment. I guess on their financials the president of Square Enix said, and this is a quote,...
"we plan to launch each of these upcoming titles in the next three years or so."
Oh Square Enix, you guys are the best.

Now I guess they are shifting development of Final Fantasy VII's Remake from externally developed to internally developed and are giving the project lead job to Naoki Hamaguchi who was the project lead for Mobius Final Fantasy and the main programmer for Lightning Returns.
Seems like an interesting choice.
That game is so far off though. At this point fiscal year 2020 seems optimistic.
I am also really enjoying this game so far. I have put a lot of time into it and to my surprise I found that I really enjoy the fighting system (I had my doubts based on a crappy demo I played).
I wouldn't be surprised if FFVII took as long as that last turd they made. It isn't like they're creating an open world, ultra advanced simulator. This game is their most popular. They should wisen up and put everything and everyone they have on the project.
If the rumors that the game will release in "episodes" is true, then we might see Episode I somewhere around the end of 2019 or early 2020. It'll be about 4 hours long I bet @ $69.99 with every episode costing the same price.
Also, it is very clear FFXV is the new FFXIII/FFVII with all of these super unnecessary titles. We have like what now...eight different games tied to FFXV? Maybe take some people off that damn team and throw 'em onto the FFVII remake, earn a shit ton of money (and I mean a SHIT TON) and then think about pooping out more FFXV games.
Oh and uh...anyone here play World of Final Fantasy? It is coming to Steam Nov. 21st and just wanted to know what y'all might think about it.
EDIT
Wow. Final Fantasy Dimensions II was released globally quietly a few days ago. It has gone B2P, removing all online features due to difficulty at maintaining it. That means everything is grind-related and not Randomly obtained with purchases. The price is $14.99.
It sucks we finally get it the day they close it down. Thanks for nothing! No special events, which means no special summons like Cloud, Terra, Squall etc etc. So lame.
I haven't played FFXV or any of the "episodes". Or the VR fishing game. Or any of that, because I'm just not into it, but I assume what they are doing with those is trying to recoop as much of the cost of FFXV as they can. And the marketing campaign which had to be astronomically expensive (the adds, the movie, the anime, the huge release date event). They're probably using small teams and mostly already made assets so it seems like a reasonable way to make back some more money to me.
According to Tabata back in September the total sales for FFXV was 6.5 million units sold. Which means they sold around 500,000 in the last 8 months.
Which is pretty decent. And that's probably in large part because all of these things they're releasing reminds people that it exists. Which pretty important with the PC release coming. A great PC release could potentially get them the sales boost they need to at least get to where FFXIII was in terms of sales.
FFXIII sold like 700k on steam. I'd have to think XV would move at least a million. If a decent modding community gets going and starts generating fun stuff I could definitely imagine it getting pretty big on there.

The nude mods will come first and that'll draw in a lot of people. 4k nude Noctis inbound.
There's absolutely no reason to buy it on PS4 now, especially given how terrible it runs on the console. Better graphics, mods, ansel support, online capabilities (no PS sub required!) and potentially "more" is a pretty good deal, at least for those who haven't bought the game yet.
Welp, got me ffxv. My laptop can barely play the thing but overall it has been a smooth experience so far. Although for some reason my laptop can't rend hair properly. At times the guy with the mullet looks like he has dots over his face rather than a beard. Don't care though, I am just happy to be able to play the game at all. I do have to point out the main casts looks like they stole their clothes from lesbian bikers though.

Finally done with FFXV. Overall it was a fun game. Gameplay was not quite as fun as previous FF games, if anything this is the easiest FF I have played so far, but as a whole the game works. Compared to FFXIII for instance, FFXIII had IMO superior gameplay but overall its inherently stupid story and characters dragged the whole thing through the mud. At first I was a tad scared on that front in regards to FFXV because the first thing I thought when I saw the cast in game was "why is every character cosplaying as a lesbian biker Is every character going to be as dumb as snow?". I was surprised that in spite of their somewhat ridiculous appearances most characters turned out to be mostly likeable.
On the downside, there is the simple fact that so much stuff happens which I simply couldn't be bothered to care about. Lunafreya was built for 20 hours through way too sporadic flashbacks and in the end she dies without ever so much as talking to noctis... So when she died my reaction was "fuck you freya, I was never given a reason to feel anything for your overdone death". And seriously, she was dying from her oracle role, was stabbed by ardin anyways and even if he hadn't she would have drowned. Why not have a meteorite fall on her for literally no reason while she is drowning? As in, while she is drowining after being stabbed and was dying from oracleitis anyways the 1 in 1 billion chance of being hit by a meteorite happens.
Other important stuff which the story never did? Luna's brother. Why was this guy even important? I honestly can't remember.
And then, iris. I actually enjoyed the part of the story about her. And she doesn't even get a mention toward the end. The only thing I could do was give luna a picture of her at the end. Which I assume the entirety of the internet had already done anyways.
Another disappointment in the story for me: World of ruin. I was like "YES! LETS EXPLORE THE SHIT OUT OF THIS BITC oh wtf it's over?". You'd think having an entire continent gone to shit would allow you a minute to explore it.
Still, the game overall works. The main issue with the game is not quite what it did but rather what it didn't do storywise. The story feels rushed and incomplete for the most part. The leviathan battle was great, meeting ardin was fun.... Exploring the world was awesome. My only regret is that I didn't know the sidequests were meant to take you to the royal arms. I found at least four of them by basically looking at the map and going to places I hadn't been to before. And of course, I ended up going everywhere twice... Including the mountain which I climbed only because I could.
That's a shame. I briefly considered picking it up but then... I saw Noctis again. Which made me asked myself do I really want to play a game with Sasuke as the protagonist? The answer to that question is still no.
Doesn't look like it's selling great on steam so far either. According to steamspy it's only moved about 300k. Which is decent for a JRPG on steam but to put that in perspective FFXIII moved about 750k. And with a package of it and all the DLC for $50 I thought it would do much better than FFXIII.

IIRC, the game was supposed to show more of Luna's past so you can see how resilient she is, but the game developers thought that some people would be upset about it. In one deleted scene, you see her getting physically abused by some of the empire's soldiers. I read an article about it long ago, but I can't find it now. >.>

Yeah, the game was rushed at the end. Nomura couldn't be there to oversee the game so they handed it to someone else. That's why there are some fans who wonder what it could have been like if Nomura was able to show his vision (FFXIII Versus).
Oh, I don't know if anyone has read this, but there will be more DLCs. Episode Ardyn looks the most interesting imo.
I enjoyed the game. The complaints about the story still ring hollow to me, especially if you consider the horrendous stories of previous FF games. The game-play is way better than anything FF has managed in years. The game was never about Luna's character to begin with, so I don't see where these complaints even come from. I mean, you've got people with their 'dispositional emotional states' concerning certain manga characters (and lack of fan-service), so I always take few critiques with a fistful of salt.
My only gripe with the story is the heavy leaning towards the silly Western 'Higher Emotions.' It would've been far better had the ending gone down the route of that one trailer where Noctis goes for a more self-centered approach to become a King. It would've been a refreshing change in FFs usually kiddy topics and kiddy emotions. Shame.
Furthermore, Nomura is a terrible director in regards to game development constraints. He was obviously removed for a reason as his track-record suggests. I'm glad that the game was, at least, pushed out of the door.

That's crazy, why would they think viewers would be upset at a character getting development? And what we got instead was... The scene you mention is in the game but IIRC that is one of the scenes that build up to luna's overkill. Because it is also the scene that makes the point that her body is failing her. Right before she gets stabbed but dies before the stab kills her because of a tidal wave.
I actually didn't play the DLCs so far. I completed everything in the main game and thought... enough.

That's quite correct. Though FF fans whine a lot, so I'm not surprised that they removed it.
I believe they've released a full game-version with all of the DLCs? Or am I mistaken? I'll double-check and will post it here.
Story wise my main gripe with the game would be that it doesn't have FF's usual "anti establishment" or anti status quo elements. In here noctis is royalty, he is the chosen king and until his father is killed everything is beyond peachy. To add to that, even the asthrals are beyond reproach...

You can see that the development team wanted to take risks, but FFs audience is quite immature and too embroiled in 'outrage agendas.' In fact, I thought this to be a breath of fresh air that it doesn't have the 'anti' elements FFs have.

You do realize your a final fantasy fan right? You should maybe be a bit more careful in painting things with a broad brush and dismissing the views of others.
