The playing outside thing is just them being goofy. That's just the visual hyperbole that everybody advertising a handheld shows. In reality people play handhelds inside most of the time. Whether that's during a commute or while somebody is using their tv. But it looks neat so they show it.

As for why Nintendo thinks people want this because I honestly think they do. Look I don't know if this is going to be a success or failure but the one thing I can tell you with certainty is that many people I know want to play Nintendo games. The problem for the last few generations is that the hardware they made you play it on wasn't good. The Wii wasn't even HD. The Wii U was too expensive for what it offered. And the 3DS was built around 3D functionality nobody liked. This is the first thing they've released in a long time that seems like it could have a place in the gaming ecosystem.

At $300, as a mobile gaming option, I would consider buying one as games I wanted to play started coming out. And I could never say that for the Wii U.

Now I agree with you Nintendo should pull a Sega and turn third party. That would fix everything so we could be playing Nintendo games on PS4 and Xbox but Nintendo is a very stubborn company. So they won't do that until they have absolutely no choice.

And I fully admit that bad news is coming about this thing. Not sure if it's price, power, or battery life. But something there is going to be a problem. I hope I'm wrong and that they managed to strike the perfect balance but... nobody else has managed that yet.

And honestly, if something has to be underwhelming I hope it's power. Battery life and Price are more important IMO.

I thought of that at first but.... That is the only thing they showed off (other than what seems like an otherwise perfect zelda game). They went with that because that is what the console is actually about. There is nothing else to show off. Gameplay wise it offers a few uninteresting gimmicks (the "joy-cons". Indeed they are conning you into thinking this is fun). If anything they are worst than the tablet controller. Graphic wise we know it can't be great. This I would argue is not quite important overall however only if it has other cool gimmicks to make up for it. Which it does not. It's not even showing off how fun it is to play, it is only showing off all the places you can play it at (which they did by showing an asshole taking the thing to a barbecue or something).

To be fair, people actually bought the wii. It vastly outsold it's competition. It did not cater much to hardocore gamers but it did sell well thanks to it being genuinely fun and nintendo's core titles being awesome. The wii U added a tablet controller which ultimately did not pan out. And instead of thinking the tablet controller probably is not the best idea to begin with they double down on it.

I am not suggesting nintendo pulls a sega though. It's not impossible for them to make a console people want. They just have to gather everyone in their marketing department and pull their heads out of their asses so that they can see as they are thrown into a hyena pit so that nintendo can start over.

I am not sure that perfect balance is possible to be honest. The old consoles had to balance out cost with the new hardware gimmicks they had along with graphics.... Now they have that plus a few other things, the worst offender of all being battery life.

Anybody else playing the Skyrim remaster?

I'm kind of shocked by how good it is. It's a game a played a ton but it's been a few years and you forget how fundamentally great a game it really was. All they did was tweak some textures and lighting but underneath that the vanilla game is so fun that it's a blast to revisit.

Especially now that everybody can get the unofficial patch and the various other mods for it. The script mods aren't up and running yet but when they start working this is going to be even more of a good time to replay.

Yeah, from what I've heard till now, it's amazing :). There's no harmful bugs in it too, considering how many games recently have been having harmful bugs or glitches in their release.

I'll be buying it soon too, will certainly be nostalgic haha.

If you happen to own Skyrim and all it's expansions on steam you get the upgrade it for free. That's how I got it.

Bethesda didn't fix a thing from the original game but the unofficial patch mod thankfully takes care of most everything else. All that remains are the hilarious bugs like when you get killed and your body flies like 200 ft into the air.:XD

So there's some rumors of a smash game coming out on the switch. Well my thoughts are:
  • Make this one less noob friendly. I'm tired of outplaying people for an entire match but end up losing to clutch jank attacks pulled straight from the ass. The rage mechanic unfairly rewards losing and encourages easy comebacks.
  • Make player names visible in saved replays so we can name and shame.
  • Make character match ups more even because as it stands, some match ups are literally unwinnable for some characters. For example, Rosalina completely invalidates most projectile characters. Players should be able to play any character they want and have an equal chance of winning as the other character.
If they're bringing back all the characters, they should also:
  • Nerf Rosalina and Luma. As a Link main, her existence offends me.
  • Nerf Yoshi. Yoshi carries unskilled players way too much. They don't block and they don't even think. They just mash to win. Yoshi takes no skill whatsoever. Simply taking away his eggs would probably make him a lot less obnoxious to fight. He'd still have his ridiculous frame data and invincibility on his moves anyway.
  • Buff LIl Mac's recovery and air mobility but take away the invincibility on his smash attacks or make them less safe. His recovery is easily expoloitable but dealing with him on stage is a bitch, so I think a little rebalancing of his strengths and weaknesses would be good.
Overall I want the new smash to be more like melee where it was more technical and players relied on skill to win.

So I've been playing Skyrim: SE on the PS4 for the last week and while they didn't actually fix, well... anything, the updated graphics were nice and not even less than I was expecting. It's also given me the chance to play through those DLC I never ended up getting in the OG Game. Still, not too many game breaking glitches, at least, less than the original. I also think that even without the VGR's and Depth Mapping updates the Special Edition's best improvements are the introduction of mods to consoles and the vastly reduced loading times. That last point may well have kept me playing it for this long already.

Yeah, the load times are nice. I'm playing on PC and have a solid state hard drive. So load times are almost non-existant.

Right now the mods I'm using are.
- Achievements with Mods Reinabled
(So I get achievements while playing with mods. Which I think is only fair since I don't use anything that gives me any advantages.)
- Unofficial Skyrim patch
(A must have on any playtform. Fixes tons of stuff Bethesda was too lazy to fix themselves.)
- Cutting Room Floor
(A patch that restores content that was on the disc but was not implemented in the game. Like a whole lot of college of winterhold repeatable quests and random events. Stuff like that.)
- Relationship Dialogue Overhaul
(Uses vanilla assets to change it so the way the various NPC talk to you is more reactive to their relationship with the main character.)
- Ars Metalica
(Smithing Enhancement mod. Makes a bunch of stuff smithable that should have been in the base game. Like Arrows and Faction Armor. That type of thing.)

So basically all stuff the compliments the base game. Which is even more fun that I remembered. I'm playing pure mage on Master difficulty and having a blast. Using a lot more Conjuration, Restoration, and Illusion that have previously. I used to just fall into the Destruction for damage and Alteration for armor buffs and paralysis magic but I'm finding this much more fun.

Yes I'm not using any game altering mods aside from some Player Homes and Fortified cities modifications. I also have the USP, the Dialogue Overhaul, Immersive Characters and Lanterns of Skyrim.

Playing Skyrim and seeing how fun it still is got me wanted to revisit some RPGs from a few years ago on my new PC to see how well they lived up to my memories of them.

So I started up Dragon Age Inquisition on PC(since I never played any of the DLC). And, man, had I forgotten how much Bioware F'd up the combat and leveling system in that game. Like at the time I thought it was ok but like... wow. It's kind of shocking.

Is it worse that Dragon Age 2? How did I not realize this?

It might be that classic bias. You know, seeing a game of the past so fondly that you actually see it as being much better than it was

Maybe... but other parts of the game hold up well. Like the armor and weapon crafting stuff. And the visuals are pretty good too.

The combat though...woof.

Have you played through the Dragon Age games? The basic crux of the problem I'm noticing is this.

In Dragon Age: Origins there were 5 skill trees but each 4 sub trees with 4 skills levels so that made 16 skill options per tree. On top of that there were 6 specializations of which you could pick 2. So tons of variety on how you play any class.

In Dragon Age II there were 6 skill trees for each class with about 5-6 skill options in each tree with few but powerful passives then 3 specializations trees of which you could pick 2. So less variety than origins but still a fair bit.

In Dragon Age: Inquisition there are 4 skill trees with around 12 skills in each most of which are passives with minimal effect. Then there are 3 specializations of which you can pick only 1. Resulting in fairly limited build varieties compared to the previous two games.

---------

Considering the far more restrictive leveling system you'd think that would mean better balancing right? But it's not balanced at all. Like Knight Enchanters are over powered to a crazy degree. Assassin's are about 10x better than the other 3 rogue specializations but only as an archer because any close range rogue build is nearly useless because their just aren't any rogue skills that help survivablity much.

Large parts of this combat system are just plain broken.

In order for it the balancing to hold together you have to play it in very specific ways. If your a warrior, you have to be tank. If your a rogue, you have to be DPS. The game punishes doing any type of hybrid class. Except Knight Enchanter who walks over everything completely unopposed.

So it was a poorly thought out and improvised system that wasn't scrutinized alongside the previous games before it's release?

Has anyone here tried playing Persona 5? I was waiting for the English release on February, but then I heard it got delayed to April so they could add the Japanese dub as free DLC.

I was considering to import it, but decided against it since I thought there wouldn't be any delay after 67x delay announcements, then this happened. I saw tiny bits of gameplay vids here and there, many people seem to love it. It looks really amazing on HD.

Lots of great videogame news coming out this weekend.

Last of Us Part 2
Patapon & Crash Remasters
Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries (the franchise isn't dead!)

Along with new English trailers for Ni No Kuni 2 and Persona 5. Both of which look so freaking good!

Crash Come Back. Published yesterday

Oh my god, I might literally die from nostalgia.

I was addicted to Crash Bandicoot as a child. It was one of the first games I ever played, and so this news brings back all kinds of memories and feels.

Crash, Spyro, Croc, Tekken and Bloody Roar all made my childhood gaming experience.
