Personally, Full Drive's trajectory based on these two chapters is rather worrying. Its almost a full copy of Prince of Tennis' first chapters. While there are clear differences like PoT's hazing incident, Setagaya being this specialized academy, the overall progression is very similar. The problem is however, that it ends up feeling like a watered down PoT. There's nothing wrong with having a similar progression as this is Jump but feeling like a watered down version is very detrimental for staying in the magazine as people will quickly lose interest. The MC also needs more characterization which I hope will be done in the seemingly upcoming match with the upperclassman. If this continues, I predict that the MC will cause a big uproar or sorts in the academy and will eventually take part in some event to select players for some upcoming tournament and will probably be chosen as a regular. I hope this is not the route the story takes. There however seems to be an Olympics end stage with the mention of China so the story might cover more than one year at least. Does anyone know what Ono Genki's favourite manga are as listed in those small introductions? Either he's subconsiously following the PoT route or both him and the editor decided that "since this is a "hot-blooded" table tennis manga, let's follow Prince of Tennis". They may be going for that crowd though that crowd or a similar crowd though PoT's crowd has already grown up.
Also this may be the translation but the dialogue really didn't flow too well for me. There is also a huge amount of white background. Both color pages were also basically just the characters doing some poses, besides the intro pages for the first chapter. I wonder if this is this artist's style. The line width is also rather thin so it almost seems faded. This will be good for matches
