Kimetsu cover yet again. I mean, I love the manga and all but I really wanted Yunna, Act-Age or Jujutsu since they only have one (worse for yunna, which has half as it divided with WNL)

Damn, the discussion on TPN went wild. I came back to the thread to find 5-6 pages of new content :twitch
Kina makes me remember TOC days in the WSJ thread back when the TOC wasn't pinned to the top of the page.

Around 3k sales for Tokyo Shinobi, yikes.

Kamio Yui around 5-6k, similiar to Vol 1. No progress there.

I don't know what's more depressing, that TSS did so poorly even with the Nightow rec, or that it's done far and away the "best" of the three newbies.

From another perspective, how on earth terrible manga from wsj can still sell that much.
Hell, 5k for first volume is considered acceptable in other acclaimed magazines.
Iirc, blue period, a fucking great manga, was selling around that amount till it got the boost from award nomination.

So, do you guys think they'll axe TSS with Taisei or Beast or wait a bit longer?

Jujutsu and Act Age will have their covers when their anime is announced.
This is too late given their good popularity, generally they would give a cover before their first year anniversary, which I think didn't happen for Act-Age.

I wonder guys after all that tall about sales., how do authors get their salaries devived?. I mean as oda, he is swimming in money. But for someone like yuuna, he must getting average?. How much do newby authors gets when their manga are axed

I think TSS can stick longer since there is no reason to axed it from so many free spots cuz beast and taisei are guarenteed axed. Also next batch begins till December so no reason to rush things in jump schedule

People don't understand that we want to see our lovely Yonagi in the cover as soon as possible. XD
The anniversary one was pretty lackluster because of her short hair. =/

The information I know about mangaka payments is from Bakuman so maybe inaccurate, but according to it they are paid by page drawn.
And of course, after they get famous there is the royalties thing, etc.

Two words. Hiroshi Shiibashi. And even with that, it's significantly down even from Illegal Rare sales.

Blue Period is in a monthly seinen magazine (2 major differences compared to Yui), so it's not comparable.

Bits and pieces of info I’ve heard over the years, others probably know more:

I’m pretty sure it’s been mentioned that 100k in print per year (across all volumes) is about equal to the average salary man’s wage. So stuff like Yuuna, and even HZ are quite a bit beyond that, releasing at least 4 volumes per year, and even HZ at the end was probably getting at least 50k in print each volume. But taking into account assistant costs, material costs, and in many cases studio costs once a series is established, the lower sellers probably aren’t too well off. They do also get paid per page drawn each week, and I believe that scales with popularity. Not to mention merchandise royalties if their series has any of that.

I know in the case of other magazines that if a series is a low seller but performs well in rankings, so its allowed to continue, it’s not uncommon for the mangaka to be in the red with effectively no way out.

Also pretty sure Jump has a system in place to financially support mangaka who aren’t serialised, hence why we can get authors that can have 5 years between failed series and make the best part of nothing in 10 years. Obviously it wouldn’t be a lot, and most of those without any success would probably need some other form of income. Unsure of the criteria that makes them eligible for support, but I’m sure someone else knows more about it.

Axe all to be honest. I have no current signs, either from TOC placements or the sales that Jump exactly needs this to survive.

I remember @tirakai has said that Jump shouldn't go for big rounds, but in this case, I think it's needed in this awful Taisei-TSS-Beast round. If they need a meh to poor seller around, Yui is the one to go for.

I'm guessing that Kamio Yui will be axed with Taisei and Beast Children, and TSS will stick around for one more serialization round before getting axed.

Shiibashi is this really weird case of an author who was able to find success in the 2000s for a brief period of time only to fall off completely as times changed and he didn't. I'll admit I've only read some of Nura, but it comes off to me as very much junk food, with a very shaky narrative and one-note cast, and reading Yui says to me an utter refusal to change or improve as a creator.

I think a lot of people forget that Jump is very different in structure business-wise compared to the rest of the industry, since every series that launches in it gets it's fair share of media coverage. Where series in other publications start at the bottom and work their way up, Jump is more like natural selection, everything is at the "top", it's just the best/most acclaimed/most popular series are the ones which stick.

Axe all to be honest. I have no current signs, either from TOC placements or the sales that Jump exactly needs this to survive.

The TBS Trio is truly impressive in how much it's failed.

I have all volumes of NuraMago and I disagree. It is not the best manga you've ever seen, but none of them are, he was very good, principally from the middle towards the end. I think Shiibashi needs a little more time to build his story and I think he would be better off going to another magazine who gives more liberty.
