With a mysterious unexplained determination, Togashi proved his manliness to get pass Dokugantetsu and continue on through the Chinju Corridor. But why is he so determined to get through...and what other traps await the first-years?

Chp. 46: Henshouki’s Sacrifice

178.
Togashi: Ryaa---!!
Toramaru: It’s over: that’s Togashi’s Spinning-Air Double Kick--!!
(TN: “Chuukai Nidankeri” = “Spinning-Air Double Kick”)

179.
Dokugantetsu: Fufufu, well fine. You are correct. You’ve truly are as the head called you for.
Togashi: Well fine—so what does that mean? Whatever it is, I have many more answers for you.
Dokugantetsu: Fuffufu, until we meet again, the answer is entrusted with your life.

180.
Toramaru: Aa—h.
Dokugantetsu: Now pass.
Togashi: ………………
Dokugantetsu: The next room of the Chinju Corridor is waiting for you.
Toramaru: Hey, this is good service. I think we can cross over with a handstand too.

181.
Toramaru: Just as we expected, Togashi. Heh, you can’t even fart with what you’ve done.
Momotarou: It’s fine if you tell us already. The head of the Third-Years……………………what’s between you and him?
Togashi: Stay out of this. None of you are related to this. He’s a problem for me alone.
Toramaru: Well isn’t that great? If we escape from the Chinju Corridor and meet this head, we’ll know everything. Well then why don’t we settle with the next room?
Togashi: ……………………
Toramaru: Now let’s go---!!

182.
First-Years: ………………!?
Toramaru: What is this? We could think of whatever trick they’re using again, but there’s nothing unusual about it at all. Isn’t this an ordinary corridor?
J: I’ll look to see what it is.
Toramaru: Ho…hold on, J, now it’s my turn…
J: !!

183.
Toramaru: J--!!
Toramaru: What is this………!!
J: Fufufu, that iron grill is so that my allies can’t help me. You’re really making fun of me too.
J: !?

184.
J: ………………………!!
Toramaru: What’s wrong, J--!!
“Voice”: Fufufu, you can’t move. What’s hardening around your feet is quick-drying concrete. Regardless of how much you get out, it’s useless.

185.
Henshouki: MY NAME IS HENSHOUKI: THE GUARDIAN OF THE SUIYOU ROOM OF THE CHINJU CORRIDOR.
(TN: “Suiyou Room” or “Suiyoubou” = “Hanging Melting Room”)
Toramaru: Wh…what………
Henshouki: It’s best you look above your head.
J: !!

186.
J: ………………!!
Henshouki: There is concentrated sulfuric acid filled within that tank.
Toramaru: Wha……!!
Henshouki: That is the power of sulfuric acid. If it reaches you, you will melt away, not even leaving bone.

187.
Henshouki: Further, that tank is being supported by one rope.
Henshouki: Do you understand: when the flame on the candle burns away the rope, the sulfuric acid overhead will pour down on you. There is only one way to save yourself: put out that flame from that distance.
Henshouki: Well, how will you do it? You don’t have time. Fuffufufu.
J: ………………!!

188.
Cloak: That man…his name is J. He’s come to Japan from America to be an overseas transfer student at Otokojuku……In the “Kyoura Daiyon Kyousatsu”, he fought in Shakumyakuiou-kan against Gougakuren’s Raiden; his fist known as the Mach Punch possesses considerable destructive power.
Third-Years: OSSU, PARDON US.

189.
Jaki: That’s Henshouki…………they don’t know that he’s different from Dokugantetsu.
Jaki: It would be good if he didn’t kill them when he forgets his original purpose………………

190.
Toramaru: What is he? That Henshouki is a bat guy hanging from the ceiling.
Togashi: How exactly can J put out the flame of that candle from that distance when he can’t move his body---!!
Henshouki: Fufufu, so you can’t do it?
Henshouki: WATCH THIS: TENBIN SHOUHA!!
(TN: “Tenbin Shouha” = “Nature Manipulation Wave”)
J: Haa!!

191.
J: UH!!
J: ……………….!!
Toramaru: J--!!

192.
J: What was that now…………I didn’t see a thing…Did he throw something………………!!
Momotarou: No, that now was Tenbin Shouha………!! He tore at J’s body with the spirit and wind pressure of his fist.
Toramaru: Wh…what………!?
Commentary:
Tenbin Shouha…The ultimate secret technique of Nanchou Temple’s physically taught fists, prided through the three-thousand year history of Chinese martial arts. Rin Shuumei, the ultimate fist warrior of the Ming Dynasty who mastered that technique, was said to originally have brought down a bird that was flying a hundred meters overhead with this together with his fighting spirit. Since then, it was commonly known as Rakuchouken. As a factor, Rin Shuumei was said to have also been the greatest chef of the era and the birds that were taken down with Tenbin Shouha were turned into good meat and the cuisine he made with this were prized as the ultimate palace cuisine. Even today, the greatest of bird meat has come to be called “Tenbin Meat”.
-From “Modern Knowledge Learned in Three-Thousand Years of Chinese History”, Minmei Publishing.
(TN: “Rakuchouken” = “Falling Bird Fist”)

193.
Henshouki: From what I’ve heard, you use a fist called the Mach Punch. If you’re for real, then you should be able to put out the flame on the candle with wind pressure.
Henshouki: Now show me. Time is running out.
J: Fu, understood, this seems interesting.
Toramaru: Heh, why is that bat man so proud? With J’s Mach Punch, he can do it before breakfast.
J: Let’s go!!

194.-195.
J: MACH PUNCH
Toramaru: N…no---!!
Togashi: The candle flame just flickered---!!
(End of Volume 5)

TN: It's sort of weird: J's Mach Punch has a name that makes it sound like it can blow as fast as sound just like the speed of his punches...but in reality, it only seems (so far) to be the speed of punches as opposed to releasing a pulse that could act similar to the Tenbin Shouha. Speaking of which...Henshouki is creepy and his means by which to challenge J by sealing his footwork forcing him to rely on his punches alone while he hangs from the ceiling like a bat...yeah, definitely shows the sadism that he holds and how much turmoil they want the First-Years to go through the Chinju Corridor. As for Togashi...it is hinted more and more about his and connection to Jaki, but the way that he acts about wanting to get through this alone...OK, I love Togashi's character but there definitely is something going on if he wants to face Jaki eventually without Momo and the others! (but first...J has to put out that candle so he doesn't melt away!)

BTW: I know I'm adding an edit now, but based on later chapters, Henshouki's main style actually is "Nanchouji Kyuutaiken", which literally translates into "Physically Taught Fist of Nanchou Temple"...I won't change it considering it was only used in the Minmei explanation in this chapter and I didn't realize that was Henshouki's fist-style name until looking it up for later on.
