Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

Recently got the jump sq issue which contains the final chapter, and it seems that each sq issue feature a comment from the mangakas. Id like to read yagis comments from all of the chapters but it would be impossible unless someone has access to each sq issue with claymore chapter in it :/
O_O I love author commentary. Feel inclined to copypasta that there comment into the translation thread so that we can see what he's got to say for himself?

Mind if I ask how you got it? I wasn’t sure if it was available on this half of the globe... ebay?

Well unfortunately no Claymore tattoo or anything for my race tomorrow. I was thinking at least putting one of the pendant or keyring symbols on my hydration pack but its getting to late and I have to get to bed. I probably wont do all that great anyhow, just going to target my pace I did the marathon last year since my training hasn’t been as much as I'd like. Heck there is even the chance I may have to walk part of it. :facepalm but I'll draw on every bit of yoki I can muster up without going over my limit to cross the line at 26.2 miles. :\m/

Sure, Try CDjapan.co.jp
The text is ' monthly, weekly, janpu sq to keisaishi wo kaenagara* mo kansoudekita kotoni kanshashimasu.' Looks like a thank you to the publication magazines but hopefully someone who knows japanese can provide better translation.

*knock knock* Hello?

If anyone is still here they should go vote for our homies who've been nominated for community awards. GEG the extremely deserving is up for Most High-Quality Poster as is Fate_Archer (and me too thanks Utsune I'm glad someone remembers the beauty contest) and Utsune and GEG likewise have both been nominated for Best Translator.

Anyone else here watched Sailor Moon, btw?

I'm kind of in love with the 90s anime right now and plan to watch Crystal when I'm done. I'm also reading the manga.

I guess I have a weakness for girls who slay yoma ^^

Yeah, the 90s anime was the thing that turned me onto anime, and eventually manga, so it holds a special place for me. It's just really fun at the end of the day, and I think the 90s anime in particular does a great job of character development. The music is also great!

Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

SO MUCH FUN!!! I'm finding the character development towards the end of S4 is beginning to lag a little. Minako, Rei, Usagi, Makoto, and Mamoru are all pretty much who they were at the start of the season, the only one who's really changing much at all is Chibiusa. Ami, though, has had some great eps. It's interesting: Mako-chan is my favourite but I generally find Ami's to be the most interesting. I guess I like Mako-chan because a thunder-wielding tank who cooks, sews, gardens, looks like a million bucks in a party dress, and wants to be a florist is pretty much the best thing ever but Ami is, to me at least, more relatable.

I don't really mind, though. Sailor Moon was never about the overall story, it's basically a vehicle for character-oriented humour. That said, the paradigm clash between the outer and inner senshi in S3 was actually really interesting. I know they come back in S5 and am really hoping it's done well.

And I do love the music ^^ Gomen ne sunao janakute. . .

Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

I'm really missing Claymore. I was searching ebay to find a good deal for the Claymore Memorabilia book and ended up buying one for $24. I also bought the Intimate Persona CD and the DS game along with it. I got a great deal on all of them, so I figured I should buy them now that Claymore is over.

Well, when I get it I will be sure to tell you about it. I just bought it recently and it may take up to three weeks to get to me. I wonder how hard it will be to play the DS game when it is in Japanese?

I debated getting the game since my son has a DS. But I read the reviews, there are even youtube videos of it and it seems really lame. Not much to it really. Still would be cool for the collection though. I tend to collect the stuff I would personally enjoy the most first, so it wasn't high on my list yet. The art book however is really nice! I was really debating getting the character CD as well and probably will... I hadn't got it yet since its in Japanese and based of the Japanese cast so all the voices would be unfamiliar to me. Though I have started re-watching the animé in Japanese but so far I'm not really impressed with the voice actresses in it. I think several of the characters are played better in the English version personally. After all it was based on a medieval European setting so English just seems to fit better IMO. Wish they did a character song edition in English! Which reminds me there is an English version of Danzai no Hana by Riyu Kosaka... can't find it on youtube but its included in the single CD which I got (not a fandub or anything like that)... maybe I should upload it. It obviously doesn't flow as nice, but its neat that she can sing in English also and it still sound great! In the meantime I did find an actual live performance of it which is really good...

I just love this song and Riyu Kosaka. :music :wub :\m/

You know I guess I went off on a tangent there. But hey it's the 'hang-out' thread so as long as its Claymore related right? lol.

FWIW I did find the English version of Danzai no Hana by Riyu Kosaka.

If you can stream in HD you can read the lyrics, otherwise here they are...

Interesting to note "Love+hate" appears on there though I'm not sure for what. Interesting reference to Roxanne by coincidence!

I suppose this is a fitting time... the end song of the animé... since the manga is now ended. I know we aren't all fans of the animé too. But no harm in spreading a little love for the animé too right? When I first watched it, I usually skipped the opening and closing song/credits and just watched the 22 or 23 minutes worth of animé then again fast forward to the next one. That first day I watched many episodes, perhaps close to half the series. But after that first day is when I paced myself watching just 1 or two at a time. Then I started listening to the opening and ending songs and realized I really liked them as compared to many animé songs I'm not too thrilled about. I really got used to hearing those flutes or whatever they are at the start of Danzai no Hana, as soon as I'd hear them I'd get a rush of sadness knowing the episode was over, but then about 35 seconds in she really pics up her intensity (sorry not sure what the proper musical term is) and the sadness would be replaced by feelings of strength, intensity, and desire for the upcoming adventure next time. I grew to really appreciate the song. The single disc includes 3 version of it (Japanese, English, and instrumental) and two versions of one other song which is good as well.

Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

Awesome :D Both awards thoroughly deserved ^_^

Now if MH's best translator would be so kind as to turn his consummate skill to the pages posted by Baguya I, for one, would be ever so grateful~!

And no one nominated me for Best Newcomer T_T I ran you a beauty contest, wrote you songs, and scanlated a whole bunch of stuff! What's a n00b gotta do to build some cred 'round here?

Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

I just found out that I won an award!? Not only was I nominated, but actually won also? This is insane! Well, thank you everyone for your support! I'm speechless!

Congrats to Utsune for Best Translator! Well deserved!

It still feels kind of weird that Claymore ended.
I wish Yagi sensei would do what Naruto is doing via a canon movie after a time skip! That may be asking too much, but I do hope for some extra scene chapters in the future.

@ Number A

Sorry you didn't get nominated.

But, on the Sailor Moon topic. If you think about think, the character archetypes actually overlap into Claymore characters.

In turns of characters personality, I would say...

- Sailor Moon - Yuma
- Sailor Mercury - Cynthia
- Sailor Mars - Miria
- Sailor Jupiter - Helen
- Sailor Venus - Galatea
- Sailor Pluto - Tabitha
- Sailor Saturn - Clare
- Sailor Uranus - Deneve
- Sailor Neptune - Teresa
- Sailor Chibi-Moon - Riful (Old ladies trapped in a young body lol)

@ Evobluefox

Here you go.
So is this what you mean?
lol

Re: Claymore Hang-out Thread

Utsune-chaaan ^_^ Could you clarify a little what's going on with the sentence "Therefore, I try to introduce characters in the storyboard first and if they moved, then I'll use them as they are or something. It's highly unlikely to give them a personality beforehand." I'm confused about what's going on here: is he saying that he only creates world around characters? If so, then why is he suddenly talking about when he gives them personality?

And I am in awe of his ability to dynamically construct a tidy, coherent narrative with consistent theme and character development. That's amazing.

Also, his character-first approach really explains a lot. It makes for great, consistent people, always the strength of this story, but perhaps explains his habit of glossing over things.

Now to compare the character archetypes of Sailor Moon and Claymore :D If anyone wants a sentence that's Number A catnip, btw, that's it~!

Sailor Moon - Yuma
I see where you're coming from with this, they're both the one with the useless vibe who goes all God-mode in a pinch, but the nature of their uselessness is, I think, very different. Yuma is, to this day, the weakest member of their team even if she's strong in absolute terms, and will likely never get over once having been number 40. Usagi though. . . she's an irresponsible crybaby because she's lazy, not because she's weak. At some level she knows this and it gives her an underlying confidence Yuma lacks.

Sailor Mercury - Cynthia
Smart, quiet, considerate of others, medically inclined, sense of humour runs to gentle trolling. Yep. I see it. Ami doesn't have Cynthia's suicidal streak though but admittedly she's not been through nearly as much pain.

Sailor Mars - Miria
Well, manga Rei (as far as I've read, I'm only halfway through the arc that corresponds to Sailor Moon Super) has something of the grim intensity that Miria carries but she isn't a leader. Anime Rei is about a zillion times livelier than Miria ever is and neither of the Reis has ever shown the clarity of thought under pressure that's Miria's defining characteristic. I don't see it.

Sailor Jupiter - Helen
Okay, now I'm really confused. Mako-chan isn't a loudmouth and doesn't delight in conflict the way Helen does; sticking up for people is not the same as picking fights. Also, like, Mako-chan worries (needlessly ^_^) about not being feminine enough and takes social norms very seriously while Helen doesn't give a damn what anyone thinks of her. They strike me as pretty different.

Sailor Venus - Galatea
Not as different as these two, though, at least Mako-chan and Helen both like parties o_o I really don't see where you're coming from with this one. Galatea is smart, stylish, witty, considerate, and a cynical pessimist. Minako is thoughtless, ambitious, a little self-absorbed, energetic, and almost disturbingly positive. If anything she's the one who's like Helen (impulsive, cheerful) and Galatea is the one who's like Mako (tall, beautiful, and a bit of a tank).

Sailor Pluto - Tabitha
I guess. . . ? They're both serious and duty-minded but Plu strikes me as more mature than Tabitha.

Sailor Saturn - Clare
Well, they both harbour great power within that isn't quite them somehow but other than that I don't really see it.

Sailor Uranus - Deneve
OH GOD YES! Particularly in the first half of season 3 when they're establishing her character and she gets all the D&M convos ^_^ This one came to me in episode 97 when she totally gets why Ami was holding back in her swim-off with Michiru. I think it's the hair or maybe it's the keen sense of how people work, low tolerance for bullshit, gruff manner, and blunt fighting style. Haruka is flirtier, though (seriously, is there a girl she doesn't hit on?), and has a sense of humour that Deneve kind of totally lacks.

Sailor Neptune - Teresa
I see it ^_^ They certainly resemble each other and sport similar 'thou shalt not fuck with me' smiles. There's also the tenacious loyalty to one other special person (note: loyalty != romantic attatchment; I don't ship Clare and Teresa) and general dislike of people otherwise. I first thought Michiru reminded me of Galatea, though, I think it's her gentle sense of humour and classy style.

Sailor Chibi-Moon - Riful (Old ladies trapped in a young body lol)
Heh. Did you find Chibiusa hyperannoying? I kind of did but them decided she had enough of a chip on her shoulder that she's sort of OK.
