Interim Round 3: Music Bands​

Hello. Since @Xadyu is still sick. (Get well soon dude!) We'll be having a 3rd interim round, Music Bands!

From rock/metal bands, boy/girl bands/groups, orchestras etc!

Requirement is a minimum of three main members so it should be at least a three-piece band or a trio, touring members are not included!
E.G. Nirvana, Cream, The Police, Lady Antebellum, LSD

Not limited to English-speaking music bands/groups. So you can nominate local bands/groups from your country (or anywhere)

Solo artists/ and Duos will be for another round!
Not eligible e.g. Daft Punk, Harry and the Potters

Do I have to specify the specific line up of the band I like?

Heh, I asked the same, although with Bruce Springsteen as an example. I consider his solo work and the work he’s done with The E Street Band to be two whole different entities, really. The problem is, all the albums of theirs (except live ones) are listed as only “Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run” etc, and their wikipedia page don’t count Bruce Springsteen as a “member of the band”. So I’ll regretfully admit that maybe they’re not eligible for this category (unless I want to nominate only E Street, but nah).

The Jimi Hendrix Experience on the other hand is the name of the band where Jimi Hendrix was member and front man, not just the “band he worked with”, and they’re listed as The Jimi Hendrix Experience on the albums, rather than Jimi Hendrix. But listing them here would mean that Jimi Hendrix wouldn’t be eligible for the solo artist category which may or may not come in the future.. (well, he did play with Band of Gypsys as well, but that was for one live album and not the best one by far).

Still, I think it might be easiest to go with whether they’re “part of the band” or if they’re solo artist with a backing band. Thoughts?

On the other hand, in cases like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers who are listed as such on their albums, but where Tom Petty’s solo work contains some of his best albums (Wildflowers in particular), would his solo work and his work with TPatH be considered separate or would that all be filed under “Tom Petty”?

Yea I couldn't find the right example to pose the question. Tom Petty sounds closer to the situation I had in mind (Stevie Ray Vaughan, his band is Double Trouble, they are billed as SRV and Double Trouble and that's the title on the CD).

I'd prefer to name these guys in the solo category.

Guess it’s up to Faust in the end. I do consider The Jimi Hendrix Experience to be a band though, even though it’s mostly just Hendrix who’s mentioned these days.. It’s sort of the same situation as with The Stooges (or Iggy and the Stooges) – they’re clearly a band in their own right, even if Iggy Pop himself is more famous than the band. Just because a certain member of the band is more famous than the rest doesn’t change the fact that they were, really, a band, no matter if they named it after the front man or not.

Though tbf, Iggy Pop has had a long solo career as well so should be eligible in both categories. But all of Hendrix’s solo albums (excluding some of the posthumous ones) were recorded as The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and as such I feel they should be in this category rather than the solo artist one.

The solo artists category would not be limited to just singers/vocalist. Instrumentalists will also be included in the Top 10 solo artists list.

Quick question: in cases like Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, where the artist has done solo work but the band is the one which has been “his band” for the majority of his career.. what does that count as? As “Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band” or just “ The E Street Band”? The problem in the latter case is that E Street hasn’t actually released anything on their own, only with Bruce. But they’re still much more than just a “back-up band” for Bruce, an integral part of his live shows all on their own.

If you want diversity on your Music category lists, I suggest that you choose between Jimi Hendrix and TJHE.

But if you really want to add The Jimi Hendrix Experience on this list, and if you want to add Jimi Hendrix in your solo artist list in the future, feel free to do so.

Same with Bruce Springsteen, you clearly prefer him over the band. So I recommend to just reserve him for the solo artists category.

But you guys can work on your solo artists (especially this one) and duo lists for the future.

I suggest you weigh in if you like the band more or you prefer the solo artist more than the band. So you wouldn't be wasting on including a band in your lists that you don't really like all the members and just prefer one or two of them, and in that case just add that specific person on your solo artists lists.

But listing them here would mean that Jimi Hendrix wouldn’t be eligible for the solo artist category which may or may not come in the future.. (well, he did play with Band of Gypsys as well, but that was for one live album and not the best one by far).

He would still be eligible in the solo artists category,

The important thing, is for this category: the one that's eligible is 'The Jimi Hendrix Experience'
However, you can still add 'Jimi Hendrix' in your future solo artists list if you want to.

Same thing with any other bands/groups. You can add 'The Beatles' in your list for this category at the same time, you can still include all of the members on the Solo artists category if you want to, but do you really want to use 4/10 on just them? I guess if you're really a Beatles-maniac, why not? This is like what we do in the fictional characters categorym most of us just limit ourselves to selecting one character (although we like multiple ones) from a specific show.

I think it’s fair that if one member of a group (i.e. Jimi Hendrix) is eligible for solo artist category, so should the rest of the group (even though I don’t think anyone would include someone other than the front man or possibly solo guitarist etc for any band). But still, they should be accepted.

Okay, I’ll narrow down my list later. This one is definitely easier than the solo artist one will be... shudders.
