I'm pretty sure Natsu will keep the fire dragon king spells. I got the impression that Natsu was only using Igneel's power against Zeref, and not for anyone else. I also got the impression that using Igneel's power doesn't necessarily mean Natsu was using fire dragon king spells. If he was using Igneel's power whenever he used fire dragon king spells, why didn't Happy expressed his surprise when he used them against the Alvarez Army? Why would Natsu hold back against a Spriggan, but not against the War God or fodders? Against Zeref, why did he wait until the final attack to enter fire dragon king mode? The fact that Natsu still had enough power for one more attack against Zeref but was worried it was going to run out kind of goes against the idea that he can store this power and use it bit by bit.
Now, some people have said that he said he was using Igneel's flames when he used demolition fist against Ikusa-Tsunagi, but in the Japanese raws he only mentioned Igneel's name (イグニール ) in the subtext of Fire Dragon King (炎竜王). That's really just there to indicate that when Natsu says "Fire Dragon King" he's referring to Igneel's title. In the actual spoken words, he would have said "炎竜王". When we hear it from the anime, it's likely it will be "en-ryu-ou" as opposed to "Ig-ni-ru". The Imishihui Chinese translations neglect to put Igneel's name altogether. Instead, they just write 火龍王, which is just fire dragon king.
I guess we'll have to see whether or not he can still use the Fire Dragon King spells and how he stacks up against a Spriggan.
I think the latest chapter just confirmed what I was saying.

I think the latest chapter just confirmed what I was saying.
That is a very subdued victory dance.

For me the main part is that he can use FDK as a mode (aside from the damage feat of FDK fist of course). I was basically certain he'd use FDK spells, but the mode was a 50-50 thing.

I've always thought of FDK as just a higher level of spells. But the Zeref chapter revelations had me thinking it was more like LFD. It's really a combination of both. I believe Natsu used Igneel's MP/flames as a blueprint for the FDK spells in an attempt to match that quality of flame. The product, after 10 months of training, is FDK spells, which are more effective at handling Igneel's MP so to speak. This is different in some regards to LFD, but the general mode of use is the same. Rather than dual element it is simply a higher level of flame.

Part 1 – Zeref the creator and overall source for E.N.D. info

Zeref is the creator of all the Etherious and the key to Natsu’s past, therefore, he knows more about E.N.D. than anyone else. It appears so far Mashima is revealing bits and pieces of the truth with each time he’s focused on.

To know E.N.D. is to know what Zeref has to say for what he states is fact.

- Zeref’s one wish, the purpose of Etherious

First let’s dive into the origins of the Etherious and E.N.D. a little bit.

As the Curse of Ankhseram kept affecting him Zeref begun to wish for a way to end his existence. He states that he created the Etherious by breaking the greatest taboo in magic for such a purpose.

The fact Zeref says that tells us that magic used to create Etherious is taboo. Since it is taboo this doesn’t bode well for anyone of his creations. In fact, this means that the magic was forbidden and was not supposed be performed. Zeref already fell under the Death Curse for trying to resurrect his brother. So this shows that the Etherious was yet around the wrong move by him. This also reveals that Etherious are probably dangerous cursed creatures.

The Etherious sadly for Zeref were unable to kill him. From what we’ve seen with Tartaros and Deliora he created many demons until he decided upon one last effort, one last chance at his possible death.

- The Creation of E.N.D. and Reincarnating of Natsu

His last Etherious was created using the body of his brother Natsu Dragneel who we’ve learned perished along with his parents in the midst of dragon.

The Natsu we know is the reincarnation of the young boy. Zeref seems to carry a great fondness for him despite Natsu not being entirely the same brother he knew in the past. He went as far as to give him a special name of the Dragneel brother’s first life. “Etherious Natsu Dragneel”

According to Zeref, he is basically human sort of since he is actual flesh and blood. Because he used his brother’s body as the source for his creation. He’d apparently somehow managed to keep it safe this entire time.

After Zeref says this he goes on to explain that Natsu is the Etherious Reincarnation of his brother. So not only is he human but he is a demon. Natsu is a mixture of both.

Also should be noted:

In the chapter earlier that gave the big reveal. Zeref specifically states that Natsu should try to surpass him. He wants his brother to be the one to kill him.

- According to Zeref’s words, E.N.D. and Natsu are possibly 2 beings

When Zeref speaks to Natsu alone in the Tartaros Arc he specifically states that one will reach him. He says it will be either Natsu or E.N.D.

The way this is worded and spoke brings up the possibility that there is a separate being living inside Natsu and this is E.N.D. Zeref even states it speaking to you which is Natsu and E.N.D. individually. This shouldn’t be so hard to imagine after all Natsu is a vessel of sorts for the Etherious powers that Zeref instilled inside him. Each Etherious has their own identity as a demon so why wouldn’t E.N.D. be the same? The way Zeref spoke to him alludes to the fact that Natsu or E.N.D. could be the one that reaches Zeref.

Zeref’s last words state he hopes to see Natsu again this could mean that he hopes to see Natsu as himself and not E.N.D.

This hope is shown quite clearly in Chapter 465 when Zeref states he always believed that Natsu might be the one to kill him.

To me it is clear when you connect these two scenes together that Zeref is talking about Natsu being the one to kill him and not E.N.D. Zeref has also stated before that he hopes to meet his brother again.

Also, Etherious are the ones that Zeref created specifically to kill him his last one is Natsu. All the others have failed him in the past. Since Natsu was created from a previously dead body as well as the methods that usually bring about Etherious there is the possibility that this makes him special. He is not only Etherious/demon but also human. Just something to think about.

+

Although E.N.D. is considered the one we’d expect to kill Zeref. It seems most likely given the facts that Zeref actually hopes that Natsu is the one who kills him instead. Releasing E.N.D. might do more harm than good. Or it could just be a matter of the love Zeref has for his brother. Either way, to me it is clearly a possibility that Natsu and E.N.D. are separate beings sharing the same body. I will explain this in further detail as the facts are shown.

Please Note:

In the last pages of the chapter 400 Years, Zeref appeared to be ready accept Natsu’s deathblow now that his brother knows the truth behind his past. Tears are in his eyes as states in almost a warning that this is Natsu’s very last chance to stop him.

Might not mean anything but this could foreshadow for us the readers possibly this was Natsu’s final chance to kill him as a human. Natsu obviously didn’t kill Zeref so this clearly means there is an open possibility here that E.N.D. will be released and Natsu could be completely taken over by his alter ego. It seems to speak of that. Even if Zeref in his final statement says on the last page “No one can kill him.”

- E.N.D. is not the Guildmaster of Tartaros or its direct creator.
When Dragneel Brothers meet up in the Tartaros Arc. Zeref tells Natsu how the guild was created by demons. He had no part in its creation. He says he heard E.N.D. created it.

Now I think there is a clear clue right here that Zeref is only telling a half-truth. He says that he heard the guild was the work of E.N.D. yet he doesn’t explicitly state it was E.N.D.’s creation. Actually, Zeref was being quite clever here he used the rumors to tell his facts. It's clear Zeref was baiting Natsu to learn more about E.N.D. and, therefore, his past. The timing just wasn’t right for him to reveal to Natsu his heritage yet. But us as readers should have caught on that Zeref doesn’t entirely affirm the true guild master. I almost wonder if Zeref also dropped these clues to Natsu would hunt for the Book of E.N.D. so Zeref could retrieve it from Mard Geer.

+

In Chapter 465 during the revelation of Natsu’s heritage and his clear protest against it the fire dragon slayer points out that E.N.D. is a demon and creator of Tartaros and Natsu is, in fact, human. Zeref tells the whole truth behind the guild’s creation and Zeref states it quite plainly and directly. Tartaros’ founder and true master is Mard Geer. He used the Book of E.N.D. to show the proof of the need for the Etherious to unite under one guild. Sometime in the past apparently Zeref lost the book and Mard found it.

Remember what I said before Zeref has stated Natsu is both human and Etherious in the past. He doesn’t say anything in response to Natsu’s claim that he isn’t a demon so Natsu is probably in fact a demon and human. If he wasn’t then Zeref would have brought that up when they talked.

After this Zeref goes on to explain that Natsu was involved in the creation of the guild Tartaros significantly. Merely because his book was used by Mard Geer to spur the demons on.

Okay, let’s take a moment to read this. Think back on how Zeref spoke about the guild being the work of E.N.D. in the Tartaros Arc. Clearly I already explained that the way Zeref spoke about the guild’s creation that Zeref didn’t directly state that E.N.D. actually created the guild. Here in the present with those words, Zeref is telling Natsu why he said E.N.D. was involved in the past. Because despite the fact Natsu was not directly present in the guild, his book was still the foundation for the guild. Here Zeref is telling Natsu that he wasn’t lying to him before he was only speaking in half-truth and making it clear that Natsu though not by his own merit was involved.

- According to Zeref: Igneel couldn’t kill E.N.D.

In chapter 373 back when Zeref and Natsu spoke about E.N.D. Zeref corrected Natsu’s understanding that E.N.D. was the one Igneel tried to kill. He tells him that he misinterpreted it wasn’t a matter that he tried it was actually that he could not.

To me, the very fact that Zeref states he could not kill him aligns well with our current understanding. Natsu assumed that Igneel was unable to kill him and that he even attempted yet Zeref says that it was more of a matter that he could not. Which seems to involve a choice rather than he was physically incapable.

Zeref seems to reaffirm this with his next statement to Natsu that Igneel was unable to kill E.N.D.

Now the way Zeref says this shows that Igneel had intended to kill E.N.D. but he could not do it. Something stopped Igneel from killing Natsu. But the fact remains that this clearly states that some reason had forced Igneel to go after E.N.D. with the intentions of killing him. This says that for some reason E.N.D. was viewed as a true threat and someone who had to be destroyed. There had to be a motivation behind Igneel even approaching Natsu with these intentions.

Of course to add to things we now know thanks to Chapter 465 that Igneel was physically capable of killing Natsu, but he stopped because he loved him.

It’s interesting that once Igneel had considered Natsu a threat but in the midst of his intentions to kill him he’d grown to love him. Zeref has stated before that Igneel could not kill Natsu and others including Atlas Flame have stated he intended to. So for some reason, Igneel developed a deep affection for Natsu. The fact Zeref states it as love shows that there is the possibility that Igneel might have developed an affection for Natsu even if from a distance before Igneel was charged with killing him. Mainly I believe this because love is not something that is given merely outright love shows depth and growing affection. But then we also know that Igneel was the greatest lover of human’s as stated by Grandeeny. So it is not impossible for Igneel to develop affection for Natsu before they officially met. I think if it were merely a matter of taking pity on him Zeref would have stated it as such. Yet he uses the claim that Igneel loved him at that time.

- Zeref speaks of E.N.D.’s power and status as his greatest creation
We are nearing the end of this section concerning Zeref’s reveals directly. But I’d like to end by showing clearly that Natsu’s reputation as E.N.D. is not merely a matter of Zeref’s affection for his brother. He uses three different phrases to describe E.N.D.

When Zeref and Natsu met up in Tartaros he states that E.N.D. is the most powerful demon he created.

E.N.D. is a demon and he is powerful. Zeref is speaking here of the capabilities of Natsu as an Etherious. He doesn’t give titles lightly nor speak of it just for show. It’s also interesting to note that after he says this Zeref states that he’ll have to make a decision. This possibly shows another reason to see Natsu and E.N.D. as separate beings. Because at the time Zeref is speaking to Natsu as if he isn’t E.N.D. This brings up even more of possibility that they are independent.

+

In the Memoirs chapter, Zeref speaks to his creation for the first time and calls him the strongest Etherious of them all.

Most likely this means that Zeref put a lot of effort into making Natsu the strongest. Here Zeref speaks more of the physical capabilities of Natsu. Not only is he supposed to the powerful compared to the other Etherious but he is supposed to the strongest. Also, when you read the text notice that even in this moment Zeref is speaking of Natsu as two beings. He says, “I have obtained both in one body.” This, even more, affirms that Natsu Dragneel and E.N.D. could be two beings. He is the reincarnation of Zeref’s dead brother and an Etherious. Anyways E.N.D.’s powers shouldn’t rule out. Clearly Zeref, his creator should know what his brother is capable of. Also, Zeref is not one to state things without proper meaning behind his words.

Now in the current arc, Zeref speaks to Natsu directly in the present calling him the greatest of all the Etherious.

Here Zeref is speaking of E.N.D.’s reputation. This is reiterated in the fact he speaks of Mard using him as a billboard. Zeref is affirming that his finest Etherious is Natsu. This isn’t merely because he’s his brother and Zeref was able to resurrect his brother by creating him. No, if that were the case then he wouldn’t first call E.N.D. his strongest, and then most powerful creation. E.N.D.’s reputation is real and he is, in fact, everything Zeref stated and no doubt more. Mashima has carefully dropped hints of the Etherious’ capabilities throughout the times that Zeref spoke to Natsu.

Another thing to note is the wording on this page. Zeref says Natsu’s name twice once separate as plain old him and then calls him Etherious Natsu Dragneel then states E.N.D. This may or may not be significant, but it almost seems to play along with the other points where Zeref spoke of E.N.D.’s capabilities because it seems to be that there is a possibility that this shows even more that Natsu and E.N.D. are separate beings in the same vessel. Maybe or maybe not it's something to think about.

+

Final thoughts on this section. Just because Zeref has revealed new facts in Chapter 465 about E.N.D. doesn’t mean that the old ones aren’t important. As I’ve clearly shown here Mashima is ingeniously having Zeref reveal only bits and pieces each time that the Dragneel Brothers’ meet. All of those pieces connect into one big puzzle that makes Natsu’s alter ego of E.N.D. When you read things this way you can see that they match up with each other and add rather than dissuade previous statements. It’s really quite clever.

And since Zeref is the end all source other than Igneel possibly for true knowledge on E.N.D. it's important to pay attention to these details.

Part 2: Igneel and E.N.D.
So next to Zeref who is the best so source for information regarding Natsu and E.N.D.’s past? Along with who they were before coming to the future? Well, that would be of course the one who raised Natsu and was great friends with his older brother. Yes, indeed it is Igneel.

- Natsu as two separate beings

Igneel like Zeref seems to allude to the fact that Natsu is two beings. In Chapter 400 right before Igneel physically appears Natsu hears his voice in his head. Igneel tells Natsu that he expects him to defeat E.N.D.

I find it interesting that Igneel states that he trusts that Natsu will defeat E.N.D. The way he says this is actually the clearest sign that there could possibly be two beings inside of Natsu. Igneel wants Natsu to defeat E.N.D. He believes he can. Igneel seems to regard the two as separate, not the same person. It’s almost as Igneel believes that Natsu needs to conquer his counterpart. Now the fact that not only Zeref’s words imply this but also Igneel’s as well clearly shows this is not a coincidence.

- Igneel’s warning

In chapter 401 Igneel tasks Natsu in the mission of stealing the Book of E.N.D. from Mard Geer. Before he sends him on the task Igneel stops him and tells him directly two rules he must follow. Natsu must not open the book and he shouldn’t destroy it.

I think this is one of the clearest sign of all that E.N.D. is bad news. Igneel states these two things in separate bubbles. Telling Natsu he should not open the book seems to imply that he can open the book and possibly he’s the only one able to. This makes sense because we’ve yet to see Zeref do it himself and he’s had plenty opportunities. Anyways, his warning not to open the book is probably because it will either release E.N.D. the demon or Natsu’s inner Etherious drive to kill Zeref and everything in the process.

He tells Natsu not to destroy the book because if he does such a thing he will die. However why must he not open the book? If Natsu is merely who he is now then why does Igneel go to such lengths to keep him from opening it. This makes it clear to me that either Natsu’s instinct or another being is inside the book.

Opening the book after all probably wouldn’t result in his death but destroying it would. These are two separate concepts.

- Igneel's statement after they destroy FACE

Here’s another red flag about E.N.D after the dragons destroy FACE. Igneel himself states, “We have halted the resurrection of E.N.D.!”

Read that carefully this is indeed the proper translation. Igneel states that they halted the process of E.N.D.’s revival. Why would this mean so much to Igneel if Natsu was simply human? And why would he state that the Tartaros’ guilds efforts could have possibly awakened Natsu’s other-self. This is a warning a clear direct warning that if E.N.D. is revived there will be consequences.

Also, the dragons took a big risk in appearing at this moment. And apparently according to Igneel it was all to keep E.N.D. from resurrecting. Yet also, we know from the past and present that the dragons main goal were to destroy Acnologia that is the entire reason they traveled to the present. They’d kept themselves alive by residing inside their children. Yet Igneel appears to have gone to lengths to prolong E.N.D.’s return. If the dragons were willing to take such risks then logically it stands to reason that E.N.D. should not be brought back and Natsu probably does have another soul or instinct inside him.

Part 3: The Nature of Etherious

Before we go on further I think it’s important to have a little recap on the nature of Etherious. This is essentially what Natsu Dragneel is. Although unlike other Etherious from what we know he is the only one to be created using the body of a human. Still, in essence, he is the same thing as the rest of them just potentially as Zeref says more powerful, stronger, and the greatest one of all.

- What they are

In Memoirs, we learn the true origins behind Zeref’s Demons from his book. Zeref created these lifeforms for the sole purpose of killing him. This was his one and is his final wish. He gave them the name Etherious because he created these demons out of Ether, which is what gives magic its shape.

Unlike E.N.D. is clear that the others bodies were made out entirely out of Ether. This could mean that E.N.D. was mostly created from the body of Zeref’s brother, but it could also mean that E.N.D. could be a combination of both Ether and Human. Please note they are still called demons even by Zeref so the Etherious possibly have some kind of demon essence/soul inside them. If that is true the same could be said about Natsu.

- The instinct of all Etherious

In Tartaros Arc, we learn about the instinct of Etherious from Mard Geer directly. Etherious have a genetic compulsion to return to Zeref. This is shared by all of them but for some reason, Mard Geer is possibly the only one who realizes this instinct came from their creator. At least, this is what he believes

This command to return to Zerref is embedded in every Etherious’ being. So it seems logical that E.N.D. the greatest of the demons would have this instinct as well. It makes sense given the first time Zeref and Natsu were reunited since he lost his memories that he punched him with no thought. Chances are instinctually Natsu has the same drive. But most likely this instinct will increase after the Book of E.N.D. is opened. Because despite the fact he’s attacked Zeref in the past he never actually did it with the intent of killing him till they were reunited in the Alvarez Arc.

Mard Geer goes on a little while later to explain how exactly the instinct to Return to Zeref works. It’s the wish to meet Zeref. The impulse to do anything for Zeref.

It explains why the council members lives were expendable and why the demons disregard human life and will even kill people and creatures to fulfill their master’s wishes. Zeref wishes to die and his Etherious respond to this wish. Etherious are drawn towards their creator, which may or may not explain Natsu’s impulse to confront Zeref on his own.

Either way, E.N.D. is an Etherious and no doubt like the others would disregard human life in a heartbeat to only act on the impulse to destroy Zeref. It could explain why there is such a reputation built around E.N.D. as dangerous being. Does this make him and the Etherious evil? Not exactly. To the Etherious, nothing matters but granting Zeref’s wish and killing him. That is all. So why would they care little about human life or creation? We can see they don’t.

So even if there isn’t a separate being inside the book it could be the Etherious drive of Natsu to disregard human life and focus all intent on Zeref while leaving death and destruction in his wake. Igneel might have tried to keep E.N.D. sealed partially to protect Natsu and also to keep his other half from ending that era. We don’t know for sure but Natsu is an Etherious and I feel like the Tartaros Arc is partially a reflection of what and how Etherious act to show us what Natsu could become if and when E.N.D. is resurrected.

- E.N.D.’s weakness same as other Etherious

I know a lot of people who were upset that Natsu was taken down so easily when Zeref damaged his book, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise. Like all Etherious Natsu’s life is tied to his book. It’s his lifeline.

In the last couple of chapters of the Tartaros Arc, it is made clear that Zeref can manipulate his Etherious with the means of their books. Zeref reverts Mard Geer back into his book form then proceeds to burn the book to ashes thereby killing his creation.

Right, here we see that Zeref can kill his creations with their books. He completely kills Mard Geer in this way. I find it interesting that he had to revert Mard Geer back to his book form to kill him yet with E.N.D. both the book and Natsu are separated right now. It stands to reason that unlike the other Etherious there is a slight difference in the connection of Natsu to his book. This also makes me believe more clearly that E.N.D. and Natsu are separate because he doesn’t have to revert him back to book form like he did Mard.

I believe that Zeref could have possibly in the past separated the Etherious being of E.N.D. from the human half that was simply his brother Natsu. Which is why the two coexist at the same time as separate beings.

Could also be why Igneel didn’t kill E.N.D. because doing so would kill Natsu. Perhaps this means Natsu and Igneel knew each other before he went after E.N.D. I could almost see it as a possibility. I guess we’ll have to see.

Still the point of the example above is Natsu is not immune to his book’s power over him. Like all the other Etherious he can be affected by damage dealt to his book. In Chapter 465 Zeref uses this weakness to show Natsu that he is indeed Etherious Natsu Dragneel. Zeref did this merely because Natsu has trouble listening to reason and needs physical proof to actually see the truth in his brother’s claim.

Here clearly just like Mard Geer we see that Natsu as an Etherious can be affected by his creator using his powers on his book. Interestingly enough if you read the next page we see that the book barely looks like it took any damage from Zeref’s attack. So clearly he was only giving his brother a taste of what could happen to his book. Also, chances are Natsu might have remembered what Zeref did to Mard so this could be another reason why this would cause Natsu to start to believe his fate.

So yes you can see here clearly that being affected by your book is a normal occurrence for Etherious. It shouldn’t be seen as bizarre. It actually demonstrates just how much of an Etherious is Natsu/E.N.D. He shares the same weakness as his counterparts even if there are a few differences. Mainly that the demon and his book can coexist in the same location unlike what we’ve seen with Mard Geer who was reverted back to his book form. This is, even more, ample proof that E.N.D. and Natsu are quite possibly separate beings.

- What it entails for Etherious to kill their creator

In Chapter 465 of the Alvarez Arc, a clear understanding and threat is realized on just what exactly it means to return to Zeref. If Natsu or another Etherious was to kill Zeref they’d also die.

It’s interesting that Zeref states Natsu is a demon of the Book of Zeref before he gives his brother this warning. It is clear that if any of the Etherious were capable of killing Zeref then this would mean they’d die as well. In fact, it stands to reason that Zeref’s death would amount to all of the Etherious being killed.

I won’t go into too much depth, but I do believe this affirms that all of the Etherious are connected to Zeref directly. I think that there is a possibility that each of there are bits and pieces of Zeref’s soul which he cast off to create the Etherious. Perhaps he found the only way to kill himself is by having a being who is directly connected to him do it. We know for a fact that their own death wouldn’t kill Zeref or he’d have died with Deliora early on. Yet if they kill him it appears that it will wipe out all the other demons from existence. Just an interesting note.

+

I hope that from this part you’ve begun to see that Natsu/E.N.D. as an Etherious carries the same instinct and weakness as the others. Yet E.N.D. unlike them has a separate form. This makes it more apparent that there is a separation between Natsu and E.N.D. or we should expect Natsu’s book not to exist in a physical form side by side with him. Also, unlike the other Etherious Natsu is not merely or at all made from Ether he was created using the body of Zeref’s dead brother. So it shouldn’t be impossible for the resurrection Natsu to also trigger the creation and awakening of an Etherious who shares the body. Each has their own distinct personality. Natsu we would like to assume is the human boy who died revived but what if there is an Etherious that could essentially be another creature connected to Natsu

Second part of the same theory
(please note I could not post the entire theory in one post hence why double)
4 - The reputation of E.N.D.

Now we come to the part of this analysis that will probably have a lot of disagreements and questions. What people other than Zeref and Igneel have to say about E.N.D. Yes, Natsu’s family is the best source for information on E.N.D. but I don’t think that we should ignore existing information from outside parties. There is a reason Mashima uses these characters to speak about E.N.D. and some of their statements essentially develop a reputation for E.N.D. that is important to pay attention to. Just so you know this part might see the most controversy in viewpoints but I still found it necessary to cover.

- Mard Geer’s belief to E.N.D.

Though Mard Geer used E.N.D. as a scapegoat to unite all of the Etherious under their common goal I still believe that he genuinely saw E.N.D. as Zeref’s greatest creation and did go to all the trouble to resurrect him simply so he and the others could finally return to Zeref in peace. Here’s why I believe it.

In Chapter 406 of the Tartaros Arc, there is a clear sign that Mard Geer respects and cares about E.N.D.’s continued existence. Before Mard Geer planned to fight the enemy directly on his own he placed the Book of E.N.D. on a table and told him that he’d have to wait a little longer.

Since the moment, Mard Geer was introduced he clung to the Book of E.N.D. like a lifeline. Yet when he decided to fight the enemy directly he set the book down so it would avoid the battle. Mard shows here his belief in E.N.D. and is showing courtesy for him. This would not come without him believing in his goal. In fact, Mard Geer knows that direct damage to a book of Zeref can result in its death so he is showing caution and great care. Another thing is I’m fairly certain there were no Etherious around at the time so this further shows Mard Geer believed in E.N.D. since he addresses the book in the presence of his enemies he didn’t have to do this, but he did.

In the following chapter, Mard Geer explains that despite its appearance right now this is E.N.D. the Master of Tartaros and the powerful Etherious of Zeref.

Here Mard Geer is making an effort to explain that all of the Etherious actions were for the sake of reviving E.N.D. Mard Geer assures them that the book is actually an Etherious such as him. But unlike him, it is the most powerful. Okay, let’s take a moment to look over those words Mard Geer is saying. He says that E.N.D. is the most powerful. Remember back to when I was explaining Zeref’s statements of E.N.D.’s reputation? In this same Arc when Zeref and Natsu met together, he stated that E.N.D. is his most powerful Etherious. So Mard Geer is reaffirming exactly the same thing Zeref was saying. Therefore, it’s a fact because Zeref was the first to say it.

Also, on another page, Mard Geer states that E.N.D. is the pinnacle of his creations. However it is sealed by a ward and Mard believes that taking away all the magic in the world with the help of FACE that E.N.D. will awaken from his slumber.

If Mard Geer doesn’t believe in E.N.D. and merely used him completely as a prop then why would he call E.N.D. the pinnacle of Zeref’s creations. Pinnacle means “the most successful point; the culmination.” In Memoirs, this is reiterated as true by the way because Zeref considers E.N.D. the last creation and even goes on his chapter 400 Years to say his greatest. But the point is Mard Geer spends an awful lot of time building up E.N.D.’s reputation and doesn’t seem to show much interest in his own. He clearly believes strongly in E.N.D.’s return. Like other Etherious Mard Geer’s goal is to return to Zeref by any means necessary.

Another thing that should be noted and could possibly be true. Mard Geer states that E.N.D. is sealed by a ward. I don’t think he was lying exactly here. Mard could have sensed that something was sealed inside the book. Whether it’s a separate Etherious than Natsu or its Natsu’s deadly instinct is unclear. But he might have actually sensed the Etherious Half of Natsu that was sealed in the book. Mard is a sharp and astute Etherious. He recognizes the instinct when other don’t to return to Zeref he doesn’t seem to even care about being dominate because of respect he shows the book. He merely wants to return to Zeref. So it's quite possible that once he realized that something was sealed in the book that E.N.D. could be released and would kill Zeref for them since none of them could do it.

In another chapter Mard Geer after he supposedly is successful in killing Natsu and Gray with Memento Mori. States that the last thing needing to be done is to resurrect E.N.D. so that the Etherious will kill Zeref.

Mard Geer went to a lot of effort to perfect Memento Mori. But clearly he realized it wasn’t enough to take down Zeref. He also seemed to decipher why only E.N.D. could kill Zeref. E.N.D. clearly has a sound reputation for Mard Geer to go to a lot effort to resurrect E.N.D.

Mard Geer in Chapter 412 speaks about a perilous future where the mankind has no magic to combat when E.N.D. the greatest demon of Zeref is reawakened.

Here Mard Geer seems to speak of foreboding future for mankind with all their magic gone. This to me gives a clear understanding for one of the reasons the Dragons worked so hard to keep E.N.D. from being revived and to stop Mankind from losing their magic. If FACE had successfully drained the world of magic then E.N.D.’s rampaging would not cease because no humans would have magic to stand up to him. So in essence as well as protecting Natsu from going after Zeref and potentially killing himself in the process. Their effort was to keep mankind safe and give them a fighting chance against E.N.D. remember Igneel said that they halted the processes clearly he still believes that E.N.D. will be reawakened in the future.

Another thing important about this moment is Mard Geer’s statement on E.N.D.’s reputation. It aligns perfectly with what Zeref tells Natsu directly in the Chapter 400 Years. He calls E.N.D. his greatest demon. So Mard Geer is speaking once more the truth here. It makes you wonder if his foretelling of what would happen if FACE wasn’t detonated foreshadows E.N.D.’s own malicious nature separate from Natsu.

One more thing regarding Mard Geer is the fact that Zeref commended Mard Geer on his effort to revive E.N.D. He says that the guild master was only a step away from reviving him. Zeref also tells him he can rest now.

This scene seems important. For one thing clearly defines Mard Geer’s genuine goal to resurrected E.N.D. for Zeref. His whole being was dedicated to this task. E.N.D. wasn’t merely a book to him but rather his hope for the future and his commitment to Zeref’s wish.

Another thing important to note is Zeref does not lie to anyone when he talks. In fact, I don’t remember him ever doing so. Zeref said that they’d been only a step away from reviving E.N.D. This means that if the dragons hadn’t destroyed FACE that E.N.D. would in fact be revived. Its also interesting that Zeref says Mard separately was close to reviving E.N.D. this was never Zeref’s own plan, but it was clear he’d have been fine if it happened.

So what to get from this? E.N.D. ‘s resurrection is real. The Book does have something sealed inside of it. Which I still believe was because Zeref for some reason. Also, remember earlier in this arc Zeref wondered whether it would be E.N.D. or Natsu he faced next time. He expected E.N.D. to be resurrected. A resurrection clearly means that this is a separate being or personality, not the same creature.

+

It is clear from this and other circumstances that even if Mard Geer possibly never met E.N.D. directly he’s heard of him. He probably heard true things about E.N.D. and others in between. It leads him to believe that E.N.D.’s resurrection would be the only way Tartaros could return to Zeref. There is also a good chance that Mard actually did sense another being inside the book and, therefore, planned to unseal it so the creature would go after Zeref. Zeref commending Mard’s effort shows that the mission could have succeeded and if it did Natsu would probably be replaced by his other half. Yes, Mard Geer is the creator of Tartaros but this doesn’t mean that E.N.D. wasn’t essential or he didn’t carry strong belief in his resurrection. Mard Geer believed that E.N.D. would kill Zeref and, therefore, allow them all to return to Zeref.

+

- Etherious belief in E.N.D. so much to sacrifice themselves

Kyôka is a fine example in the weight of the reputation E.N.D. has. When it appeared to Mard Geer they were going to lose he commanded her to create an organic link with the lacrima on the control room so they’d be able to set off the bomb early.

Having never met E.N.D. the Etherious Kyôka still agrees to sacrifice herself to ensure victory.

The Etherious will do anything and everything to revive E.N.D. all in order to fulfill their master’s wish to die. Like Mard, they have great belief that E.N.D. will be the one to kill Zeref. E.N.D. had to have had a reputation in the past for the Etherious to even follow Mard Geer’s command despite the fact the Book of E.N.D. is currently sealed. Both Mard Geer and the other Tartaros Etherious believed the only way to reach their goals was to sacrifice everything for their cause. Kyôka’s actions in agreeing to be the organic link to the controls for FACE shows how far this belief takes them.

- Atlas’ claim

In the Sun Village Arc when Atlas Flame is brought back through Wendy’s milky way spell, Atlas brings up something new that Team Natsu had never heard of. He speaks of Igneel, The Dragon Festival, Acnologia, and Zeref. Then he says he remembers everything now. He states that E.N.D. was the wickedest and most vicious demon of the Book of Zeref and that Igneel tried to destroy E.N.D. but failed.

Atlas Flame was the first character in the manga to ever talk about E.N.D. The reputation of E.N.D. in that time 400 years ago was that he was the wickedest, and the most vicious demon of Zeref. Interesting choice of words here. This states that E.N.D. was a cruel and despicable creature in a way. I don’t know if we should just forget his words. Atlas Flame was alive in that time so he’d know E.N.D.’s reputation. Knowing it was probably what led Igneel to the task of trying to kill E.N.D. but obviously, he failed because he loved Natsu.

Still Atlas’ words speak of a horrible Etherious. Given their nature, this is not impossible. They care nothing about humans or anything else then killing Zeref. Also, given that Atlas was close and personally connected to Igneel makes him a good source for information. There hasn’t been anything directly that affirms or goes against this belief. I’ve already explained why.

- Acnologia’s supposed fear of E.N.D. according to Mard Geer and Igneel

Okay now I’m getting to the part of this analysis which I’ve noticed faces the most controversy and debate. I am neither going to confirm or deny it. I will merely show what is in the manga and my thoughts. You don’t have to agree. But I think Hiro was really trying to show something with these scenes. I disagree with others who would write off Acnologia’s fear as a red herring. And I will show why.

Mard Geer is surprised by the appearance of Acnologia. Yet he assumes that the apocalypse dragon came because his target is E.N.D. He also considers that Acnologia may be afraid of the possibility of E.N.D. being resurrected.

Now yes Mard Geer doesn’t know Acnologia no. But we should be able to understand why he comes to this conclusion. Acnologia only appears at important moments when a change is coming. E.N.D. reviving could spell doom for a lot of people. Mard Geer foresees this and probably sees Acnologia’s arrival as a sign that E.N.D. is as great as the reputation connected to him.

Now another reason to think Acnologia may have a fear of E.N.D. is because in Chapter 413 like Mard Geer the fire dragon Igneel questions the dragon’s reappearance. He states clearly as a fact to Acnologia that the one he feared, E.N.D. is no longer a threat.

Igneel knows Acnologia maybe not personally, but he and his comrades went to a lot of effort to travel to the future where they’d have the ability to destroy him. So you have to wonder why Acnologia would show up at Tartaros where the main goal was to revive E.N.D. Look at this it clearly says according to Igneel that E.N.D. was a threat but is no longer. E.N.D. is a bad news. He isn’t merely hyped. Igneel is not someone who just states opinions lightly. Like Zeref, we should look to him as the authority on E.N.D.

Now interestingly enough Igneel’s words are in the past tense meaning that at one time E.N.D. could have essentially instilled fear in Acnologia. We can’t out rule this merely because of Acnologia’s response back…

Acnologia seems to scoff at Igneel’s words about him ever fearing a mere demon. He says that is no true. Then he states he is the king of dragons

Alright, I know a lot of people think this is a fact and believe Acnologia isn’t lying. I’m not sure he is either but I think there is a possibility he is self-deluding himself into believing that nothing could touch him. This doesn’t mean that Acnologia used to fear E.N.D. there’s a chance he did. Also, note that Acnologia states exactly what E.N.D. is so essentially he knows what he is. Igneel didn’t even state it. So in some shape or form, Acnologia might possibly have run into E.N.D. in the past as an opponent.

Also, I’d like to also point out Igneel’s words. Acnologia was born human.

Acnologia was born human and we’ve seen he can revert. Every human has a fear or weakness. Whether he once had a fear of E.N.D. or not is still a question. But Igneel seems aware of his fear personally. So there is a chance that it was a real thing in the past. Just because Acnologia denies it does no mean that the apocalypse dragon is being truthful. Also, for some reason, he feels the need to reaffirm himself at the top of the food chain. Why would he do that unless he’s trying to cover up or find proof of his claim? If anything, Acnologia seems to fear to loose his position as the dragon king.

- History Books

E.N.D. is mentioned briefly in history books. At least one of the ones Levy found during the Tartaros Arc after Natsu asked for her to look it up. She states it doesn’t go into much detail. However, it does say that demons like Lullaby and Deliora don’t compare to it.

From these facts, Lucy assumes that means that E.N.D. is the strongest demon in the Book of Zeref. She’s actually correct because Zeref clearly states E.N.D. is his strongest demon when Natsu was reborn.

Zeref clearly says the same thing as Lucy is assuming so this is actually a fact in Memoirs. He calls Natsu his strongest demon. Therefore, we know the what the history books had written about him is fact.

The book also says that Lullaby and Deliora do not compare. Which potentially means that E.N.D. has caused far damage and destruction in its wake.

We can’t write off this fact specifically because Zeref affirms Natsu’s strength.

*

Potentially some of E.N.D.’s reputation could be fact. Especially the pieces that align with the affirmation given by Zeref later on. It is clear only Zeref and Igneel know the correct interpretation completely. But as I’ve pointed out Zeref has stated the truth in some of these things said by outsiders. Therefore, it is important to look at everything. Not just skip over things.

Part 5: Natsu mission and Future Choice

After Natsu learned of E.N.D.’s connection to Igneel by Atlas Flame he starts searching everywhere for truth. Natsu hoped it would lead to him discovering where Igneel went. This all led him towards his big brother and the truth of his past was finally revealed now things are far more complicated.

Still I believe that both Zeref and Igneel in the Tartaros Arc are hinting towards a choice Natsu will have to make regarding E.N.D.

In chapter 373 when Natsu met up with Zeref he learned that Igneel was unable to kill E.N.D. Natsu then vows he’d take down E.N.D. like his father had intended to all along.

Essentially this means Natsu would be taking down himself, at least, that’s how it appears if you read it bluntly.

However on the next page, Zeref says that he believes Natsu could take down E.N.D.

I don’t think there any intent to confuse Natsu here. If E.N.D. and Natsu are two different beings then potentially he’ll have to face his darker half one day and take it down. Just as Igneel intended to but couldn’t because he’d be killing Natsu.

Zeref makes it clear that Natsu will have a decision to make one day. He then goes on to state it will be “To kill or let live”

Now this choice can be approached from two angles. On one, it is probably relating to his choice to kill Zeref and essentially himself in one take. Or on another side if E.N.D. and Natsu are separate this could be referring to the fact that Natsu is the one who will have to decide whether to kill E.N.D. and himself in the process to save others or let it live on and continue causing problems. Either way, this affirms that only Natsu can make his decision.

+

The choice Natsu will have to make regarding E.N.D. is shown in the fact that Igneel tells Natsu he’s the only one who can steal the Book of E.N.D.

This may not make sense but on the next page, Igneel also tells Natsu he cannot open the book or destroy it. It connects to Zeref’s command earlier to “Kill or Let Live.” Igneel is urging Natsu to make the right decision and not open the Book of E.N.D. like he can potentially do and also he can’t destroy it. Igneel’s words that only Natsu could steal and bring the book to Igneel help to foreshadow a choice Natsu will have to make.

6 - Gray’s mission

If E.N.D. wasn't a real threat and problem then why would Mashima go to all the effort to give Gray magic relating to slaying demons.

Importance of Gray’s ice devil slayer powers

It’s stated in Chapter 394 that Gray’s father Silver learned this magic specifically so that he could pass it down to Gray would be able to use it one day to take down E.N.D. Mainly it was Ice Demon Slayer magic because Silver found out that E.N.D. is a Fire Demon.

I find it significant that Silver learned somehow that E.N.D. was a fire demon. I wonder how because Mard Geer probably didn’t know E.N.D. personally since he used him as a prop to keep the guild prospering. Yet this shows that E.N.D. had a reputation because the Etherious knew E.N.D. is a fire demon.

Anyways the importance of this scene is in that fact that Gray’s Ice Slayer Magic is specifically for slaying demons that is what it is for. I’m certain Mashima has an important reason for Gray receiving these powers. And it ties into E.N.D. being a threat. Whether Natsu takes the identity of E.N.D., becomes all instinct, or E.N.D. is a separate being connected to Natsu is unclear but as I’ve shown throughout this analysis E.N.D. is a real threat.

And Gray’s significance as an Ice Demon Slayer would be seriously limited if the powers he was bequeathed were never usable and Natsu merely becomes powered up. This is another reason to know that E.N.D. is probably a threat because Silver’s sacrifice and Gray’s mission.

- Foreshadowed confrontation between Natsu/E.N.D. and Gray

In Chapter 412 Natsu and Gray conflict on their beliefs about E.N.D. Natsu is following his father’s orders to take the book to him. But Gray believes that the book should be destroyed. Because E.N.D. is the one who created Tartaros and it’s the ultimate volume of the Book of Zeref. Natsu states he made a promise to his father to take it back.

Okay, this is a moment of confrontation for the two friends/rivals. Both have different views on what should happen to the Book of E.N.D. and its because of their fathers. Natsu promised to take the book back to Igneel. But Gray is stating undeniable facts. Other than the Tartaros one from before.

Although E.N.D. did a part in its creation inadvertently still Gray does say that the Book of E.N.D. is the ultimate creation of Zeref and, therefore, it should be destroyed. He’s not wrong that it is Zeref’s best. I’ve already shown you all the things Zeref has stated about this Etherious in the past. I think it's also important to note that Gray probably is doing this also because he’s witnessed the destruction of Deliora and how it tore apart his family. If E.N.D. is supposed to be Zeref’s finest then there is no doubt Gray assumes he’s the worst.

This also should make us think of all the other Etherious. Why would E.N.D. be any different than them in potential threat? Zeref has stated he’s the most powerful, greatest, and strongest so obviously E.N.D. is all the others combined as a threat. You can understand Gray’s viewpoint on his mission to destroy E.N.D.

In Chapter 413 both Natsu and Gray at odds on what to do with the Book of E.N.D. Here like Natsu in the previous chapter Gray states he made a promise to take down E.N.D.

This promise we know came from Silver. Like Natsu with Igneel. Gray was given a mission by his own father. It conflicts with Natsu’s own. And the two of them actually started to look like they were going to fight each other over the fate of the book. Neither will budge on their decision and this because their fathers have instilled it in them.

These scenes between them with their conflict over the book shows them at odds and foreshadows the coming fight that will occur. Or even it could foreshadow that both of them together will go against E.N.D. if Natsu and E.N.D. are in fact separate. It could play out many ways but this scene shows the promise and vow of the two them don’t match up. And Gray will obviously face many conflicting thoughts once he realizes that Natsu is either entirely E.N.D. or connected to him where his friend’s life will end with the death of that Etherious.

- Gray’s dedication to taking down E.N.D.

In the end of the Tartaros Arc. Gray reaffirms with Juvia as his sole witness that he will personally take down E.N.D.

To honor his father’s final wish and put an end to Zeref’s greatest demon Gray promises to take E.N.D. down. This shows his commitment to the cause. It also is a sign of where the manga is heading in the future. Natsu promised to grow stronger to protect everyone and he did so by mastering the powers Igneel left him. But ultimately he was unable to use them to destroy Zeref or their possibly original purpose to defeat Acnologia. Gray will be heading down his own path in the future. Towards defeating E.N.D. if what happened with Natsu is testament then there is a chance that Gray will find himself in a similar situation where his entire mission is turned on its head.

Still we need to remember one thing. In the Avatar Arc, it is made clear that Gray’s goal is done properly. Briar asks Gray if he is still after E.N.D. or if that was too was a lie to infiltrate their headquarters. Gray states that it wasn’t he plans to get ahold of the book and destroy it. But he won’t kill people to reach his goal. He would not be able to face his father if he did that.

It’s interesting to note that Gray says he won’t help Avatar kill people to reach his goal. When he doesn’t know at the moment that him destroying the Book of E.N.D. will in fact kill Natsu. This almost states that perhaps he won’t be nearly as conflicted as we think. If E.N.D. is his own being then maybe Gray will make an effort to try and separate Natsu from the book so he’d be able to kill the demon without harming Natsu. Still this forebodes the fact that Gray is going to have to face the truth that his friend is E.N.D.

Conclusion:

These facts I’ve presented clearly show that E.N.D. is indeed more than just Natsu. He might be his alter ego, instinct, or a separate being that is connected. Either way, this all points to Etherious Natsu Dragneel as more than just a little boy.

Otherwise, Igneel would not go to all the trouble to keep him sealed. Therefore E.N.D. should still be considered a threat.

Zeref wouldn’t claim him to be the strongest, most powerful, and greatest Etherious to ever exist. Given the past Etherious, it is clear by these words that he will be far more than any of them.

I’m not saying E.N.D. may be an entirely evil creature. More likely he’ll be a being or instinct driven to kill Zeref and will disregard humanity's existence entirely. And kill without reason.

Also, we haven’t seen E.N.D.'s Etherious form. Like the others, I believe he has one. That could be what is sealed in the book. But it is clear that Igneel had a purpose for keeping E.N.D. sealed and there is an important reason for all this foreshadowing.

I’ve shown how the latest chapter actually built up E.N.D. rather than as people seem to assume knocked him down.

Mashima foreshadows for a reason. There is a purpose in everything he’s shown so far. If we assume E.N.D. is merely a power up for Natsu then we ignoring the clear facts of Zeref and Igneel and the possible ones for other characters. It's important to look at all of this. I still believe that E.N.D. is not a good thing and will be a perilous situation for Fairy Tail however he comes.

+

On final thoughts, I’d like to throw out a theory which I came up with while studying and analyzing everything regarding E.N.D. I won’t say its fact its just one of the many conclusions and idea I’ve had after my analysis…
Zeref might have found the need to separate E.N.D. and Natsu when he realized there were two conflicting natures inside of Natsu. Since all Etherious have their own natures and Natsu is the resurrected form of Zeref’s brother he's different from them. It is entirely possible for there to be two souls inside of one being. Natsu is a just a small boy there is no possible way he’d be able to handle this conflict. Hence, why Zeref could have separated them.

Since most Etherious are reverted back to their book form rather than living side by side with their book it is entirely possible that E.N.D. is the Etherious half of Natsu that Zeref or Igneel one day sealed in the book.

It's also possible that Natsu and Igneel were brought together by Zeref before the fire dragon even attempted to go after E.N.D. if this did happen. Igneel might have learned when he was attempting to kill E.N.D. that he couldn’t kill him before the Etherious is connected to Natsu and it would result in the death of Natsu.

This would explain why Zeref says that Igneel loved Natsu because by then he’d already developed a parental bond with the boy. Love is something that shouldn’t be expected to happen right away and the fact Zeref affirms this as the reason Igneel couldn’t kill Natsu to me says that there had to be a connection before E.N.D. We’ve always assumed that E.N.D. was the first Igneel meet, but I’m starting to believe that it was Natsu.

So maybe in the future, we’ll see E.N.D. resurrected as a separate being rather than Natsu directly. Or he’ll overpower and take over Natsu be still be a separate creature inside of him.

+

Final Thoughts

Anywho there is many possibilities how E.N.D. will appear. I just stated a few in my analysis/theory.

Also, can we appreciate the genius of how every time Hiro Mashima has been reuniting the Dragneel Brothers Zeref reveals a bit more about the truth of Natsu and E.N.D. It is clearly intentional and when you approach it like I do you can see the clear connection.

Let’s never forget that Mashima has a purpose in everything going on. It might look like plot holes, but I do believe he’ll eventually explain it all. Also, think back on Wendy and Natsu’s connection foreshadowed before they met. We now indeed know that is true. So unless Hiro Mashima states otherwise every piece of text on E.N.D. presented so far is important in one way or another.

My main gripe with END right now is him being actually a demon. IIRC zeref referred to etherius as beings made out entire out of magic, of ether. However that does not necessarily imply all etherius are necessarily demons. Basically the tartarus etherius would be demons because zeref specifically made demons. However if he had wanted to make say, those frogs we see around every now and then, he would have made etherius frogs. Basically, etherius would be made after living creatures zref was familiar with. FT verse has already shown a variety of actual demons after all, specially the ones at garuna island and the demons which mirajane takes over. In a way current natsu would be proof that etherius are not necessarily demons. Of course, his probable alter ego could be a demon made unintentionally in a way. Or it could be something which many called a demon but in turn really isn't. It'd be funny if it wasn't an actual demon and it wasn't vulnerable to demon slaying magic...

That was an interesting theory actually. I personally was thinking Natsu and END are different and separate entities. I still can not imagine how this will go. It'd be cool if END is Natsu's alter ego, just like Jekyll and Hyde. However, if END someday will be a real threat, I wonder who will overcome him. Natsu himself, or Gray, or Lucy, dunno.

I personally think (as I'm sure many others have) that E.N.D is either a repressed personality OR a transformation form OR both. I'm leaning towards him being both and I wonder how Natsu will undergo that change. Perhaps it will come about when a loved one is killed or Zeref tries to open the book.

This a very controversial topic to be honest. It takes lot of courage to do this topic.I know this may rise a shitstorm. But i have a request to all of you don't do that.I have tried to figure out how the fight against END may turn.I have done this based on many images, foreshadowings and hints. My theory may turn completely wrong. You may have theory different from my own.Everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
Gray has Ice Devil Slayer Magic to take down END.But i believe Ice Devil Slaying Magic will not be enough. Why?Because Gray has developed some secret technique to take down END.

If Ice Devil Slaying Magic would have been enough then Hiro would not have given Hiro Secret Technique.Gray will first use Ice Devil Slaying Magic but when it will fail he will use his technique.Whether his technique will succeed or not is upto Hiro.
But what will happen next?We have to understand what IDES Magic is?It is for slaying or defeating Demon. It Cannot save Natsu.
That is where Lucy comes in.She will snap Natsu out of this may be through One Magic Love.Hiro has said more Romance will feature in Fairytail.

May be Lucy will hug Natsu or even kiss her to snap out of it.This will lead Natsu to figh mentally fight END in his mental world.

Then Natsu will defeat END mentally.Igneel had hinted like this.

This is how the fight may go on.Lucy has the power to save Natsu from death. What is Ankhseram?God of Life and Death. What is the meaning of Ankh?Ankh is the Key worn by Egyptian Gods and Goddesses on their right hand's palm. And who wears Fairytail Symbol on her right hand's palm? The Answer is Lucy.Lucy may gain the Key Of Life And Death and save Natsu through this.

It's highly possible that Lucy will save Natsu in some way through the One Magic, which Lucy interpreted as meaning love. I'm not sure how well this would go over with other readers but I genuinely think that if Natsu loses control as END, then Lucy will be using the One Magic to bring him back to his sense. It feels somewhat foreshadowed but I could be very wrong.

Subjective
How is it subjective? o.o He's clearly more important to the series than Wendy and Laxus. Heck before Eileen's mention by Neinhart, Gray was more important than the plot than Erza, and arguably is still more important than her by a fair margin after mention of Eileen.

Other magic different than one magic , It has been foreshadowed that Lucy will be the one who use this one magic.
You just said it yourself. Expect the unexpected. Lucy was not foreshadowed to obtain one magic. She was just confirmed to mention it.
Besides I'm following your logic when you wrote something that is very unexpected with "Erza receiving new powers to fight END" ;)

Erza will fight END with Gray whether with or without new magic.

Erza will fight END with Gray whether with or without new magic.
She will support him with words, her magic would be useless against END. Gray will be the primary damage dealer and garner the most relevance in the fight with the constant amount of foreshadowing Hiro has shown us and Gray's constant history with demons with END being the strongest demon.

I don't think Erza will take part at all. I think the fight will be isolated to just Gray and Natsu so they can go to town on each other without worrying about collateral damage incurred on their fellow guild members. If E.N.D. is a repressed personality, Natsu might not care at that point but Gray would. I also think that it will mostly be about Gray trying to snap Natsu out of his rampage, rather than a revenge fight for his father as that would make the most sense for the fight to ensue while still fitting Gray's character as I don't think he'd fight Natsu if he wasn't a threat just because he found out about the origins of E.N.D.

The question is... what will trigger this berserking rage from Natsu?

I feel like it'll mostly be about the Fairy Tail guild and other guilds attempting to reason with him more than anything. Gray would definitely go the "I'mma beat the demon out of him" route, and maybe Erza too. I'm not quite sure where Erza falls in as she portrayed as an older sister like figure. I think she'll fight, but maybe be more focused on getting a response out of E.N.D rather than going full out. Lucy will be using everything she's got but I wonder what Happy will do.

Probably bribe E.N.D with fish and friendship....but mostly friendship

Nah,

Devil Force Gray will be the primary damage dealer (as you stated)
Lucy will be the word dealer
If Erza's involved idk, maybe she'll use the power of friendship, she's pretty good at that

Maybe! But wouldn't that defeat the purpose of Zeref using his little brother's body in the first place? I know there are many counter-arguments, but I feel like the simple alter-ego is the way Mashima's gonna go. He'll have Natsu lose control and be evil, they'll defeat him, he'll gain control over his powers, and then Mashima will continue the story through Zonia and Ankhseram or something, since apparently he wants to continue Fairy Tail
