Just wanted to share some impression I had when I first read Rayleigh and Roger's meeting. Don't you think Oda gave Roger a Chistian figure in its manga? I drew the list of parallels between Roger and Jesus'life.
ROGER MEETS RAYLEIGH
Roger found Rayleigh on his boat and decided to get him into a great adventure to change the world. Rayleigh first refused Roger's proposition but eventually ended up as his first nakama and Vice-Captain of the Roger Pirates.

JESUS MEETS PETER
Jesus came to Peter's boat and asked him to come with him. Peter first rejected Jesus, then accepted to become his first disciple after Jesus convinced him to become a "fisher of man". He ended up the first pope of Christianity. See the

ROGER GATHERED PEOPLE FOR HIS FINAL ADVENTURE
Roger gathered a pirate crew to follow him in his final adventure through Grand Line. He recruited Shanks, Buggy and Crocus for his final journey which lasted 3 years.
JESUS GATHERED PEOPLE FOR HIS FINAL WORK
Jesus gathered 12 main disciples to follow him during his preachment through Palestine. His preachment lasted 3 months.
ROGER IS CALLED THE KING OF PIRATES
After Roger made it through the Grand Line, he began to be called the King of Pirates by people.
JESUS IS CALLED THE KING OF JEWS
After Jesus finished his preachment, he was called the King of Jews by the Romans.
ROGER TALKED ABOUT ONE PIECE
As he died, Roger told the world about One Piece, something he made during his last year and left to be found. Pirates believe in One Piece and look after it, even if there is no proof it really exists.
JESUS TALKED ABOUT THE KINGDOM
Jesus talked about the Kingdom during his last 3 months, something to be found by people. Christians are looking for the Kingdom, even if there is no proof it really exists.
ROGER IS EXECUTED
Roger gave himself to the Marines, in order to make his final speech and make people search for the One Piece. The Marines and the World Government finally took him down.
JESUS IS EXECUTED
Jesus sacrified himself, he let the soldiers of the Temple capture him, in order to be immolated and save people from their sins. The Temple Priests and Herode finally took him down.
ROGER SAID HE WOULD NOT DIE
Last time Roger and Rayleigh met, long after he disbanded the crew, he told his oldest nakama he would not die. Then he was executed in Logue Town.
JESUS SAID TO BE ALIVE
Jesus rose from the dead the third day after his execution.
ROGER CREATED THE GOLDEN AGE OF PIRATES
Roger changed the world by creating the golden age of pirates. He turned a lot of people from the Four Blues into pirates through his death speech.
JESUS CREATED THE CHRISTIAN AGE
Roger created the Christian age thanks to his doings. He turnt a lot people from various nations into God believers.
PIRATES ARE PERSECUTED BY THE WORLD GOVERNMENT
Those who believe in Roger's legacy and are looking for One Piece are persecuted by the World Government. They are to be captured or killed as state threats and unlaws. Akainu wants to kill all pirates gathered in New World.
CHRISTIAN WERE PERSECUTED BY THE ROMAN EMPIRE
Christians were persecuted by the the High Priests and Roman Empire who called them blashphemers and sects.
