No there seems to be a misconception here. Even if Wahl is down for the count after this chapter, dead or alive, I still rank him way higher than Ajeel as per my original listing. A battle doesn't prove who is stronger, you have to look at the logic behind it.
Take this for example. Ajeel fought Erza in a 1v1, but that was the only thing he had to do, focus on Erza.
Wahl on the other hand was focusing on taking down the Jutsu Shiki, not obliterating FT. It was a fluke that Wahl was beaten if he actually was. Ajeel was ready for Erza's attack, but Wahl wasn't ready for a sudden attack by Freed and Ichiya.
Freed was supposed to be stuck in his position because Natsu and Gajeel and Wendy hadn't taken out the Western Front. Wahl had no idea that Natsu, Gajeel, and Wendy had defeated the Western Front AND use Warren's telepathy to relay the message over to Freed.
Therefore, Wahl had no way to know that Freed was eventually free to move around, since he assumed Freed was stuck in that place to keep the Jutsu Shiki up. And of course, at that point blank and a burst shot, Freed and Ichiya could easily rip Wahl to shreds.
Had Wahl anticipated the fluke of Ajeel's squadron on the Western Front and the capability for FT to relay the message through telepathy, Wahl wouldn't have been beaten.
In my opinion, under neutralize circumstances, Wahl could even rival Laxus himself.
