I don't agree at all with this dawg @SaberToothFan, then again it's alot of text and I haven't finished reading it but Irene flat out did the best thing for Alvarez, I don't see how this is a bad thing for them... they have/going to have FH in their possession, isn't that the whole point of the war?

Nice post @SaberToothFan

I agree on a few of the points you made. U1 was a bit of a gamble, and there were some losses that you outlined.

But by a far margin the main benefits of U1 outweigh any losses. They now have FH in their hands and Acnologia displaced (though this is BS if you ask me, the guy can fly at continent distances in seconds). Zeref seems happy with the outcome, though I still think August was right to question such actions from someone with a lower rank like Irene.

I will say that their 'formation' so far seems to be okay. Putting the weaker Historia's out front along with a few Spriggans + 1million fodders seems like a reasonable plan. I'm not big on war strategies, but their goal is to defend more than attack. So they don't need to be aggressive, they should have the superior force. If they can hold back the big trump cards like August until the right time, then it's a benefit for Zeref I would imagine.

The front line seems to be Ajeel, Jacob, Historia's. After that the 'second line' would be Invel, DiMaria, Neinhart, and Brandish. Invel has made his move after witnessing FT moving forward. Neinhart is going to be forced out of formation thanks to Irene. Depending on what else goes on, August and Irene would stay out of it until necessary. Gildarts is going on a bit of a rampage right now, and I wouldn't be surprised if August goes out to stop him.

I imagine Zeref will have Larcade held back until Acnologia shows up. But he did send Larcade North to fight, so it's possible that Larcade does fight with the rest of the 12.

One of the first things that struck me about Universe One was what a tactical blunder it was, they've gone from having overwhelming strength and numbers on all fronts to... being condensed in one place.
This isn't such a problem, think about it, when they were separated before, they had time to strategize, regroup and even provide back up in time to fight the Spriggan 12, but with them so close, it isn't that possible anymore....the Spriggan 12 individually are already tonnes stronger than the mages from Ishgar so in a sense Eileen is eliminating Ishgar's options for victory
Had they stayed on all four fronts Ishgar would have had to pull back due to resources and manpower
Quite the opposite, Ishgar was already winning the war since the South had already defeated the Spriggan 12, so it was just a matter of time before the North would get backup from the mages in the South who could still fight (Jellal and Meredy), plus the Crime Sorciere members were already heading up there already showed signs that the North was also going to win, that was the only section left out of the four fronts that hadn't been decided a victor yet..

Zeref seems happy with the outcome
And Irene seems unhappy cause there was no spanking :blush

Exactly Irene have achieves her main goals from the story point her casting UO was am excellent point for Alvarez .
We have bigger knowledge than Irene and can discuss it that she also did favours fo Ishgar but she couldn't now that casting UO will save already dragged in Gajeel or Natsu and co from August.
Considering the information Irene had and Alvarez goal it was brilliant move :zomg:^_^

@SaberToothFan
There is also a matter of Tenrou tree that will also work for FT if it's magic reach them ( dunno how UO have connect it with Fiore :P)
And as for strategic I see no problem with Historia going to Frontlines they are meat just like soldiers but there is matter or Invel joins before August and rest we will see if Invel goes down = complications in extractions of FH than i can say that Spriggans were dumb in matter of tactics..

Edit: I'm the only one thinking that August have bigger chances to live up for his name than Irene ? :whistle
August may face : Gildarts , Laxus , Makarov ,Jellal maybe someone else
Irene will face : Erza ( i don't buy she is 100 % fit ) , maybe Jellal , CS ( and not all Angel and Cobra may be out of this one )
I don't count Minerva and Mira for Irene cause they are busy fighting and Mira is worn out anyway and Natsu and co will have they own events Zeref/Bandish and Dimaria drama
I hope both of them get some wizards to fight and live up for their names ( give me one battle Hades ver. 2 :fan ) :hurr

facts.. Irene even admitted that this was the first time she used it, so no question it was a gamble. The gains outweigh any losses by far. She would have no idea what August and Brandish were doing, but she did know Bloodman was in battle already but not the outcome, so impossible for her to know every little detail. Universe One did exactly what she wanted it do: get Zeref to Mavis and Acno in the ocean. If/when FH is out of Mavis this discussion is moot, it's been said hella times no one can stop Zeref if he has FH so everything else really doesn't matter. Still a good post though fam @SaberToothFan

So I was just thinking about Irene and Universe One and realized that Irene has basically lost Zeref the war by casting UO. Now before you guys try and lynch me, let me explain, I assure you that I've made sure to cover my bases on this, though on the off-chance that I am wrong I will gladly take this back. This being said, I'll explain:

1. Strategic POV

One of the first things that struck me about Universe One was what a tactical blunder it was, they've gone from having overwhelming strength and numbers on all fronts to... being condensed in one place. While I know that this wasn't the main reason Irene transported everyone, it's still a massive mistake, now they are surrounded and their fodder is being wiped out by the powerhouses on Ishgar's side. Had they stayed on all four fronts Ishgar would have had to pull back due to resources and manpower and their power would have converged, with the end result being a final offensive on the FT guild by Zeref, August, Irene (I'll explain this bit later), the rest of the S12 and all of their fodder. There would be no way that Ishgar could have pulled that back.

Another small point I'd like to add is that the Spriggan's suck at defense, instead of sending out beasts like DiMaria and August to wipe out the attackers before they get close who do they send out? Historias! It's genuinely confusing, if the Spriggans have stopped messing around now then why isn't Lessio acting like an assassin and wiping out small groups and why isn't DiMaria out there massacring groups via Age Seal? Contrary to this, the Spriggans were a force to be reckoned with on offence (even when not serious), Ishgar was being pushed back on all sides but one, and the one front that was pushed back was caused by the Spriggans not working together and two notable powerhouses showed up. On the fronts where Spriggans were cooperating (North and East) they were destroying Ishgar, with the Eastern group wiping out an entire country and the Northern group wiping out and capturing two powerful guilds.

2. Circumstances

To be honest this one is hard to judge when looking at Irene but the second you look past Irene it becomes clear that Alvarez would be much better off without Universe One being cast given the circumstances at the time. What are these circumstances? Well:

- Mest making Brandish stab August and August putting her to sleep.
- August "vs" Natsu, Lucy, Mest and Happy
- Gajeel vs Bradman (or Bloodman) aftermath

So I'll start off with the first two as they are potentially the biggest mistakes that the casting Universe One made. At the time of Universe One being cast August had just cast his nuke at Natsu and co. Now this doesn't seem like it would be a big deal but it is a huge deal. Had Universe One not being cast we can say that Natsu likely would have died right there as while he partially negated August's first attack, the next attack would almost certainly have killed him. I don't think I really need to explain why this is a massive deal but I'll go ahead anyway, Natsu is (as much as I dislike him) one of the few powerhouses that Ishgar has, had August been able to kill him right then and there then Ishgar would have lost a very powerful asset and it would have been a big blow to the morale of Ishgar. On top of this Lucy would have been killed too and that would likely make Brandish return to the war a certainty as she'd have no one she owes on Ishgar's side whilst she is evidently close to August and DiMaria. So on top of Ishgar losing two big threats, Alvarez would have gained another Spriggan, a hax one too.

As for the final circumstance, this is lesser in a way but still a big point. Had Universe One not been cast then Ishgar would have lost Gajeel (another potential threat and powerhouse) and Alvarez wouldn't have lost a Spriggan for nothing. On top of that it would have been a huge morale loss for Ishgar and Fairy Tail.

Just as a disclaimer for this section, I'm not blaming this entirely on Irene as she could not have known the circumstances going on but these are still circumstances that Universe One changed and thus she does have some responsibility for them.

3. The Goal and if the trade offs were worth it

Now the goal of Universe One was technically two fold. The first goal of Universe One was to get Zeref to Fairy Heart. While this is technically achieved it is at a much greater cost, Zeref likely could've got Fairy Heart without Universe One without:

a) Sparing so many key players for Ishgar
b) Sacrificing the tactical advantage

The only trade off would have been that it would have taken longer however I don't see that as an issue as the defense of Ishgar likely wouldn't have held for another few days (at the most):

1) August and Brandish could advance from the negotiation point going straight to the FT guild.
2) The North group could crush the Ishgar forces in the North and advance, Irene could likely fly part of the way.
3) The West group could easily advance, they have Zeref and Invel.
4) They don't need to capture the South right away.
5) With Natsu, Lucy and Gajeel dead the Ishgar morale would be at a low and they would be weak due to Jellal and Gildarts (who might not even have arrived) being the only battle ready powerhouses.
6) Even if Ishgar moved it's forces to protect the guild they would likely create a soft point in the South where Alvarez could just conquer and regain DiMaria.

With the above being said I think it's obvious that the cons far outweigh the pros, the Ishgar defense likely couldn't hold out for more than a day if they all made a push at once.

The second goal of Universe One was to get Acnologia out of the way and this is the the only part where I feel Irene was successful. This being said she sacrificed all of the above in exchange for this so I'd be hesitant to say if it was worth it as we can't really say if he would have damaged Alvarez that badly, if anything he would have wrecked havoc on the Ishgar forces by killing power houses. This could actually have benefited Alvarez too as it would mean the defensive forces would be getting weaker and weaker lowering the time it would take to get to the FT guild. All in all I won't say whether this was a success or not as the consequences of Acnologia's actions are hard to predict, especially in regards to any benefits Alvarez would feel.

Last point

With all of this being said, I'm not sure whether I would put the blame on Irene or not as she had to account for something very unpredictable: Acnologia. While it is true that she started the battle with Acnologia, in which she used Universe One, it's hard to see what else she could have done as Acnologia has had a tendency to wipe out vast groups of people (e.g Tenrou, likely attempted at Tartaros) but he has also shown up in person and just wiped his target out (God Serena). If I had to say I feel she should have waited to see what Acnologia would do but it is tough due to how unpredictable he is.

Edit: I won't be replying today, this post almost came out as gibberish tbh so I'm leaving it for today.

Too many writers follow the "safe" formula. Just like u said, instead of sending out springgan members, historias are being sent out because there is no logical way for fairy tail to even beat them. The storyline would be much better if there were deaths on the good side too such as gajeel, levy, and wendy and carla.

It's about time we resurrect this topic. This discussion goes way back:

Back when the chapter about Universe One just got released, I stated that Irene made a stupid move for using Universe One... and I took a lot of heat for it.

To this day, I still don't take back my words for what I said.

It was completely unnecessary for Irene to use that spell. Her ignorance and ego caused Alvarez to be in a worse position than it already was.

And I will explain why Irene's use of Universe One caused far greater disadvantages than benefits for Zeref and the Spriggans:

1. Zeref and the Spriggans were in no rush to get Fairy Heart.

It's not like time was becoming a problem for Alvarez... and nobody was competing against them for it.

Fairy Tail's sole purpose was to defend it, not obtain or use it.

And Acnologia doesn't give a crap about it. That black dragon doesn't need some crystal to win his own battles.

2. The Spriggans actually had the upper hand before Irene used Universe One.

August was about to obliterate Natsu, Mest, Lucy, and Happy. But that group was saved thanks to Universe One.

Bloodman was about to kill Gajeel. But now the real Bloodman died in vain.

3. Acnologia

Here is where most of you forgot an important detail...

Saying that Acnologia being displaced is a good thing is BS.

Acnologia was solely going after the dragon slayers first. He was not aiming for anybody else in the war unless they were a dragon slayer.

But here's the kicker:

All of the dragon slayers left in the war were on Ishgar's side.

Having Acnologia close by to the entire war would actually be beneficial to Alvarez because Acnologia would be killing off people like Natsu, Laxus, Cobra, Gajeel, etc.

The only dragon slayer that was on Alvarez's side was God Serena, but Acnologia already killed him, so it was already too late for that dude.

But instead, look at what happened:

Irene used Universe One and transported Acnologia "far away".

Not only did she just piss Acnologia off, but she gave Acnologia a reason to have a grudge against Zeref and the Spriggans.

Now, instead of going after the dragon slayers, Acnologia is justified for hunting down Alvarez's asses.

At least, that's what I would do if I was Acnologia.

I'd teach that witch a lesson not to f*ck around with the Black Dragon of the Apocalypse.

To make it worse, now you have powerful mages (Natsu, Gray, Gildartz, etc.) heading straight for the guild.

Now, Irene has to race against time to extract FH quick enough before Fairy Tail arrives to save Mavis.

Time wouldn't have been an issue for Irene if she just waited it out.

Considering it was all her fault in the first place, I can only hope Irene gets what she deserves.

Here is part 2: The Lonely Nation Destroyer

@Brandish was depicted as a rebellious girl in the beginning of Albareth arc. She was an avenger.

Have you ever thought of what she was feeling during her whole life?

She had a peaceful family. She lived with her mother, Grammi (her father is unknown), peacefully.

Until everything changed..... An unexpected incident happened. Her mother was brutally killed by Zoldeo, another Layla Heartfilia's servant, just because of a misunderstanding......

Can you imagine how lonely she was? She was left alone by her mother, alone in an empty house, waiting for her mother and hoping her mother brings souvenirs from Ishgar...... Her mother made a promise to Layla, to bring her along to Ishgar, without her knowing.................... An unfulfilled mother's promise...

Randi is a lonely Spriggan. Randi is a lonely Nation Destroyer.

[to be continued]

Next part: Brandish's Style

Nice post i would love to find out more about Brandish herself in her backstory anyway only i saw similarities in both Kagura and Brandish backstory
And later that shit hit her
She was wandering for 9 years just to find out her brother is dead to later find out that her hate wasn't accurate at the person it should be (Well imo it was :P)
These girls should meet ( Make out ) at some point in the story ( My dreamed Brotp :x3)

What in next part Brandish love towards sweets :teehee ?
Edit : also it's pretty obvious Brandish will stay in Ishgar because Mango Gelato will be reopened here :gigglebunny

I am wondering. Which Spriggan name (full name) do you like/dislike the most? Neinhart? Wall Eehto? August? Bloodman?

Also:
  • Which Spriggan first name do you like/dislike the most?
  • Which Spriggan surname do you like/dislike the most?
For first name category, I like August, Invel, Brandish, Irene and DiMaria the most. August sounds badass and elite. Invel because there is a V in his name, which makes it cool. Brandish sounds girly and sweet to me. Irene because I pronounce it just like its Japanese name is pronounced (I pronounce it "Airin"). DiMaria sounds like ancient Greece/Roman/female warrior, which fits her title "The Valkyrie". I dislike Ajeel and Larcade. Ajeel sounds uncreative (short version of Gajeel). Larcade sounds weird.

For surname category, I find μ pretty unique. I dislike Belserion and Yura. Belserion sounds too long. Yura sounds like Jura (Jura Neekis), which makes it sound uncreative.

For full name category, I like Jacob Lessio and DiMaria Yesta the most. Jacob Lessio sounds like executive, which fits his appearance. DiMaria Yesta sounds neat. I dislike God Serena, it sounds arrogant.

I like Brandish's full name, it sounds girly and sexy while Dimaria's sounds rough and royal. I like Ajeel's name for some reason too. It's funny, Ajeel means quick in Arabic and Ramal means sand so his name literally means "quicksand" :facepalm

Yup. Ajeel in Arabic is عاجل and means quick/fast/rapid/speedy. Raml in Arabic is رمل and means sand. His name fits his speed: he dodged most of Erza's slashes very easily. He was swift.

@DiMaria Yesta God Serena is the title of the first wizard saint in Ishgar. It was revealed in one of Fairytail volumes.
Oh really? Didn't know that. Thanks btw. Then that set me wonder, what is his real name? Also could you provide the source?

I think my favorite first name among the Spriggan 12 is probably Wahl or Larcade, it's definitely one of the more creative ones. My least favorite is probably Bradman....it sounds...meh
My favorite surname is Yesta......Least favorite is Yura, it feels a little unnecessary

A better defense is a greater offense :p. It was greater for Fairy Tail to come to the Shields rather than the Shields doing the four side attack as seen with the battle of Hargeon (FT over came the odds in that battle bcs they were packing a heavy duty assault team which overwhelmed the three Spriggan). Their vanguard team was practically dealt in the same way and Jacob was taken out. God Serena was murdered by Acnologia so he was out of the game too which I'm guessing Irene felt since she prepped her attack to stop from having Acnologia from interfering anymore. Bradman was killed by Gajeel. So 8 Spriggans were out of the game as they were dead or locked up. UO however gave each Spriggan that was captured another chance to fight again which reinforced Alvarez power again. They got 5 Spriggans back (Jacob, Ajeel, DiMaria, Neinhart, and Brandish) bcs of UO, that is some heavy duty artillery put back in their arsenal again. So UO did not only get Zeref quickly to their objective but also allowed other Spriggans to escape and regain their footing in this war. UO did far greater good than damage. If you still don't believe this to be good enough, I believe the final two reason why UO was way more good than bad will more than change your mind ;)
  1. :clingy:gaw
  2. :blush:hearts
I see there defense as pretty sound tbh. I feel like the placement is more like a Soccer match but instead of the S12 trying to score a goal they have to solely protect it. So the first thing they would do is fortify there defense with arguably the strongest members, then would have a mid field team that is supposed to protect the defense team and help the assualt team and last would be the there assualt team which is supposed to at least weaken the troops if not defeat them. I think Hiro is doing a good job portraying this.
Goal:
  • Irene (Stopping her)
  • Mavis (Fairy Heart)
Goalie:
  • Zeref
Defenders:
  • August
  • Larcade
  • DiMaria
Midfielders:
  • Invel
  • Brandish
  • Neinhart (Awakened?)
Fowards:
  • Jacob
  • Ajeel
  • Historia Serena
  • Historia Wall
  • Historia Bradman
For DiMaria not slaughtering everyone with Age Seal I personally think that stopping the flow of time would disrupt the process of extracting Fairy Heart. Either that or it's for the sake of the plot :grin

@Jko Great post, I do think that UO ultimately worked for the best (I've been thinking more about UO) but I do stand by the idea that they sacrificed a lot to make it happen.

The only part I disagree with is Spriggan offense vs Spriggan defense, on the two fronts they lost Spriggans on they would have been able to finish them off. In the North they had Irene and Larcade to continue the battle and with Gajeel gone they would have lolstomped the Ishgar forces. As for Hargeon I could see only one thing happening, the Ishgar forces try to rush up to counter (which would be a Spriggan victory due to August being near, with Brandish in tow). Keep in mind that Laxus would be knocked out and Erza is heavily injured so the only powerhouses that would be available would be Jellal and Gray. Even with them there they likely wouldn't be able to push past Alvarez's lines as at some point they would run into a Spriggan team, with a high chance of August being there. Further more Jellal and Gray would be the only powerhouses left in general as Gildarts might have taken more time to get there and Natsu would almost certainly have been killed by August. I would count the GoI as powerhouses but the community seems split on that.

In terms of their defense tactics, I'm muddled about this. I get the idea that the forwards are there just to weaken the new attackers but they would be outright obliterated had they put August, DiMaria, Invel and the Historias out there. Like you said though, this is likely due to plot. :smile-big

I don't why this just popped in my head but it's funny how the Spriggan Ladies hair colors are that of a traffic light :XD and it kind of resembles their personality.

Green = Brandish (She would let you Go bcs she's lazy af.)
Yellow = DiMaria (Get ready to Stop and be humiliated when you face her.)
Red = Irene (Stop and beg for your life bcs that's what you do in Irene's presence.)

Alvarez Queens must be handling all that traffic back in Alvarez :D
