Hey, what are you studying Pazuzu? Are you going to like translation for a living, or something involving languages? I'd like to do that. I should become your apprentice. XD

No, you'd make him do chores so you can just concentrate on translating.

Meh, just making a random reference to medieval times. I didn't realize how weird that would probably be now a days. XD

So Pazzy, how exactly will things work when you are done though? Will you translate and publish novels? Translate manga? What exactly will you end up doing, and what career posibilities are there? :sweatdrop

Paz, we are so much alike, still so different... I really want to get to know you! If only I could come to Ireland on vacation :tem

i) Do you like the high pitched voice of the Japanese girls?
ii) Are you jealous of the ridiculously deep voice black and japanese men often have (at least in TV and anime they do :sweat )
iii) Do you like the way Japanese girls cut their hair?
iv) Tell us a title or two of books you really like :tem
v) Do you have a top 10 "got to get" list of books?
vi) Do you ever get tired of this thread?
vii) Do you ever get tired of inane and translating?
viii) Do you ever get tired of me and my hollow questions that are there "to break the ice"?
ix) Do I talk a lot?

No idea. That's for Then. I'm trying as hard as I can not to think about Then, because then I start to worry about the bad things. XD
But I'd love to translate stuff like novels/manga, or possibly video games, since I've already had experience in both.
Translating Naruto officially would be amazing, but it'd be a double-edged sword in that I'd have to see my translation hacked to bits in the adaptation process. Nothing makes a translator cry more than seeing their baby attacked with Adapt no Jutsu.

A friend called Suzaku, he posts rarely over at NF. He got me into it hugely. No idea how far back though.

ix) Do I talk a lot?
i) No. NO. It drills holes RIGHT through my head.
ii) Often, yeah. But I don't think a voice like that would suit how I look. It seems to be required though, if you want to speak Japanese like a native.
iii) I dunno, there's loads of different styles.
iv) The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett is my absolute favourite series of books ever. Close second is the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman.
v) Not at the moment. It's usually just "the new Discworld book". Although I've been getting into the .hack books lately.
vi) Never. I love this thread.
vii) Like I mentioned above, during the Sasori fight I was in a slump. But I've never really gotten tired of it to a point where I'd consider giving it up.
viii) NEVAR!
ix) Pff. You say NOTHING compared to some people I talk to.

I saw Suzaku over at the KHII Ultimania Forums! He was all like translations from my friend Pazuzu! And I was like "OMGMGSDfmdsdgioajeipeojasdFPAZuzuloff". :nuts

Knowing so many languages, do you ever mix them up? Say I want to be a translator or whatever. How should I go about it? Like what courses to take, and all that.

I post at KHU too. o.0 Not much, though.

And yeah, I mix them up ALL the time. You wouldn't believe it. Irish and Japanese the most, with German bodyslamming in a lot too. Since there's things that one language has a word for and one doesn't, you're really tempted to use one, even if other people don't know it.
My head is a battlefield.

For translation, I'd say go for a course that has some sort of focus on translation, but a major focus on the language itself. Like, you need to learn the language, but you also need the skills you can get from learning translation formally.
And do work on your own. Read stuff in the language. Play a video game or something in it. Best way to absorb new vocab and stuff is to be doing something you're enjoying.

I only have like one post at KHU. XD

When did you start learning all of these languages? Did you teach yourself any of them?

Did you beat KHII yet?

Sorry that I'm asking so many questions. Thanks for answering them all.

I think I have the first book of the Discworld series lying around somewhere in my house, Color of Magic.  I really ought to get around to reading it.

I was pretty surprised by the full release of volume 32, how you guys did it so quick!

Hope this question doesn't offend, but I was wondering how much work Inane and Narutard does respectively, what/how much credit goes to each for the whole Volume 32 release?

From what I've seen, it's pretty good teamwork one way or another, though. :thumbs

What are the Discworld books like? I've played Discworld II: Missing Presumed..?! and Discworld noir on PSX (never beat the first 'cause the CD wasn't mine, then it was given to me, but now I don't have a save and don't remember where the CD is). If the books are anything like utter craziness of the game then I must have them! :tem Seriously though, if Rincewind and Luggage are in them... :spaz

The "His Dark Materials" trilogy was translated "Trilogy of the World" in Greek, so that's why I had such a bad time explaining to foreigners what books I was talking about. "Northern Lights" was translated as "Northern Star" which totally butchers the title since the first is directly connected to the story, whiel the latter is just a romantic sounding title in Greek... Anyway, the books are fantastic, my friends in Kavala would tell you I was walking around my house or any part of the city for that matter carrying one of those till I finished it!! The ending had me crying for hours and punching stuff in the house, while I was sad for three days (an all time record for me)... Maybe I should consider buying the books in english :tem

EDIT/ Guess I don't talk a lot in this thread, and not many threads around the place are structured in a way that would require a large post. Not that this is a bad thing, it helps keep a fast pace around the forum. Then again, I live for threads that give you a lot of food for though and in turn motivate you to say a alot.
Have always admired laconic speach, will never adopt it :tem

Irish and English are my native languages.
I picked up Spanish from having Spanish au pairs and being in Barcelona a lot when I was younger, but lack of use has made it go bye-bye.
I did French for 4 years in school.
I did German for 7 years, 6 in school and 1 in college.
Japanese...uh...what did I say before, 8 years? Began self-taught, worked into formal teaching and through exposure.
Chinese I've started studying through Pimsleur, but I'm still awful at it.

KHII, yup, on my second playthrough. Proud Mode a go-go!

Yes.
You must read it.
Really.

For volume 32, Narutotrad did the cleaning and Inane did the translation/typesetting. Except chapter 281, that was entirely Inane.

The Discworld books are absolutely amazing. Pratchett creates the most believable fantasy world ever because he never hesitates to point out it and its characters' shortcomings in the books, has realistic characters, and he's a master of human nature.
Rincewind is in...7 books so far. There's well over 30 released. Each book has a certain focus, like there's books about the Watch, books about Deah, books about Rincewind, books about the Witches, and totally independent books. The wizards usually show up in most of them, they're brilliant.
They're the most fantastic, and most hilarious books in existence. It's a happy mix of subtle humour and outrageous humour, though it's mostly through the characters' speech an actions, it's the most natural humour I've seen.

Ah, I've only just started Italian. I'm gonna take that for four years, then see what I do in college.

What's Proud Mode? There are different modes? What's your rating on the game?

Ne'er tried Italian, though one of my Spanish friends' boyfriend is Italian, and quite insanely cheerful. Tis a really...singsong language. I'd love to be able to speak it.

There's 3 modes: Beginner Mode, Standard Mode and Proud Mode. I played Standard first time through, now I'm going for Proud.
I love the game. Absolutely love it. Must play. Definitely.

Pazuzu, at this thread we're talking about favorite jutsus and so on. Zenith mentioned Shunshin no Jutsu as being a favorite and Anax asked what it was. I thought it was Hiraishin no Jutsu so explained that. Then Zenith mentioned that it's different from Hiraishin, and I realized he was right, and checked on your Databook translation.

Was Rin mistaken when she thought what Yondaime was doing was the "Body Flicker" aka Shunshin no Jutsu, when it was actually Hiraishin no Jutsu? Thanks.

Yep, she was mistaken. I think Yondaime himself was the only one there who knew what it really was.
Obito, Rin and Kakashi were all "zomg kickass sensei" and the guy he teleported to...had a couple of other things in his mind. Like the fact that he wouldn't be worried for much longer.

I can't wait to play! I'm waiting for the US release though, because I don't have one of those emulator thingies to play the Asian games. I've actually never imported anything before. What was your favorite world to play? Favorite new/returning characters?

Does my ammount of questions annoy you? XD

Also, if I want to teach myself a language, do you have an opinion on which on I should do usling like online/free materials?
