Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

And now there's rumors of KnY not getting more seasons but instead continuing as only movies..
That would be interesting.

Edit: A KnY stage hasn't been confirmed for Jump Festa 2020 right?
Ufotable is probably pondering what to do with this literal once in a lifetime opportunity lol. I'd have expected a season 2 announcement after the movie premiered.. But nothing yet..

Kimetsu's having it's own anniversary event sometime in 2021, I believe. At this point, it's grown beyond anything that Jump Festa will be able to hold. It's a cultural phenomenon now, and it's probably going to be treated a such.

I'd have expected that as well, but I feel like it would be far better to get people to watch the movie right now and make ALL OF THE MONEY before announcing a second season.

I mean, even I thought of it.

Just from the sheer money they made from the first movie. They can continuously mint money from this via movies. Even if the popularity drops off, which it eventually will in the long run, it would still probably make more money than all other WSJ anime movies.

The only problem is if they take TOO long, interest will potentially drop faster. Attack On Titan suffered the same thing.

Seems like with anything related to Kimetsu, it's a matter of "when" and not "if".
What a true monster.

To think most of us here assumed it might just break OP's or DBZ movie records.
It wasn't all that long ago that we were arguing if the anime would push the manga sales above Black Clover level.

Technically, I said it can achieve 500k in sales. :mono

Damn I hope shueshia gives a statement about all this before the fiscal year ends. The mess they provoked last year was quite something.

Let's try reading them in order for a change.

MHA: Please don't tell me the wife is the villain's sister or something. That family has enough trouble as it is.

Bakugo has remembered what his character is supposed to be like and is trying to make us forget about what happened before. It doesn't work.

And then everything goes to shit (even more). Am I the only who is just about having enough of all this abject misery? I'm not usually against morally complex situations, but this here just makes me feel hopeless and tired, because you already know everyone is going to lose. (If that was the writer's intent, good job. But I don't generally read manga to feel miserable.)

Dr Stone: ... I don't like the new girl much. Pretty average chapter otherwise.

Mashle: Seriously? None of them figured that out? I mean, I liked the chapter, but seriously?

(And I guess this means Lance is still around? Since I'm pretty sure he knew about Mash' lack of magic.)

Black Clover: Why am I not surprised.

WNL: Hi there, reoccuring plot device. It's been a few chapters.

Yozakura: Not bad (though there's not that much new information). That last page looks especially impressive.

I'm curious about the little brother's age though. In the first chapter, I would have given him 6 or 7, but here he seems closer to 10-12.

UU: Did we ever learn how Andy can jump that high? The plot is moving fast, the villain is original, the new character is even crazier than I thought. Great stuff.

AT: One twist after another! I'm not as emotionally invested as I probably should have been, but I can't really find anything wrong with it either (it's cliche, but that's not a bad thing in itself. It's common because it works).

Me & Roboco: Is this the first time we see her without the knife? I liked the meta-humour, and the fact that the obligatory reference actually played a part in the plot this time.

Cop & Dolphin: Serious arc, then? I wouldn't mind, but it's so hard to know what to expect.

I'm really glad that second cop wasn't just a brainless lackey.

High School Family: That was actually pretty nice before the last page ruined it.

Phantom Seer: Nice spooky atmosphere. Nice fake-out. Would be more careful if I were you. I was annoyed when we cut away, but this is actually pretty interesting. Thank you, Iori. This might actually be my favourite series in the magazine right now.

Magu-chan: That's unrealistic. Pigeons don't have sharp claws to grab prey with. (Why does this bother me, and not the talking sentient animals? Hell if I know. Suspension of disbelief is weird.) The whole thing was pretty convoluted, but the ending was nice.

OBO: Okay? What was the point of all this? Nothing has changed and we didn't learn anything important. *notices the title* Ah. It's to foreshadow Alfred showing up. Great.

Btw, can anyone explain to me how little Alfred could slaughter an entire village without breaking a sweat, but his adult parents couldn't handle a simple housefire? Even if they are afraid of it, couldn't they just run away? How come half of the time these vampires are super powerful, and the other half they can't get past a locked door? Are they weak against wood, like the aliens from Signs?

Also, what the hell happened on M+ page 17? "Those who serve as restraints are working hard behind the scenes, attempting to hold them back will only perpetuate the same cycle"? That does not make any sense in the context of the conversation (or at all, really). Anyone know what he's really saying?

AB: ... Well, at least they're not acting like flighty obnoxious morons BECAUSE they are girls. Still pretty annoying though. (Poor Chris is gonna have an aneurysm.) It really is quite sad when the only good 'female' character in the series is a robot, even after you're switched the entire main cast.

Glad the other team was as exasperated as I was.

Moriking: How did they even know about Japan? How did the stag beetle know more? And how come there are only four candidates out of the entire rest of the world?

Regardless, that was actually quite funny. You can tell the author is having fun with this. In a way, it's probably liberating to know there are only a few chapters left.

(They should've translated Hoshiking though. It makes no sense to keep it in Japanese when they're already talking about the Forest King.)

Mashle: Couldn't you at least say Muscle Power? Like that way you could have Bs your way out by saying your magic spell is inside your body which is why that magical item didn't worked as it only works directly on spells. Also way too be thankless, dude in the background! Though the others are totally forgetting about twintails here who has just disappeared, so the gig is up anyway.
Doesn't the headmaster already know about it? Or at least suspects it? He seems pretty aware of what's going on in his school.

Am I the only one who feels the last 3 chapters of Phantom Seer have been REALLY similar to each other? There are times I legitimately think I'm reading last week's chapter, especially the parts where Riku is training with the Tengus. The art is gorgeous but I wish the writing was fleshed out a little more
The parts where Riku is training with the Tengus:

Chapter 9: 1/2 page
Chapter 10: 1 page
Chapter 11: 5 pages

I mean, I know this kind of thing is subjective, and I'm not trying to discount your feelings... but that's a really minor thing to focus on.

I don't think the story is repetitive (I'm actually really enjoying their banter), but I do hope the next arc will have a more interesting setting than 'dark hole in the ground.'

Even if they change it so that they don't get together immediately, I find it pretty hard to see Ao no Hako getting significantly messed up by serialization, since the characters both have respective goals going on in the background, if those get a bit more focus there can still be regular plot progression.
That would work for a few volumes, but not if they keep dragging it out forever.

And please don't turn it into a harem. Please.

For Ao no Hako:

I wouldn't mind if the main leads didn't get together immediately, as long as the story uses the time to establish personal goals unrelated to their relationship and build chemistry between the two in the process. That way, once the main characters do get together, the story can become more of a spokon as it focus on them pursuing their goals, using their relationship as a sort of tether to help them get through difficult situations of sorts. You can also have a few more couples and side characters be like this, if you wanna focus on the relationships and the drama.

And you were correct xD

One Piece is the best selling manga of 2020 After Kimetsu No Yaiba and Kingdom
Isn't Jujutsu kinda in track to beat One Piece though?

On a side note, it's gonna be a little bit underwhelming that next year we'll get both One Piece Chapter 1,000 and Volume 100 and the series is going to be in its worst sales since 2006.

Heck, due to KnY's last volume releasing on December (right?) there's virtually no chance of One Piece's volume 100 even being the biggest seller in the year, so Shueisha won't be able to promote it like that haha ..sigh :/

Edit: wow, so I just looked into One Piece volumes, I know Covid is a thing and Oda has been taking breaks but wow.. I never noticed this whole year only 2 volumes have been released, do we know if there's going to be a volume released on December?
They literally have the exact amount of chapters needed for a volume right now, so maybe not..

No, Jujutsu Kaisen won't beat One Piece, it would have to sell millions in two weeks to do so. About One Piece, If we're talking about the Oricon year then that's three volumes but yeah in 2020 only there's been only two. As for the other question, I talked about it in detail on another post so I'm just gonna copy paste it.

Here's the thing. According to Jump's plan, One Piece was supposed to release volume 98 on December, but it's not listed as a December release on Jump's site. Given that it only released enough chapters to fill said volume last week, it's safe to say it's delayed by at least a month or until the end of December, but Jump has already listed Spy x Family to be released at the end of December and there are no sings of One Piece 98 there so the chances of it still being released this year are lower. Besides that, there's already a list of January releases and One Piece 98 is still not listed there, increasing the chances of it being delayed by two months. Of course, it can still be added to January list, but it's not a surefire thing.

And this is where the most important part comes. If they delay a single volume by two months or end up delaying two volumes by one month each, One Piece won't be able to release 4 volumes since in Jump's original plan volume 100 was supposed to come out in July. By delaying it to as early as September would mean the following volume would only be released in December or later. There's a lot of factors here of course, but the chances of One Piece only releasing 3 volumes in 2021 only increase.

When was the last time we had 21 series for a few issues anyway? Not that we'll necessarily get it this time since Moriking could end in the next two issues, but it's possible.

We've had 19 series recently due to Act-age, and I think even had just 18 series for a few issues last year after Soma and Hinomaru Zumou ended, but it feels like ages since we've had 21 at one time aside from single issues where a series ends in the same issue a new manga starts.

When DS stops being news maybe we can stop talking about it. Hmm, on second thought, I don't think so. Well, Naruto, Dragon Ball and many more manga have ended but it is still necessary to talk about them.

Instead of asking us to stop talking about DS, maybe you should contribute a topic from another manga so that it can be continued. :D

Nothing is stopping you (or anyone else) from discussing those other series.

The discussion about KnY is about sales, which is literally the entire point of this thread.

Nope. Demon Slayer is literally breaking records and we are going to talk about it.
If you want to start an interesting new topic, go right ahead. I'm sure if its actually interesting, people will want to talk about it. Exorcism vs Gag is not an interesting topic, FYI.

No please
Honestly, I think from the looks of Build King, Toei might be the best studio for it.
Toei was also a decent studio for Toriko. They literally just made it for the wrong audience.
