Bad policy? how?

Yes, continue to lay his mistakes at the feet of the people advising him, and never hold him accountable for anything he does. As if he listens to every single bit of advice given to him and he has no agency himself.

Enough with with hydroxychloroquine, unless you can show any non-dubious individuals championing it despite all the evidence against it.

Those infected with corona are contagious before symptoms manifest.

When people feel sick and get tested its too late. They've wandered around being contagious for days and possibly already infected many others.

Breaking quarantine to test increases the likelihood of them infecting others. In some cases, people wait in lines for 4 hours to get tested. Its not a perfect process. In many cases people would be better served assuming they have the virus if they're ill, and avoiding human contact to prevent spreading it further.

I'll just say hydroxychloroquine is the best treatment. And time will tell. I remember back when many were thoroughly convinced Trump would be a disaster for the US economy. The media typically has people believing in things that aren't true.

That doesn't make testing bad policy though?? That means there needs to be better tests more widely used and more efficient processing of tests. Plus, this sort of thing varies from area to area. If you think you might have it and get a test, you are supposed to assume you could have it and quarantine anyways. Testing is good policy, and widespread, regular testing is the only way other countries have had success minimizing the spread. If some moron gets tested and goes right back to being in contact with people before getting results, that isn't an indictment on policy at all. There's also no clear picture of when people become contagious after being exposed themselves either.

What does there being no good science behind hydroxychloroquine have to do with pundits prognosticating the least fuck-up-able aspect of Trump's presidency? Most people always admitted that the only measurable shred of savvy he would have would be with the economy.

Why testing is bad policy.

Airport screenings increase the size and density of crowds, making it easier for the pandemic to propagate ^

People stand in lines for hours to be tested. You can see many have no masks ^ and would be better served staying home where they can't infect others or be infected if they don't have it.

...

Claiming that tests cure corona is like claiming AIDs can be eradicated through testing greater numbers of people.

That's not the way it works.

Testing itself is a avenue through which people can be infected in greater numbers.

...

Many if not all of Trump's advisors feed him bad info. Whether its "injecting UV disinfectants" or something else. He's always being fed bad information.

Testing is a bad policy.

Its not for his supporters.

Its on his advisors and industry experts feeding him bad info, as always.

Hydroxychloroquine and closing borders early were the only times he didn't receive bad information and advice.
Testing is only bad policy for trump because it shows the ineffectiveness of the policies him and his party has pushed for. No one whose opinion matters on the subject has ever made the point testing is bad policy nor has better or even equal alternatives been proposed. Literally every country that has succeeded in bringing down their curves has had extensive testing and contact tracing. Meanwhile the US continuously lags in their testing, to the point where the US had just about the most testing per capita but it still isn't enough, and contact tracing is non existent.

There are literally zero studies showing the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine to treat covid. This whole thing with hydroxychloroquine is so absurd trump began pushing it before studies on the issue could even exist....

And i am sure no advisor advised him injecting bleach inside the body....

I liked Kamala a lot more 3 years ago, but ever since the presidential bid, she seems a bit in-genuine... with lines like "i am running cos i love my country" but hey, its politics people do stuff like that...

But she is the most logical candidate for Biden, demographically speaking.... and considering that Biden is likely to be a 1 term president, her age will play a favor within the team too...

Its good to see a black woman as VP....

Who is claiming tests cure corona? The Trump administration might incorrectly think it's good enough to protect him, but that's just a lazy misrepresentation of the point of testing in the first place.

Woefully predictable and uninspired

Yep, harris might be from however many minorities and whatnot but that doesn't change she is just slightly less of a corporate hack than biden.... or the rest of the democrat establishment in general. I kinda wonder how much picking her will matter electorally. I feel like she won't matter too much but I guess we will see.

Question.

Does corona testing where people stand in line for hours increase or reduce the number of corona infections.

A case could be made for them increasing the number of infections, rather than the opposite. Which would make them counter productive.

I think by trying to prove a point you've cornered yourself here. How could anyone answer that question if there's no testing in the first place?

Where are there people standing in lines so congested that people can't wear masks or socially distance? Anything like that should be outdoors, drastically reducing risk as well. Many testing stations are drive-thru too, where you don't even get out of your vehicle or come into contact with other people. A case could be made about it increasing risk, yes. That is why those who are in vulnerable populations are told not to take that risk in the first place.

If testing is bad policy then how exactly does this virus get studied? Where is the data going to come from?

So you're okay with people getting coronavirus, spreading it to others, and more people dying because you don't like testing showing how incompetent Trump is?

It's for his supporters, that's obvious and clear. The way he says things, what he says, etc are structured in a way to rile up his supporters who don't care how bad his English is or how childish he comes across in his tweets.

Nope, it's not. It's on Trump, especially when he chooses to ignore the actual experts and make up his own bs or believe others' bs who know nothing about pandemics.

I remember back when many were thoroughly convinced Trump would be a disaster for the US economy. The media typically has people believing in things that aren't true.
And these many were proven true given the state of economy and even republicans' fears due to the virus. Our economy's frailty was proven.

I will admit that up until March, Trump does get credit for not screwing up Obama's great work on the economy.

Biden just picked his running mate? What do you guys think of her?
She's not popular among the further left of liberals, and it's tone-deaf to have chosen her... but they're still better than Trump, Pence, or their party, so whatever. I hope republicans choose an actual good candidate next time, I'd love to stop supporting Dems because Biden, Clinton, and Harris are just... horrible.

She is more moderate and that's her selling point... I actually disliked her when she first became the nominee because some of her progressive stands seem insincere and in some select cases makes her sound hypocritical or even fake... But they had to go with a colored candidate, and a woman and she fits the best in taking down the republicans...

I think if Trump loses, there will either be a big reform in the party, or libertarian party will becomae much stronger... I like the latter as a better outcome, its good to have a few more parties in stronger places cos this binary option is killing the democratic process.... Maybe green party gets the same on the left side too....

Still statistically, but its way better than what we would've thought earlier this year.... But rest assured, Biden will be a one term president, so Harris is likely to run in 2024.... Democrats can only screw up from here, which is what Trump can hope on.

Even without the pandemic I can't imagine biden not being favored to win. Trump has been historically unpopular from day one. I suppose trump has gotten slightly more unpopular over the pandemic but... it's still concerning that it is only by this much. The race as those numbers suggest will be close.... And screwing up is pretty much democrats modus operandi at this point. It's why a half senile gaffe machine is running...

Honestly, I don't even like how democrats handled the VP pick. From day one the rhetoric was about picking a women from a minority... But why frame this this way? Wouldn't it have been better to go with a more standard "We are looking at the best possible candidate" and then simply pick kamala? The look that they simply skipped over males to select kamala is just plain bad. representation is important and generally a good thing but the point should be that if someone in a minority is in a position its because said person was as good or better than none minority people. Now if kamala becomes VP it will have been due to a process where he didn't beat a single non minority male. Trump and republicans are unhinged lunatics but democrats are dumb...

Because they think it plays better to their base. That's the only reason they do anything. What you mentioned about it purely being about merit probably would have played well in the past, but times have changed. They couldn't afford to trot out another Tim Kaine and hope for the best.

The issue for me is that Harris basically comes off as a charlatan and what she supposedly supports is the exact opposite of her actions. And unlike Biden, most of that is recent stuff. Liberals still have this fascination with appealing to the moderate and Never-Trumpers. The reality is the latter are going to vote third party at worst, taking votes away from Trump most likely, so there's no reason to even try to appease them.

They definitely couldn't afford another tim kaine. But I find it amazing that their base, and kamala, would be ok with this rather than be straight up insulted by it. There are ultimately a ton of ways this could have been handled and they went with the one that made a public spectacle about out of only token brown females being considered.

That sounds about right for harris (pretty standard corporate hack) but selecting a token brown female to appeal to moderates and never trumpers is even dumber than the way they handled her being the VP pick. It's almost cute that they would think they'd support a brown person (let alone one from the other party). even their actual tim kaines are completely ineffective at that... That said, I am not sure I buy harris being an attempt to get moderate and never trumper votes. From their end of the political spectrum she probably still looks like a communist... It's biden's job to waste his time appealing to moderates and never trumpers. To me she looks more like a pick meant to appease progressives (which will fail because progressives actually care about policy and don't care about harris) and to appeal to the black vote that didn't turn up to vote for hillary. Which is why I think harris won't actually have much of an impact on the election in general, she serves to bring in votes which democrats probably already have or could win over more easily with actual policy.

I think Biden chose her more because she's a woman of color more than because she's a moderate... but then again, he could have gone with Ilhan or AOC so you're probably right.

I don't think that'll happen. If Trump loses his supporters will just riot and cause a shitstorm, but there won't be much change, if any.

Wait. Isn’t there an age minimum requirement for VP too? As far as I remember, AOC could clinch the Democratic ticket if she wasn’t hamstrung by the age requirement for presidency. I would assume this also applies to the VP position, right?

Google says 35, I didn't know it had an age limit. At least AOC can build up her resume.
