Feedback: MangaHelpers localization project!

+ posted by Nimloth in Site News on Feb 18, 2009 20:43

Greetings everyone,

Today, we have a small piece of very exciting news to share with you:

We can happily say that we have developed a system to localize the MangaHelpers website and all its menus and information (not editorial and forum posts) into any given language through our MangaHelpers Translation project.

It is in this regard that we are curious as to if any translators would be willing to provide a translation of terms for their language. Could even co-op. Be warned though, it is an extensive list!

We want everyone to feel at home and familiar on the website, and since our brilliant coder Osso decided to implement this during his "break", well - we figured we'd give it a shout and see what you thought.

One thing: the translation should be neutral? I mean, for example (my case xD), Spanish is a language spoken in Spain and in Latin America. Some words used in Spain aren't used in Latin America and viceversa; and even one word commonly used in Spain is a profane word in some parts of Latin America.

And I don't only mean that: also neutral in the meaning of not informal, but neither too formal (not a "-sama" nor a "-kun", more like a "-san"; if you understand it better like this), and that stuff.

Well, for reference we're talking about translating terms such as "My Forums", "Manga Database", "latest News Headlines", "Latest Site Releases" etc. As such the translations should be as close to the representing term as possible for all languages, including capitalization.

Hope that clarifies some :)

so, ummm - might sound a little impatient, but since the downtime wasn't done, does it still need to be for the upgrades, that lead to the localization? or in short: when will we start ^^'

This is really, really good idea. And I have so much free time. So, if you want, I can work on Czech translation. This could be really helpful, because I know about so many people who use our national not high-quality sources, just because they understand them better.
