MH Site Wide Translation Project - Sign up Here!

+ posted by njt in Site News on Mar 24, 2009 15:29

Even with the site update postponed we figured we would go ahead and get started on the whole site translation project seeing as it'll take a while for all of it to get translated into the various languages.

First off, I want to say thanks to all that volunteer to work on this project in advance seeing as it will be quite the daunting task.

Second, I want only those that plan on finishing this task to participate. We don't have a set time limit to have it done by but having it as soon as possible is appreciated.

And finally, third. We would like those that are very confident in both the language they are planning to translate into as well as English to apply. If you are unsure of what something is referring to check the site (since all text pretty much comes from it) or send me a message asking for clarification.

This project will use a .csv file with around 1000 lines of text (It's quite massive), so again, thanks for being willing to take part in this.

Just post in here with questions, comments and what language you want to translate and I'll get in touch with you.

With that said, let's get to work :D.

Have you shown your appreciation today? Click the thanks button or write your appreciation below!

I would have been more then happy to help out translating it into finnish, but due to my current free time, I highly doubt that I could get 1000 lines in a reasonable time =/

Anyways, looking forward for this ;)

Well I can help you guys with the translation to Brazilian Portuguese. I don't have too much of free time, but since you said u are not in a hurry, I think I can help. I'll do my best to delivery as soon as I can.

I have an Idea to make the translation process faster, if there's more than one translator for the same language, you guys can split the file with the translators.

Aren't you covering quite a few languages with the staff already? I kinda would trust their translations more >_> And how will you choose the candidate, if you have 2 people who are willing to translate into the same language...? Also, don't you think it'd split the community even more?
Just some things I'm interested in, however, I'll stick with the original english version anyway, so I couldn't care less. It's a nice idea, but there are some cons, too, and you should be aware of it.

zidane, I kind of agree with some of your thoughts. Well for one, even if mangahelpers is translated into finnish or armenian, I would still stick to the english page. Since I enjoy reading in english and usually understand it better then finnish or armenian (wich are my daily languages).

About the community splitting. As long as forums and all the coding blaa blaa stays in english, that shouldnt be a problem. There might be people here who do not understand english and are after international scanlations, so localizing could help them big time.

Just a quick clarification:

The intention is not to localize posts and have everyone start posting in their own language, but rather having navigation menus, profile information, "labels" for data, perhaps even help stuff(dunno about this one yet) in localized language.

The website is still an English speaking website, but having the above available in localized versions can only be a good (and helpful) thing, at least IMHO!

Hope this clarifies somewhat?

I've got a question:
What's the point? I mean: 99% of the site content will be in English anyways (news, comments, almost every forum post, an so on...)
If you want the site to have language versions, then its content should be constantly translated.. (and nope, I'm not talking about forum posts ;p) That would mean new staff position - content translator.
Only then "site translation" would have some meaning. // But hey! That's just my opinion :P

Anyways, is it possible to see the english lang file? Applying for translation now, without actually seeing these 1000 lines, isn't too rational - some people might think they can do it, but once they have the task in their hands they might lose their spirit ;P So my point is: It's better to know what you're signing for! ^_^

PS. I could probably help with English>Polish translation... (but I won't sign up before I see these lines ;p)

I said earlier to participate, witht he help of other pl members, but the text with "1000 lines of text" kinda get me distracted from that idea xd

So I have a question: is therea possibility to see these text, even without any declaration of translating right now? Just to see the text for yourself?
thx in advance for reply

Hehe, yeah, that'd be great^^"
But anyway, it kinda helps there isn't a time limit so everybody can do it in their own pace.

And the localization would help people find the site and use it for finding international scans/trans I'm sure of it :)

I'll be glad to translate it into Spanish, I think it could take me about 3 weeks. And then if nobody has I could translate it into Catalan. I also have one question...

In the future, will we be able to see (for example) italian scanlations if we have set up as default spanish?

Thank you, I'll be waiting your answer.

I would offer my hopefully sufficent english to german skills, as i have much free time over the next few weeks...

Having two people doing this would help searching for the best translation, especially because we Germans already use many english terms^^

This, I think, is a question many people are probably asking. The answer is simple:

Yes, you will be able to see releases just as you do now on the Live website. That being said, we might be adding additional filters to allow users to default show only one language in the future, but this would be an option the user has to turn on manually on the website, and it would be clearly marked at that.

I can translate both French and Portuguese in 1 day for the Portuguese one the french would take somehow longer so ASAP send me the .csv I will probably deal with it this weekend or sooner even!

As long as you credit me for the translation of the site I have no problems whatsoever thanks njt mail me!

Want to mention the translation from Portuguese would be Portuguese-European if naruto_rocks or any other brazilian would like after I submit my Portuguese-European to the site I will gladly share the .csv file with 1000 lines in Portuguese-European so that they can have it translated quicker and easier from Portuguese-European to portuguese-Brazilian you see njt there are some minor differences but still are So I don't know if you prefer to have 2 versions in portuguese!

Anyway contact me
