One Piece Manga Increasing Speed to Gear 2nd.

+ posted by njt in Manga News on Sep 10, 2009 18:17

Even though the "Big three" have been licensed with Viz media for a long while now, it seems like out of them One Piece was hardly given any love.

Observe the following:
Naruto's latest release by viz was volume 44 (Current is 47 in Japan) - Difference of 3 volumes.

Bleach's latest release by viz was volume 28 (Current is 40 in Japan) - Difference of 12 volumes.

One piece's latest release by viz was volume 21 (Current is 55 in Japan) - Difference of 34 volumes!!!!

Well apparently there have been some complaints about this and Viz is ready to listen!

Starting January Viz announced it'll be releasing 5 volumes of One piece PER MONTH! Yes, you heard me right :o that's F.I.V.E volumes of Non stop One piece action per month~ (That also means 40.00 a month of your allowance, but heck^^ it's One Piece! Your parents/land lord/girlfriend are sure to understand :) )

Just so you have an idea of when to expect what volume check out the following release schedule:

January 2010 Volumes 24-28

February 2010 Volumes 29-33

March 2010 Volumes 34-38

April 2010 Volumes 39-43

May 2010 Volumes 44-48

June 2010 Volumes 49-53

So by Next year English speakers around the world can all enjoy One piece in all its glory in volume form :).

Keep up the great work Viz! (Just don't burn out, ne?)

I heard about this a few months ago already. After such a long time of feeling neglected and on the backburner, it feels like One Piece fans in North America are finally becoming valid and no longer need to be in the underground.

Thanks for the info ^_^
I was thinking about buying the series, but didn't like how the story in English was "outdated"...

Well lucky me, I am not even close to America so that I can think of buying them to burn up my allowance which I never get!

thats great news! although it doesn't apply to me at all :)

still, the fact that OP sales are so low in US, yet its so high in japan is pretty sad.

/me cuddles Germany

the last Volume I got was 51 ^_^ waiting for 52 to come in 2 months or so. I love this news since it encourages people to buy the volumes. Buy at least the stuff you really enjoy, eventhough you might say you prefer fan translators, holding the actual book in your hands is a whole other feeling than reading a scanlation.

This is kinda old news, it was announced... Yeah a few months ago.

It's nice to see the translations of One Piece getting some respect though.

Yeah I saw the release dates on wikipedia/amazon and was really pleased but unsure so it's nice to have some confirmation of OP finally getting the attention it deserves.

Yeah, see this is why we should be grateful that FUNimation fixed the One Piece mishap that 4Kids caused in the US. Now even those non-hardcore anime/manga readers may see One Piece the way we do, and love it just as much!

Bleach is pretty behind too. There are 40 volumes out, not 33. But it doesn't look like Viz will ever accelerate the pace to catch up.

Does anybody know how censored/tame the dialogue will be? If its devoid of any swearing whatsoever I'll be disappointed.

Aha,the large amount of chapters kind of discourage me to read it...but since it's available on paper, maybe I'll try it...Be reading it up to some hundred chapters but was kind of lost so had to restart all over again...this happens when you read a manga that's gone already way beyond...

It saddens me to see such a manga receive such a foul treatment here, in Brazil... I don't know the state of OP right now, but some years ago, the japanese tankoubon was being split into two volumes. So you see, Skypiea saga, Enel's fight, was Vol.44 or so. Incredibly stupid and disrespectful.
Nice that you guys are getting it the good, 5 freaking volumes, way!

Ofcourse its low in the US. majority of the reader over there are all over ninjas and actions.

One piece isn't just your regular pirate show. It have more complex story than the get to go hero who save his friend after near death battle every time.

I love to buy One Piece manga, but same with another person posted here, "What is the quality of the translation? And is there any censorship?"

Buying the whole series would cost a fair bit but it would be well worth if the content I am buying is what I expected.

Thats the thing about reading a book, You read the book it starts good then you get tired and stop. If you can endure to finish it, you would give a 8-9/10 rating. Else you would just fail the book as you are too bored after first chapter.

WTH!!!!! I never thought even once that a great manga like One Piece will be treated like that.... Fortunately, in my country it's already 52, and you said buy 5 volumes of One Piece per month!?!?!?!?!? Even my allowance per month won't cover something as much as that..... Well, looks like Bleach fans in North America don't suffer too much treatment like in my country, Bleach's latest release is volume 12. It looks like every country have their favorite manga, huh?
