Naruto Shippuden <3's Disney XD

+ posted by njt in Anime News on Sep 11, 2009 12:16

For the remainder of this post keep in mind XD is not a smiley. I repeat XD is not a smiley XD.

Disney and Viz Media will be bringing "Naruto Shippuden" to the Disney XD digital cable network beginning next month. The original "Naruto" series has been airing on Cartoon Network since 2005.

"Disney XD is a growing destination for our key demographic, boys 6-14, and we're looking forward to bringing the adventures of 'Naruto Shippuden' to our lineup," said Tracy McAndrew, director, acquisitions and co-productions, Disney-ABC Cable Networks Group.
"Naruto Shippuden" takes place two and a half years after the events of the first Naruto series and deals with Naruto and Sakura's search for past partner, Sasuke.

...I don't like this. Not one bit.

I know mangaka have a profound respect for Disney, but I don't think they quite understand the current state of Disney and how much it's degraded into meaningless mush. I see that it's going on their XD channel, but still.

Anyone else nearly as disappointed as I am?

I personally don't watch tv. How many different Disney channels are there? Also, how can they possibly change Naruto to mush? (Unless by mush you mean editing it to death :p)

The editing will most likely be in tune with what Cartoon Network would have aired, though Toon Disney (Disney XD) doesn't really have a reputation of airing TV-14 shows like Cartoon Network does, so that might be where the worry is coming from.

what!!! first its Marvel, and now Disney is moving its hand on Animes too????

i guess just airing on Disney will be harmless, but after looking at 4Kids, i don't know..... lets hope Disney don't do anything more and just stay with Naruto.

its good promotion and advertisement for Naruto, but Disney is um.... NO!

Isn't Shippuuden a little too much for that channel? Shouldn't it air on Adult Swim? I mean the show has a masochist in it and other things that wouldn't be considered very appropriate for the demographic they're looking at.

for some reason....just the word Disney makes me think of major edits....probably not as much as 4kids did to One piece, but definately more than there was on Cartoon Network. Disney is tryna take over everything! just like Walmart...lol XD

Disney with anime?

Total, epic failure. :( Disney sucks already...and they're gonna make it worse.

no, it should go to CN. Because that's what CN is all about. kid's cartoons. :(

Are you kidding me... 6-14 O_o Shippuuden have fricken killings, they'll censure it so much the kiddos them self will facepalm -_-' hahaha that's sooo not right

This to me seems like Disney just trying to cash in on the Naruto business, meanwhile taking a show mean for slightly older teenagers, and putting in on a network THEY say is aimed towards 6 year olds.

I hope it won't turn into something like this:

Disney XD is still pretty young. You can't really say what they will do. In my eyes, they have already proven they aren't Toon Disney with the heavy amounts of DC and Marvel cartoons on there, some of which tackle some mature themes. (Spectacular Spider-Man has a recurring sub-plot about steroid abuse) I think Shippuden will do fine on this network.

Disney might consider changing the following to better suit their audiences.

Flying Sharp objects ----> flying chocolate bunnies

Swearing -----> ???

don't see this as a good move on Viz's part. I would assume this is all about the money, but i think this will hurt more in the long run than help. Not sure how things everywhere, but where i'm at disney XD isn't part of the basic cable package, cartoon network is. although a quick check of the direct TV website shows that XD is a part of their most basic package while cartoon network isn't.

Yeah, this is gonna suck. This is why I stick to the subs, cause the english version sucks. The voice actors aren't that great in my opinion, the edit the hell out of it, it probably gonna suck more ass then TMNT did in the UK.

It won't be as bad as Germany's version of Naruto.

By the way, the other day I was watching it on Jetix UK (although now it's Disney XD) and the Kakkashi vs Itachi fight was on. It was really, and I mean really edited (for those who don't know, Jetix censored scenes present in the Viz Dub).

You guys are hilarious. Just support this movement. It may be good, you all haven't even seen it yet. If it sucks, it sucks. If not, then yay.

This is a good move. Give anime some more life down in America and if you guys don't like it, try and get Naruto on a better network...although Naruto on Adult Swim would be nice, then again better anime belong on Adult Swim instead XD.

Speaking as a guy that watch Naruto on CN, ANY sign of Naruto's return is welcomed. While I admit, much like the rest of you, the designation/demographic thing isn't what I consider appropriate, ANY chance to see the Dub and MAYBE a chance to hear Pain's VA is worth my time. (Well maybe. Hidan and Kakazu too.)

i LOL'd disney and anime just doesn't link
nor does disney and naruto.
What is this ?
maybe the next thing they are gonna do is a mickey and naruto crossover.
Seriously, disney should NOT touch anime.
Play with fire, get burn. for their case, they are playing with narutards :O

Jumping on the Naruto bandwagon D;
I am also disappointed;
The only thing that was 'decent' in my book is Disney in the Kingdom Hearts series, that was okay...
But Naruto?! This wouldn't be suitable for four year olds watching Winnie The Pooh
eating honey, then the next thing they see is ninja action/swearing/and things like Naruto using his sexy jutsu ;L

I dont like the sound of this ;S

Did anybody at Disney actually WATCH the Shippuden episodes before they decided on this? Just because it's animated doesn't mean it's automatically geared towards boys ages 6-14.

Can't imagine that they're going to air the series as is - I hate to think about how much they're going to edit it. I'd rather that they'd kept all the episodes uncut and have it air on Adult Swim.

I'm gonna have to step in on Disney's behalf for a second here.
First off, the hacks at Viz will be making any edits to the show, not Disney. So aim your verbal attacks and hatred towards them.
Second, have you ever seen a Disney movie? Beer, death, murder, smoking, etc. are commonplace, and the reason Disney can do that is because the topics are appropriately handled, and not ported off as the acts of moral citizens. Also, the villains are eerily sadistic on Aaron Stone, and it's a Disney XD original show. Zeke and Luther is also an entertaining show, too.
Thirdly, XD is a much better place for the show than CN. CN is dead. And their "adult swim" is nothing more than a rebellious child's hangout.
You gotta hand it to Disney for even getting into the anime genre, when it's so unpopular these days. Maybe they can revive it in America. I've been to yard sales and resale markets that had bundles of Naruto merchandise they were trying to get rid of. Why'd they lose interest? Cause Viz are hackneys whose translations of manga and anime don't even match one another. For shame.
