Here you will find a run down of today's anime and manga news! If anything major happened the anime and manga world today, you'll find it in this post! By the way, I'm saladesu, one of the translator-moderators of MH, and I'll be posting a post like this every day (as much as possible, anyway). Look forward to them ;)

If you would like to help in finding and translating news of this nature, please contact saladesu via PM ^^ Feel free to PM me any interesting bits of anime or manga news you find floating around the internet, too.

Please note that there may be delays in the broadcasts or releases of certain anime and manga following the quake. You may see a list of affected publications here and here.

Tokyo Governor: Earthquake Was Divine Punishment

Tokyo governor Ishihara Shintarou was also the one who passed the new manga censorship laws late last year.

Tokyo governor Ishihara Shintarou has told the press he believes the magnitude 9.0 earthquake that hit Japan on Friday was a form of divine punishment:

"The identity of the Japanese people is selfishness. The Japanese people must take advantage of this tsunami as means of washing away their selfish greed. I really do think this is divine punishment."

Ishihara was contrasting the "selfishness and greed" that he perceived in Japan with the identity of the United States with "liberty" and the identity of France with "liberty, philanthropy, and equality [sic]."

With the media focusing on more important earthquake news, his outrageous statements are not getting much attention yet. However, Twitter users are trying to spread the word about Ishihara using the tag #ishihara_damare ("shut up, Ishihara").

Ishihara is also well known for having bashed gays, manga, video games, Brazilians... He is also the one behind Tokyo's new manga censorship laws from late last year.

All I'll say is this was neither the place nor the time to force one own religious opinion on others, especially when such tragedy has and is taking place.

Japanese and selfishness?! Two words that I’ve never heard anybody use in a same sentence. Whilst it is true that Japanese people in Tokyo are quite selfish (the same goes for people in most major cities around the World), to suggest that this was an act of divine punishment is insane. Seriously, the Japanese have among the lowest crime rates around, simply because their culture forbids stealing. I would never associate "greed" with the japanese culture.

Governor Ishihara, if you want to believe that an earthquake is a wake-up call to righteousness, all the power to you. Speak what you feel but, don't feel that it is a harsh judgement on YOUR people. And doesn't he mean "liberty, equality, fraternity" when he is referring to France’s identity? Governor Ishihara should be removed and put into mental hospital at once! And why is he the one politician who doesn’t get forced to resign over every stupid little comment?

This governer is a disgrace! He really shouldn't be changing the waves of life too harshly. As well as spitting nonsence to his his rule in Japan. Very terrible.
