42nd Seiun Awards Nominees Announced Anime and manga nominees include Fullmetal Alchemist, Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei and more. The nominees for the 42nd Seiun Awards have been announced. The Seiun Awards begain in 1970 with science fiction fans wanting to show their appreciation for science fiction pieces they felt were interesting. The winners are chosen by the participants of the annual Japan SF Convention via voting. The categories for the awards are: Japanese Long Novel Category, Japanese Short Novel Category, Overseas Long Novel Category, Overseas Short Novel Category, Media Category, Comic Category, Art Category, Non-Fiction Category and Free Category. There were around 60 nominees across the 9 categories. All nominees were opened, sold or completed within 2010.

Last year, at the 41st Seiun Awards, Hosoda Mamoru's "Summer Wars" and Urasawa Naoki and Tezuka Osamu's "Pluto" picked up the awards in the Media and Comic Categories respectively, while Sunrise's life-size "Gundam 30th Anniversary Project Real G the Statue of Gundam" also picked up a prize in the free category. This year, the 50th Japan SF Convention will be held on the 3rd and 4th of September in Shizuoka, and the winners for the 42nd Seiun Awards will be decided then.
