New Manga Shout Out: 10/24/11 - 10/30/11

Welcome to the next New Manga Shout Out. With the no-raws/scans rule on MH, you have to work a bit to find these mangas. Emura Eika lives with her grandfather and little sister in a big, old house with surrounding land. She loves studying swordfighting, and constantly has fights to help her become ever stronger. One day, a strange young man named En comes by. He's immortal, and he's been alive for 2000 years. For 1500 of those years, he's been searching for a particular girl-- one with the initials E.E., who was born at a specific time, who has a star-shaped mark on her forehead, and fits various other criteria. According to a prophecy, it's this girl, whose description fits Eika exactly, who will finally help him die. Eika, though, has no intention of killing anyone, no matter how cheerfully eager for death he seems. En decides that the only thing to do is to move in with her, and stick around until he's finally able to persuade her to do the deed!

On his way to toss out his special basketball shoes, he meets a girl who is just as frustrated, throwing her own dancing shoes away. She's so tall, and her hands and feet are so large, that she's been rejected from her chosen hobby of Spanish dancing. He urges her to give basketball a try, and the two exchange their shoes instead of throwing them away.

As he enters high school, Kimitaka learns that meeting him changed that girl's life for the better, and she is now a happy, social basketball player. Will Kimitaka be able to find the courage to make new friends and pursue his own talents?

It’s fairly obvious to Terui Chiaki that her classmate Ajikawa Yoshio has a crush on her. He is completely not boyfriend material in her eyes and, even if he was, Chiaki already has a boyfriend. Their mysterious teacher Mr. Yamada sees this relationship between the two students and offers an experiment. He is able to make copies of people and objects and does so with Chiaki, creating a copy of her, except the copy has no knowledge of her boyfriend. Yoshio will hit on the Chiaki copy, who is named Koaki, and he'll try to make her fall in love with him. After a specified amount of time, the copy and original will be combined back together and which ever love is stronger between the current boyfriend and Yoshio will overwrite all other emotions. So this love experiment begins and both Chiaki and Koaki, being the same person, thinks Yoshio has no chance in hell but with each passing day, some feelings begin to bubble.

Most people would freak out if their new apartment was haunted. But Gotou Seiichi actually welcomes the supernatural, as long as it's a cute ghost like Uehara Hinako. Seiichi comes from a family who has spiritual awareness and willingly chose the apartment after he heard rumors of a female ghost haunting the place. He instantly falls in love with Hinako who tries every trick she knows of scaring him out. But with every attempt, she makes him fall in love with her even more.

This is what tethysdust said this week:
My favorite this week was Kokkoku. The manga is really well done, and the story is very suspenseful! Second favorite would be Tetsugaku Letra. At the heart of it, I think it's a story about how the things we say and do affect others, whether we mean for them to or not. On the negative side, there's a lot of physical and psychological bullying, but it also shows how important it can be to stand up for someone or be kind to them. Kill Me, Please! was pretty funny, though ridiculous. I'm amazed how cheerful and upbeat the manga is, considering that it's literally about a guy begging for death. X-cross is unique in that is was entirely in color. The spots of humor were a little too silly for me sometimes, but the mystery was pretty interesting.

Holy Knight - sexy new series about vampires and school girls. The contents are very adult but if you can handle that, very thrilling and interesting read.

Zettai Reiiki - comedy about a romantic relationship between a weird dude and an innocent but ditsy female ghost. I think it is funny and light hearted and anyone can read this.

Waza no Tabibito - adventure series with a heroine that can be as powerful as she wants, as long as she is determined enough and her spirit is solid. Good morals mixed with comedy and action makes it a pretty decent series.

Uwagaki - a very original twist to the typical school life romance. I really liked the plot, the comedy, the characters were really great and dynamic. If you dont read anything else from this week, READ THIS ONE.

Instinct - new mob plot series mixed with supernatural beings like vampires and werewolves. The action and the messages behind the story is really great and recommend anyone who likes shounen manga to read this and I promise you that you will not be disappointed.
My opinion:
This week seems to have a lot of interesting new manga. Eien no! - Kill Me Please! sounds hilarious. I can't wait to see how he tries to get her to kill him. Very funny premise~ Kokkoku sounds pretty good as well. The idea that you can stop time in order to make a ransom sounds interesting. I've enjoyed other manga by SAHARA Mizu before so I'd want to check out Tetsugaku Letra. Uwagaki certainly has a different take on the romance genre. XX X-Cross looks like a good mystery. Zettai Reiiki looks like a cute romance manga, although I don't know how it can end well...
