Fairy Tail - Chapter 539 Review by XXEliteXXAceXX
Chapter 539: "World Collapse"Pretty decent chapter. The set-up is promising; hopefully, everything else will be executed properly.
StorylineThis week's chapter starts off with Acnologia breaking through the Timelapse. He does this by eating his way out, thereby giving him the power to control time. Much to everyone's surprise, the black dragon is unharmed; meanwhile, Anna and Ichiya are nowhere to be found. Overwhelmed by his newly acquired power, Acnologia uses a spell called "Eternal Flare", causing thousands of nukes to fall from the sky. Due to its planetary destruction, he gives himself a new title called "The Perfect Dragon of Extinction". Meanwhile, the rest of the dragon slayers were transported to a different dimension called "The Ravines of Time" where nothing exists except Acnologia himself.
AnalysisNot much happened besides Acnologia's return.
Timelapse - Not really too thrilled by the fact that Acnologia was able to eat it. But at this point, anything works as long as Acnologia wasn't defeated by Anna and Ichiya. Having one final battle between the dragon slayers and Acnologia is easily a better alternative.
Acnologia - In my opinion, this was the best part of the chapter. While it was expected that he would return, having confirmation makes it more satisfying. Though, at this point, Acnologia is pretty much invincible...
Eternal Flare - Probably one of my favorite spells in the entire series. Not only was the artwork incredible, but the amount of damage it caused made it feel like there was actually a "threat". All I ask is that Acnologia will still be able to demonstrate this level of power in his upcoming fight.
Dragon Slayers vs. Acnologia - I'm pretty hyped about this fight. It gives the dragon slayers a purpose, rather than just being part of the series. To be honest, I would like it even better if this was a combined effort between the Alvarez Empire, Ishgar, and the dragon slayers... But as long as we get a team fight, I will be happy.
Anna and Ichiya's "Death" - Not sure what to believe. Personally, I wouldn't mind if they stayed dead because that would add some meaning to the past few chapters. At the same time, I can totally see them coming back unharmed just like Acnologia...
CriticismsI don't really have any criticisms for this chapter except the fact that all of this could have happened many chapters ago. That way, more time will be dedicated to this fight and the story would have flown more smoothly. Not to mention, all the other meaningless events wouldn't have happened...
Final ThoughtsOverall, I was pleased with the chapter. If it continues on this path, Fairy Tail's ending will be much better and all the missing pieces can be salvaged. As for the next chapter, it sounds like it has something to do with dragons and humans. Maybe it is hinting that the dragon slayers will fight together? Anyways, I am interested as to what will happen next.
