18-year-old Teenager Arrested for Illegally Uploading Raw Manga 
The 18-year-old had uploaded scans from over 3,800 volumes from 260 different series, including the popular Nurarihyon no Mago, and had his website accessed by over 2.5 million people. An 18-year-old boy in Katagami City, Akita Prefecture, was arrested on the 8th for violation of copyrights. The boy had uploaded scans of manga onto an American online file-hosting sites without permission.
According to the police's High-Tech Crime Joint Task Center, the boy had uploaded scans of around 3,800 volumes of manga from around 260 different series, to online file-hosting websites without permission. His site, Manga.jp had an estimated 2.5 million hits, and he had earned approximately ¥270,000 via advertising revenue.
The boy admitted to the crime, stating, "I obtained the manga from other sites. I wanted to try it for myself."
Between 15th August and 3rd September last year, the boy had uploaded 3 volumes of manga including volume 11 of "Nurarihyon no Mago" (Shueisha) from his home computer.

Madhouse Studio Taken Over by Nittele 
Nittele announces take-over of Madhouse, aims to bring anime studio's operating profit up with experience and know-how. It was announced on the 8th of February that the Nippon Television Network Corporation (also known as Nittele), took the anime production studio Madhouse as its subsidiary.
Madhouse is well-known as the anime studio behind movies such as "Sennen Joyuu" and "Summer Wars", as well as television series "Card Captor Sakura" and "MONSTER".
In taking Madhouse as a subsidiary, Nittele will strive to develop the movies, broadcasting, official goods and VOD distribution. With Nittele's content management know-how, they are predicting that in 3 years' time, they an bring Madhouse's operating profit to ¥300,000,000.

Mangaka Irie Shigeru Passes Away 
Aged 84, Irie was best known for shoujo manga "Sumire-san" Irie Shigeru, aged 84, passed away on the 6th to pneumonia. He was active in the 1950s and 60s and drew manga for a shoujo magazine. His most famous work is "Sumire-san".
