Japan college offers PhD in manga/comics Lovers of Japanese comics can now get a doctorate in the art form.
Fans of vintage Japanese comics can now get a high degree in the art form.
Kyoto Seika University, a private college in western Japan, is launching the nation's first doctoral program in manga, according to Australia's The Age.
The institution reportedly began an online degree program in manga and anime last year, the newspaper says.
The on-campus program should prove to be popular. Kyoto Seika has already gotten requests from people overseas to do their cartoon research there.
Kochi Kame One-Shots to Appear in 13 Magazines Latest volume also on sale.
Akimoto Osamu's "Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouen-mae Hasshutsujo" (we understand, just call it "Kochi Kame") will be making a little trip of all 13 of Shueisha's manga magzines. Special one-shots will be published in each of these magazines, including Margaret, V Jump, Business Jump and more, starting from August and running until October. Akimoto quipped in a comment published in the 30th issue of Weekly Shounen Jump (on sale 4th July), "I'm writing for 13 magazines! I may just die (lol) I challenge all you readers to read all 13 of those magazines too!!".
In addition, the latest volume of "Kochi Kame", volume 175, went on sale on the 4th of July as well.
New Trailer Streams for Kokuriko-Zaka Kara Directed by Goro Miyazaki, Hayao Miyazaki's son, the film will be released in Japanese theatres on July 16th.
The script was written by Hayao with Keiko Niwa. Toshio Suzuki will be producing the film.
Adapted from the manga by Takahashi Chizuru and Sayama Tetsuro, Kokuriko-Zaka Kara takes place in 1963 in Yokohama and follows Komatsuzaki, whose family runs an old lodging house. Komatsuzaki recounts her everyday life in high school with Kazama and Mizunuma, the student council president.
Berserk Film Out Early Next Year It has been announced that the long awaited Berserk's anime film is slated to release by January next year throughout Japan.
Teaser trailers will be out soon and the official website for the anime film can be viewed by 15th of July. Toshiyuki Kubooka will be directing this film at Warner Brothers Japan, Studio 4°C. If you want to grab your hands on a Berserk clear file, it will come with magazine, Young Animal vol.15.
Business Jump and Super Jump to Merge into Single Anthology Shueisha also to launch new monthly seinen magazine and convert Jump Kai to regular magazine.
Shueisha has announced that they will be merging its two seinen magazines, Buisness Jump and Super Jump. The amalgamation of the two will form a single seinen, bi-monthly manga that will begin publication this Fall. Shueisha will also be launching a new monthly seinen magazine within the year, and details will be forthcoming on both the Business Jump and Super Jump official websites. In addition, Jump Kai, previously published as a special edition magazine, will now become a regular magazine starting next Spring.

Shueisha is holding a comic fair in all participating book stores across Japan this summer, entitled "Natsu Comi 2011". On the official website, the various mangaka under the Shueisha umbrella have contributed photos and illustrations as well as messages, all of which are centered around the theme "summer". Four messages are added every weekday.
In addition, users can check out the first chapter of all series that are being promoted at the fair - for free! Every week, 20 series will be made available. Plus, everyone who buys a volume of a series that is being promoted at the fair at a participating book store will receive a "ONE PIECE New World Saga Coaster," illustrated by Oda Eiichirou himself. There are 10 different coasters in total and are limited in number.
Iron Man Anime's English-Dubbed Clip Posted by Marvel 1st MADHOUSE series based on Marvel superhero to hold U.S. TV premiere on July 29
The Iron Man anime premiered at Comic-Con International 2010 in San Diego, before airing in Japan during the fall 2010 season. In the series, Tony Stark travels to Japan to build a new arc reactor for the country, but ends up fightiing the mysterious Zodiac consortium. Adrian Pasdar (Heroes, The Super Hero Squad Show) voices Stark, while Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes, Gilmore Girls) plays Wolverine.
Extras Needed for Rurouni Kenshin Live-Action Movie Filming will take place from late July to end October, but all applicants will need to undergo screening.
The producers of the upcoming Rurouni Kenshin live-action movie have opened up auditions for extra roles in the movie. Filming will take place from late July to end October this year, and filming locations will include the Kansai, Hiroshima and Shikoku areas. Both men and women of various ages are needed, although they are in particular need of those who are sporty and active. All applicants must undergo screening.
