New Manga Shout Out: 12/10/12 - 12/16/12

Welcome to the next New Manga Shout Out. This weekly article introduces you to manga that are new and/or have not been scanlated yet. This week features a gang going against the yakuza, a robot from the future and a 4koma about idols. Remember, if you like any of the series, favorite them. Tsugiki Shizuka is a gang leader in a major yakuza organization, in Kagami-cho Shinjuku. He and his two closest followers, Isesake Miru and Amano Mia, are well-known and strikingly stylish. In fact, Shizuka is regularly mistaken for a host club worker (to his fury), and some of the other yakuza mock them by calling them a visual-kei band. Shizuka has a pretty good life, though, with money, power, a hot girlfriend, and loyal followers.

Then one day, the higher-ups decide to cut Shizuka's gang loose. Without any yakuza protection, Shizuka is now vulnerable to those who wish him harm. Not only is Shizuka in danger, but his situation puts the lives of his friends and his girlfriend on the line, as well. However, Shizuka is not the sort to run away or allow himself to be killed. He's determined to hold onto his life, to protect his own, and to be an enemy of the yakuza that turned on him!

In a tale set in the middle of the Meiji era, Shusuke Kano is doing hard labor in Hokkaido, imprisoned for demonstrating against the government for freedom and democracy. He escapes from prison with another government opponent and pretends to be an Ainu, to hide his true identity. Later, Kano meets Sokaku Takeda, a martial arts master, and becomes his disciple. Adept in martial arts, Kano works as a bodyguard for the Korean revolutionist, Kim Okyon. Kano is angry that leading members of the Liberal Party were freed from jail quickly and now live comfortably, while more unfortunate participants of the liberal democratic movement are still in prison. He soon becomes a faithful follower of Kim, a serious revolutionary.

Disheartened when Kim is assassinated in a plot between the Chinese and Korean governments, Kano goes into the trading business with a ship that Katsukaishu gives him. Meeting the Young Sunwen changes everything. He decides to put his energy and passion into the Chinese revolution; something he could not do with the liberal movement in Japan.

One day, Mizuki finds a strange foreign man inside her desk drawer! He claims he is Raymond, a marine-type robot from the future, but he tells them all this in English, since he doesn't know Japanese at all. Mizuki and her mother are completely bewildered as they attempt to apply their mostly-forgotten English skills to figuring out who Raymond is and why he is in their house! When they finally manage to get some understanding between them, he proves that he is a robot by pulling futuristic objects, like an "Anywhere Helicopter" out of his pants. Mizuki and her mother have no idea what to make of this stranger, but he claims he was sent back to them for a reason, by future-Mizuki's son...

This 4koma manga follows the everyday adventures of two sexy idols with the Yellow Cab Sexy Talent group. Tsubasa is a large-breasted, uninhibited woman who loves sex, and who has it with just about everyone she meets. Minako is an easily embarrassed, large-breasted woman, who hopes her time with Yellow Cab is just a stepping stone on the way to becoming a real actress. The two of them make their scantily-clad way through many sexy assignments together!

This is what tethysdust said this week:
Gangster Island was my favorite this week. It had some very slick art, and a quick-moving story. Raymond was kind of funny, too, but I'm not sure that kind of humor can sustain a series for very long.

My opinion:
Gangster Island was probably the best of the bunch. It might be interesting to see how a gang goes against the yakuza.
