Ah, if I hadn't already voted a write in candidate, I would have totally written in Gengai Hiraga as my choice.

Wasn't a weapon to annihilate the liberation front...
It's a virus....
Not meant to attack us directly but to spread a virus to seal off our machinery!!

Tama: Then when you say a machine to stop the war you mean....
Gengai: Yup...
But this bigun' isn't what I mean.
It's this little one here.
The machines in here are so small that they can't be seen by the naked eye.
They're the ones who hold this world's fate.
They're normally called nanomachines,
but I've named 'em “Bees”.

Gengai: When the Bees are discharged by this bigu'n here...
They'll remain in the atmosphere.
Rather than taking to flowers, they'll land on machines.
Once they have, they'll pollinate the machinery with an equipped computer virus..
And hijack control of the target's system.
Then usin' their stingers they'll wreck the circuitry of the machines,
ceasing their ability to function.
In short...
They're machines out to kill other machines.

Gengai: The liberation army's battleships and tanks are all dependent on machinery to run.
This here will turn them into scrap.
That'll send war back to a time where we're runnin' about chuckin' bamboo spears at each other.
But it doesn't make sense to pull the plug on the Liberation front temporarily.
To do this right Bees need to act like a barrier –spread about around the entirety of this country so the Liberation front can't approach at all.
But that's tantamount to...
wrecking every machine in the country.
If humanity intends to survive this...
Then we have to sacrifice you guys –the machines.
Not only that but the Bees have to have a continuous discharge of twenty minutes at the very least.
Gettin' that much energy means siphoning it from around the entire country, but who knows how long that'll last?
And then lets not forget that this bigun is a machine too.
While I've fortified it with protective defenses, but that won't last forever.
The Bees will probably penetrate that defensive wall in about ten minutes, and then the cannon will be wrecked too.

Gengai: Which means basically, as soon as that cannon gets wrecked,
I'll need other machines to operate it's main system.
(Sfx- Tan tan thud thud)
???: And only machines with high specs...
Can endure the Bee's attacks...

Kintoki: Which would leave us, yeah?
Gengai: Kinnoji.
Kintoki: That's just great.
It might be training or whatever,
But I've gotten sick of tightening screws in this dank-ass basement.
Gold shines brightest...
When it's out under the sun.
Gengai: You get it right?
Stepping into this ridiculous role is literally suicide.
Kintoki: But if we refuse then the world ends, right?
If we're damned if we do and damned if we don't, then it's about which damnation is better.
Also I'm not fighting those liberation front guys...
but that dude...Sakata Gintoki.
I can finally pay back the debt I owe him from back then.
