Listen, Akira---

Do not fear the wind.
Those who fear it cannot see the wind.
And they shall be at its mercy.
If you really want to be an outstanding ski jumper---
You must learn to see the currents of the wind.
Hear that?
Do not forget.

Head winds---
Blow for the strong.
I can see it---
The wind currents---

Guy: !?
Akira(thought): I started ski jumping in the mountains back at home when I was 4...
Akira(thought): I jumped down the slope tens of thousands of times---
Akira(thought): The feelings of the wind, seeping into my muscles, carving into my nerves---
Akira(thought): My body remembers them!!
Yoda: Wha...!?

Mikage: What's up with that...
Mikage: Doing that triumphant pose as he's sliding down...
Yuuta: He...
Yuuta: Is really happy.
Mikage: Huh?
Page 12
Yuuta: Because he flew so far---
Mikage: Even when it's like that?
Mikage: I can't understand at all.
Akira(thought): I saw it...
Akira(thought): The wind...
Akira(thought): I managed to ride---
Akira(thought): Such a strong wind!!
Page 13
Yoda: However, landing on his feet even after losing his stance like that in the air...
Yoda: He's no ordinary person.
Background: Oooooooh
Yoda: Hm?
Yoda: What's up?
Guy: It's just...Amatsu-kun's flying distance just now...
Guy: He flew 136.5 meters.
Yoda: Hoo...
Yoda: From the very beginning, this competition doesn't care about style points.
Yoda: Nonomiya Yuuta---Amatsu has 0 style points but his distance is 136.5 meters.
Page 14
Yoda: To win, you have to fly at least 134 meters, even if you need to fall and roll.
What are you gonna do?
Yuuta: Can you stand?
Yuuta: I didn't think you could fly like that.
Yuuta: I...
Page 15
Akira: There's no way...
Akira: I'm losing to such a feminine guy.
Akira: Homo.
Akira: See, I'm getting the hives.
Yoda: Even though the wind is weaker than before, it's still pretty strong.
You can stop if you want.
Yuuta: No way.
Yuuta: Amatsu
Yuuta: Your impudent mouth...
Yuuta: I'll make sure to shut it.
Page 16
If the wind stays like this...
I can win against Amatsu for sure.

Afterword
Following Elfen Lied, this is my second serialization.
Weekly serialization is like a fast-moving train, and it makes me really nervous.
In order to draw a manga about skiing, I went to many places to take photographs.
In the large hill ski jumps in Okurayama and Hakuba, there are viewing platforms set up overlooking the starting area. Watching from above, the jumping platform really looks like a cliff. If you stand behind the fence used to enclose the film shooting area, you will get a life-threatening feeling. In fact, it's not so different from standing on the roof of a 10-story building. I think most people would refuse to sit on the starting bar even when told to do so. Even so, elementary school students will voluntarily step out of the gate to do their jumps. Anyway, it's a really cool and impressive competition.
Although there aren't many manga revolved around ski jumping, if by any chance reading this makes you become interested in the sport, it will make me very happy. Actually, even in Tokyo, sometimes ski jumping events are rebroadcasted on Sunday evenings during the seasons.
I gathered much data in order to work on this manga. Thank you very much for taking time from your busy schedules to help me with my research.
See you in volume 2~
