Chapter 75: Because I Love It!
Page 2
Speaker: And now---
Speaker: The second round of the competition shall commence.
Speaker: The height of the gate---
Speaker: Has been adjusted from number 27 to number 23.
Guy: Huh?
Guy: ...
Guy: Seriously...?
Page 3
Yoda: They lowered it four whole levels...
Yoda: So they decided to something so drastic...
Muramatsu: About what?
Yoda: The committee lowered the height of the starting gate.
Muramatsu: So what does that mean?
Yoda: Don't you remember anything that I told you before!?
Yoda: In skiing jumping, the landing distance is affected by the height of the bar at the starting point.
Yoda: If you raise it, there will be more acceleration, and the distance will be greater. And if you lower it, the distance will shorten.
Yoda: The judges over there determine its height based on the wind and the ability of the jumpers...
But to think it's lowered so much at once...
Page 4
Yoda: It's because Shiriya and Amatsu jumped too far, all the way past HS---
Muramatsu: They did that because it's dangerous to jump too far right?
Isn't that a good thing?
Yoda: To Shiriya and Amatsu, yeah.
Yoda: But for everyone else, it's too low.
Yoda: Rather than the K point, they won't even be able to get past the P point.
Muramatsu: Oh?
Muramatsu: In the first round...
Muramatsu: There wasn't even one person who jumped around 40 meters, was there?
Page 5
Speaker: 55 meters.
Muramatsu: Woah...
Muramatsu: Everyone's doing not as well.
They're all in the 50's.
Yoda: Yeah.
On average, everyone's distance decreased by around 20 meters.
Page 6
Yoda: The point is...
Yoda: That new height really hurts a lot of people.
Kishitani: Hey Amatsu.
Kishitani: Was it ok to say all those soothing words to Nonomiya?
Kishitani: 20 meters is just too great of distance you know.
Amatsu: I didn't say anything like that.
I just told him to do the best he can.
Kishitani: But...
Amatsu: Don't worry about it. I will assist Nonomiya.
Kishitani: Assist?
Amatsu: He---
Amatsu: Has a grudge against that guy.
Page 7
Amatsu: It has already begun.
Kishitani: Wha...what do you mean, assist?
Amatsu: Should you be here, Kishitani?
You're going next.
Kishitani: Ah...!
Speaker: Number 24,
Speaker: Kishitani Hiroki, Okushin High School.
Amatsu: This is...
Amatsu: Kishitani is getting a good wind.
Page 8
Guy: ...
Guy: So Kishitani's jumping pretty far?
Shingu: Yeah...
Amatsu: ...Sigh.
Amatsu: He doesn't listen no matter what.
Page 9
Amatsu: He will always only lean forward greatly right away if he's facing a head wind.
Amatsu: That's why he'll drop down right away if there's no wind...
Amatsu: But if he happens to get a favorable wind, he can jump farther than other people.
Guy: For real...?
Page 10
Kishitani: Yes---!!
Yoda: 84 meters from such a low gate is pretty impressive.
If this were round 1, it would probably be around 105 meters.
Kishitani: Did you see that!?
Kishitani: This is my true potential!!
Kishitani: I'm the best by far!!
Muramatsu: For now, yeah.
Sasamiya: Look at that...
Sasamiya: It'll be a pain if we let him get carried away as well.
Maoka: ...
Yoda: ...
Yoda: And next is---
Page 11
Yoda: Nonomiya.
Yuuta: Hah...
Yuuta: Hah...
Yuuta(thought): What should I do...
Yuuta(thought): It's still scary...
Yuuta(thought): What do I need to do?
Amatsu: Nonomiya,
Didn't I tell you just now?
Page 12
Amatsu: It's fine the way it is.
Amatsu: Those people who are not professional jumpers---
No matter how much they are interested in the sport, it's impossible for them to actually jump.
Amatsu: Do you know why?
Amatsu: Because they're scared.
Amatsu: No one can overcome that fear.
Amatsu: Most people can't even bring themselves to sit on that starting bar.
Page 13
Amatsu: And we---
Amatsu: Are ski jumpers precisely because we overcame that fear.
Amatsu: For those who are scared---
Who aren't ski jumpers, they can't see the world that only we can see---
Amatsu: That's why even though they're scared, they love the sport.
Amatsu: Nonomiya,
Why are you doing ski jumping?
Amatsu: I know it's not only because of the Olympics.
Yuuta(thought): That's right.
Yuuta(thought): I----
Page 14
Yuuta: I...
Love it!!
Yuuta: Ski jumping is so fun...
Amatsu: ...
Amatsu: In that case,
Amatsu: You should be able to get over this fear.
Yuuta: Amatsu...
Yuuta: Thank you so much. I'm fine now.
Page 15
Yuuta: This degree of fear...
Yuuta: Is not something that I'll lose to!!
Emperor: Oi, you two...
Page 16
Emperor: Stop talking about useless crap.
Emperor: It won't do you any good.
Emperor: With a difference of 20 meters...
Emperor: Like you stand a chance of winning against me.
Emperor: You don't know when to give up, do you?
Emperor: Just hurry up and admit your defeat already.
Emperor: I want to win quickly so Noriko-san can praise me.
If I win by a long shot, then many things will trickle down her thighs.
Yuuta: ...
Yuuta: There's no way she'll praise you.
Emperor: Huh?
Page 17
Yuuta: Although she may agree to console you.
Emperor: What a pitiful guy you are.
Yuuta: !?
Yuuta(thought): Damn you~~~!! Just you watch~~~
Kishitani: It's green now!!
Kishitani: ...
Kishitani: Speaking of which, Nonomiya...
Kishitani: Will she be ok today?
Page 18
With the ghost that she always sees before failing a jump---
Afterword
I don't know if you can tell at a glance, but volume 7 has one more chapter than all the other volumes.
It was fine to do so because the cutoff point is good, but apparently the price of the book increases with one extra chapter, and even if the page number goes back to normal in the next volume, the price won't go back down.
After much thinking, I decided get rid of the one color page that was at the beginning of every volume, so the price wouldn't change even with more pages. And I don't think anyone would really notice if it's gone.
All things aside, this is supposed to be the most worthwhile volume so far.
See you again in volume 8---
