Chapter 6: Survivors
P2:
Kadokura: Three years…
p3:
Kadokura: Three years alone in an iron box at the bottom of the sea, far away from the light of the sun… / Is he still alive?
Kadokura: While it was closed, the temperature inside the facility was the same as the water outside: two degrees Celsius. / Within that ice-like darkness… it must have felt like an eternity.
p4:
Old Guy: If you’re going to kill me, do it already!
Old Guy: I’m sick of being scared. / Everyone does the same thing in the end, anyways.
p5:
Old Guy: Wait—are you guys even real? / Or am I just talking with my own delusions? / ….How long has it been since then?
Old Guy: Heh / heh / It feels like I’ve been here for a hundred years, but now that I think about it…
Old Guy: Was that infernal gate ever closed?
p6:
Old Guy: Did that demon born of despair and darkness / ever go back to hell?
p7:
Uemura(?): Man, I’ve mostly gotten used to working with the Chinese on joint ventures, / but their attitude towards accidents still feels weird.
Samejima(?): They’ve got to answer to their bosses, who answer to their bosses, and stuff like that. / Is it a difference in culture, or a difference of ideals?
Doctor: The patient’s name is Sakonji Kyohiko. / It seems he came here as a marine biologist three years ago, but…
p8:
Doctor: All things considered, his mental state is remarkable.
Doctor: It’s his physical state I’m worried about. / The unsanitary environment in there gave him a really bad infection. / We’re currently giving him antibiotics, but / his muscles have massively deteriorated, and I don’t know if his eyesight will ever return.
p9:
Doctor: But still, it’s hard to believe, isn’t it?
Doctor: That someone could have survived / that enigmatic accident three years ago.
Wein: ….. / Dr. Shirane.
Wein: It seems accidents are continuing to pile up faster than we can respond to them. / Furthermore, since the elevator is closed, we cannot airlift him out.
Wein: As such, I would like you to keep this man’s existence / a secret for the time being…
p10:
Amakasu: That’s fine by me. / It’s best if we just keep this secret amongst ourselves.
Shirane: Hey, Amakasu-san.
Amakasu: I’m this facility’s counselor, Amakasu Sakura.
Amakasu: Recently, most of the researchers and laborers have been in a severe mental state. / Insomnia born of stress, people suffering neurotic panics…
p11:
Amakasu: There’s a lot of them sleeping with the lights on. / Saying that it’s too scary to sleep in the dark.
Shirane: Ah—
Amakasu: That they saw something… strange.
Amakasu: At—at any rate, we should forbid passage through the problematic areas. / And you should probably raise our security levels, too.
p12:
Kadokura: Umm… / You said the stress arose from people seeing weird things, right?
Amakasu: ….. Did you think of something?
p13:
No… I know / that wasn’t an illusion.
p14:
Sakonji: Did that demon born of despair and darkness / ever go back to hell?
p15:
Kadokura: Just a little while ago everyone was lively working overtime… / And now, there’s no one here.
Kadokura: Huh?
p16:
Kadokura: Should you really be up and about?
Kadokura: By the way,
Kadokura: back in the conference room, you said / you saw your father outside the window, right?
[inset]: …… Huh?
p17:
She seems…… / different, somehow…… no…..
Mei: I’m sorry, but could you leave me alone?
Kadokura: Huh?
Mei: A lot happened, but I’ve got myself in order now. I’m sorry.
Kadokura: But—you recovered that fast? / After you fainted just by seeing that, and then tried to kill youself…
p18:
Mei: Thanks for back then. / I’ll give you one piece of advice in return.
Mei: You belong somewhere bright. / Where your life will never succumb to the darkness of regret.
Kadokura: What... are you saying?
p19:
Kadokura: …..Shit. What the hell?
p20:
Kadokura: In the end…
Kadokura: The only one who can hold a conversation is that survivor… how ironic. / I should try to ask the man some questions…
Kadokura: Whoa!
p21:
Hey…. Kusakabe-san! / Xia!
Kadokura: What are you doing!
Kusakabe: I… I could ask you the same question!
Kadokura: And you already told him?! <aside: Guess your words don’t mean much. >
Kusakabe: It’s because you guys are keeping so many secrets… / We want to know what’s going on, too!
Kusakabe: Besides, this is a Japanese facility!
Kadokura: Huh? / Huh?
Kusakabe: Why do we always have to do what the Chinese management company says?!
p22:
Xia: If you believe the fish dangling from the line / is the equal of the one who holds the pole,
Xia: it’s usual to seize some advantage.
Kadokura: Huh?
Xia: Didn’t I tell you when we first met? / That you have “gullible” written on your face.
Kusakabe: Shut up for a second!
Kusakabe: It’s about to become clear / what happened here three years ago.
