Text This is the world of the past for the Curse of Ice, who hates Jio...

1 Oh, Sei.
2 Welcome back.

[2]

1 ...What are you holding?
2 A cat corpse?!

Text (top) [ad]

Text (right) The frozen kitten corpse... So the killer really was...?!

3 I killed it.

Chapter 23: The Ice Demon
[T/N: demon: literally translated as 'magic person'. Compare with 'magician' (magic user)]
Kirihata Ayumi

[3]

1 Why?
2 Hm?

3 It got run over by a carriage...
4 It was dying... // And I didn't want it to suffer...

5 I see.
6 Well then, let's bury it.

[4]

1 Sei, help me dig the hole.

2 Kai, why're you home so early today? Are you out of a job?
3 How rude! // I'm off duty, off duty, you hear me!

4 So they're brothers? They get along well.

SFX drift

5 Woah, // It's snowing.

SFX fall fall

[5]

1 It's summer already, huh.

2 ...But I don't remember when summers used to be hot.

3 That's because you don't have any memories from ten years ago.
4 But until ten years ago, summers were hot.

5 I'm glad there aren't anymore summers.
5 (text) Does anyone even like the heat?
6 Heat has its nice points as well.

SFX zip

SFX shhhhh shhh
7 ?!

8 Unusual weather.
9 Ten years ago.
10 As expected,
11 The demon---

[6]

1 ---What...?
2 Just now...

3 Sei, are you being bullied by your friends?
4 Not really.

5 You gotta hit them back if they hit ya!

6 But I'm not weak like Brother, so I can't really hold back very well.
7 Huh?!

8 Sei, you just said something absolutely inexcusable.

9 I can't hold back?
10 No!

[7]

1 I'm said to be the strongest amongst the city guards, y'know?!

2 ...
3 You don't believe me?!
3 (text) You're giving me that nasty smile!

4 I believe you.

5 But ever since the seal on the demon broke ten years ago, there have been more and more magical beasts, and they're becoming

increasingly aggressive...
6 If you're a city guard, then it's dangerous no matter how strong you are.

7 I don't want Brother to run into any danger, so---...

SFX Heh...

SFX pull
8 ?

[8]

1 Thanks.

2 As expected, it really is nice to have family. // You'll try your best at everything for their sakes.

3 Brother,
4 But I'm...

5 You're my younger brother.

6 Even though we're not blood-related...

7 ...The day the demon seal broke ten years ago was hell.
8 I was still a kid back then so I couldn't protect anyone, but...

[9]

1 I rescued you, a young child.

2 You... and this city are my purposes in life.

3 Brother...

4 I, too, // am really glad I'm your br...
5 clang clang

6 !

7 A monster! // I'm off. Sei, stay in the house.

[10]

SFX rumble

1 The hell's with this huge army?

2 And to top it off...

3 That ice beast
4 Is stupidly strong!

SFX roar

[11]

1 spit

2 klang

[12]

1 crackle

2 Sei...

[13]

1 Kai, his Holiness has summoned you.
2 Huh?

3 The hell? What's his Holiness got to say to me?
4 Man, this sure is nerve-wrecking.

5 Ah, Sei? // You want to appoint him as a guard for his great efforts? // But I don't want him to get into dangerous stuff.

[14]

1 Welcome home, brother. Rather late tonight?
2 I got summoned by his Holiness.

3 Eh...
4 He has ordered that we head off on a journey the very next day.

5 You? // A journey?
6 You're coming too.

7 His order is as follows:

8 Seal the demon,
9 Save the world.

[T/N: save the cheerleader, save the world heh]

[15]

1 The closer we get to the sealing canyon, the more monsters there are, huh.
2 Looks... like it.

3 Brother, are you okay? // Don't push yourself, you're frail after all, brother.
4 I'm not pushing myself, y'know. // And I'm not weak!

5 Haha.
6 But the monsters are gonna go away if we seal the demon, right?

[16]

1 Yeah.
2 The world will revert to what it was like before the demon seal was broken...

3 All right! Let's move on.
4 Ah, wait, brother!

[17]

1 "You're frail after all, brother"... huh...

2 No, // Sei.
3 You're wrong.

4 It's impossible for normal humans to freeze an ice beast with magic, see...
5 The only thing that can pull it off is...

6 Only magical beasts are capable of freezing magical ice beasts.

7 And there is only one species that takes on a humanoid form.

[18]

1 The ice demon.

2 "Seal away your younger brother"---... // Huh...
