It was fun drawing them as little kids.
Yuu was so cutely moronic as a little kid.
(Kind of like the current Souka, no wonder you guys get along so well...)
In chapter 11 Katou skipped the confession and went straight to proposing marriage to Souka, but the readers didn't seem very surprised.
Maybe everyone thought "Hmm, with Katou, anything can happen".
