Chapter 744
01
Title: File 744 Revelation
Text: Is it just a prank? Or...!?
02
Apollo: You can read English?
Conan: Yeah.
Conan: It looks like some kind of poem...
Conan: but I'm not sure what it means.
Ares: Oh, there you are!
SFX: Run run...
Margin: This boy was given a strange paper by a mysterious man...
Ares: Don't go off on your own!
Ares: I've been looking for you!
Box: Ares Ashley (30)
Conan: Who's he?
Apollo: My sister's old coach, Ares!
Ares: Japanese?
Apollo: He used to be a really good tennis player!
03
Apollo: He got to know my mom when he was coaching my sister, so he helps us out a lot now!
Apollo: My sister's busy on tour and my mom has bad eyes.
Conan: I see.
Ares: Let's get back! Her game's about to start!
Apollo: Ah, but...
Conan: Go! I'll take this to the police.
Conan: And by telling you to take this text to the police, he was giving you time to think about it. That means it's unlikely anything's going to happen right away!
Apollo: Th-that's right.
Apollo: I'll give you my cell phone number, so call me if you figure anything out!
Apollo: I'm Apollo Glass!
Apollo: What's your name?
Box: Apollo Glass (8)
Conan: Edogawa Conan.
Conan: One of Holmes's apprentices.
Apollo: See you. Make sure you call me!
Conan: Okay!
SFX: Run
Ran: What's going on? Who were those people?
Agasa: Was there some kind of trouble?
Mouri: Don't tell me something's happening even on our trip overseas.
Conan: Then you're not going to want to hear this.
04
Mouri: What!?
SFX: Roar
Mouri: You have a cryptogram from some guy predicting a murder!?
Mouri: Is that true!?
Conan: Yeah! That Apollo kid told me about it!
Agasa: Well? What does it say?
Conan: Let's see.
Conan: The first line is...
Conan: "A rolling bell rises me."
Conan: The second line is "I'm a long nosed wizard in a castle."
Conan: The third is "My portion is a chilled boiled egg like a corpse.
Conan: The fourth is "I finish with a whole pickle."
Conan: The fifth is "Now I remember to ask for a cake to celebrate in advance."
Conan: The sixth is "It rings for my hatred."
05
Conan: And the seventh and final line is...
Conan: "It tells me to finish everything...
Conan: by piercing a white back with two swords."
Ran: Wh-what's with that poem. It's really disturbing.
Conan: The man predicting the murder said it was his "Revelation".
Agasa: Did he mean it was his plan for the crime?
SFX: Flash
Mouri: Just ignore it!
Mouri: It's probably just a prank by some crazy guy!
Conan: But I promised Apollo...
Conan: I'd take this to Scotland Yard!
Text: Wimbledon Center Court
SFX: Cheering
06
SFX: Whap
07
SFX: Bounce
Announcer: Game, set, match...
Announcer: Glass!!
Box: Minerva Glass (22)
SFX: Cheering
08
Agasa: Ehh!?
Agasa: They said there have been a lot of other people who have received that paper!?
Text: Scotland Yard (London Police Department)
Agasa: And it has only been given to children?
Conan: Yeah!
Conan: There were a lot of kids and their parents with the same paper!
Conan: A man with dark skin, with dreadlocks, and wearing a hat...
Conan: has been handing them out on the roadside, in parks, and various other places!
Conan: And he always whispers in their ear that someone is going to die in London soon!
Ran: W-wait a second...
Ran: That Apollo boy was told that someone would die before his eyes, right?
Mouri: Hey, now. If he told all those other kids that...
Agasa: I-it couldn't be...
Conan: Yeah, someone is going to die before the eyes of all those kids.
Conan: In other words, a lot of people could be killed all at once.
09
Ran: A-a mass murder!?
Agasa: H-here in London!?
Mouri: That would mean he's planning on doing it somewhere a lot of people have gathered.
Agasa: Right now, Wimbledon Tennis comes to mind.
Ran: That's it! Everyone's watching the matches on TV!
Conan: No. There were a lot of kids with the paper that were wearing helmets for bicycle racing, so I don't think that's it!
Conan: They said they've been glued to the TV watching the Tour de France.
Mouri: Tour de...the hell's that?
Conan: A bicycle race in France that starts at the beginning of July and lasts about a month!
Conan: Both it and Wimbledon are broadcast at about the same time, so you can't watch both.
Mouri: That leaves places like the British Museum...
Ran: And Buckingham Palace.
Conan: Anyway, go check out places at which a lot of people are likely to gather!
Conan: We might figure something out.
Conan: I'll try to crack this code with the professor!
Agasa: H-hey...
Ran: W-wait!
Ran: We're eating with Diana-san at the hotel tonight!
Conan: I'll be back by then!
SFX: Run...
10
Agasa: You should have just cracked the code while investigating with them.
Conan: Splitting up is a good way to get information!
Conan: Especially since we don't know when or where something's going to happen.
Conan: And if I deciphered the code there, I'd be acting too much like Kudou Shinichi in front of them.
Agasa: You already are..
Conan: Let's start with "A rolling bell rises me.".
Conan: Could it be referring to an alarm clock?
Conan: The next line, "I'm a long nosed wizard in a castle", probably refers to a castle somewhere.
Conan: Lines 3, 4, and 5 all have to do with food.
Conan: A boiled egg, a pickle, and a cake.
Conan: If the sixth line, "It rings for my hatred", refers to another clock...
Conan: and the "two swords" in the last line points to a blade or some kind of dangerous weapon...
Conan: Then the simplest interpretation is that something is going to happen somewhere near a castle-like building where there are two clock shops, a grocery store or cake shop, and a sword or weapons store.
Conan: We need to buy a map to see if there's anywhere like that in London!
Agasa: O-okay...
11
Mouri: The British Museum...
Mouri: Buckingham Palace...
Mouri: Hyde Park...
Mouri: Well, we've gone to all the places where a lot of people are likely to gather.
Ran: But nothing seemed suspicious.
Ran: And no one was handing out weird papers.
Ran: Well, at least we got to sightsee around London.
Mouri: Don't be stupid!
Mouri: When you're checking to see if anyone suspicious is around, you can't focus on sightseeing!
Mouri: I'm going to go buy some drinks, so wait here!
Ran: Okay...
Ran: A code, huh?
Ran: I took a picture of it...
Ran: I can't read it at all.
Ran: But...
12
Ran: Shinichi'd be able to.
Ran: It'd be hard to call him for help now...
Ran (flashback): Shinichi, you idiot!
Ran: since I yelled and hung up on him.
Ran: I guess it isn't that surprising he wasn't in a good mood.
Shinichi: I gotta go.
Ran: It must have sounded like I was bragging that I got to come here.
Ran: I'm such an idiot.
Ran: I got all excited on my own.
SFX: Close
Ran: I even searched online to make this.
Ran: I'm really...
Ran: an idiot...
13
Minerva: Worried about love?
Ran: Eh?
Minerva: Oh, was I wrong?
Ran: Ah, well... It's something like that...
Minerva: You can't ask him for help, then...
Minerva: He isn't an expert in that field.
Ran: He who?
Minerva: Him!
Ran: Ah...
14
Ran: Sh-
Ran: Sherlock Holmes!!
Ran: Oh! We came back to Baker Street and I didn't even notice.
Minerva: Oh, are you Japanese?
Ran: Y-yes...
Ran: Oh, y-yes...
Minerva: Hearing the language really takes me back. I used to live in Japan.
Minerva: My mother underwent eye surgery there, so she was in a Japanese hospital for a while.
Ran: U-um...
Ran: By any chance...
Ran: Are you Minerva Glass!?
Ran: The tennis player!?
15
Minerva: Shh!
Minerva: Not so loud. It'll get hard for me to come back here!
Minerva: Yes. I wanted Holmes to bless my powers of observation and perception to help me win my final match in Wimbledon.
Ran: So you really like Holmes.
Minerva: Yeah, my mother affected me greatly in that regard.
Minerva: My father's German and my mother's British.
Minerva: She's a Sherlockian through and through.
Minerva: Since she lost her eyesight, she's only been able to read Conan Doyle's works in Braille.
Minerva: My father and sister six years younger than me both died in a traffic accident 8 years ago.
Apollo: Minerva!
SFX: Run...
Minerva: When my father died, my mother was pregnant with Apollo over there!
Minerva: So right now I'm the central pillar of the Glass family!
Apollo: I thought he would still be around here, because he hasn't called, but he isn't.
Minerva: That's too bad...
Apollo: He really was an apprentice of Holmes!
Ran: U-um...
Ran: How did you know I was worrying about love?
16
Minerva: You had the same face...
Minerva: I used to see in the mirror.
Ran: Eh?
Ran: So you used to worry about love, too?
Minerva: Yes, but I'm over it now.
Minerva: It's just as Holmes said:
Minerva: "Love is an emotional thing...
Minerva: and whatever is emotional is opposed to that true cold reason which I place above all things."
Minerva: It's the same in tennis.
Minerva: Love is 0.
Minerva: And no matter how many times you add up "0", you'll always lose miserably.
Box: To be continued in Issue 39
Margin: The mysterious Revelation and Ran's love worries...The next chapter is a must-read!!
