Chapter 49
01
Abidani: This is the final match of the 3 dice battles that are tied at 1-1!!!
Abidani: This dice throw completes the final judgment!!
Abidani: Here is the judgment of fate!!!
SFX: Toss!!
Title: Fight 49: The Final Judgment
Margin: A demon throws the die of conviction!! Gambler vs. Demon. Which one will die!?
02
Margin: Everything is left to fate with Abidani's throw!! The loser will be burnt up by 1200 degree flames!!
SFX: Land
Mizuhara: I-it's in!!
Natsumi: Tomu-senpai's odds are 1/6!!
Nana: If it's from 1 to 5, we win!!!
Yuka: But we win with a 6!!!
Yuka: Come oooon!!!
03
Mayo: I win. That die can only get a 1!!
Mayo: Heh heh...
Mayo: It's over, Gambler Shirasagi Tomu!!
SFX: Roll roll roll
Crowd: Wh-what will it be!!?
Text: Ohhhh!
Crowd: Hanasaki!? Or Shirasagi!?
Tomu: The New Testament.
SFX: Roll roll roll
Tomu: In the Book of Revelation, the number of the devil is...
04
SFX: Stop!!
Tomu: 666!!!!
05
Mayo: ...What!!!??
Team Shirasagi: Y-
Team Shirasagi: Yeeeesssss!!!!
06
Crowd: 666!!!
SFX: Cheering
Crowd: Shirasagi won the final judgment!!!
Crowd: Shirasagi came back to win!!!
Mayo: Ridiculous! How!?
Mayo: I used the heat to change its center of gravity so it could only be a 1!
Abidani: You novice. You rushed your victory and got caught in a simple trick.
Mayo: Eh!?
07
Abidani: Look!!
Abidani: Those are the dice used before the rule change.
Mayo: There are only 5!?
Mayo: There should be 6!
Abidani: Shirasagi swiped one when the dice were switched out.
Abidani: And of course he knew it was one that would get a 6.
Tomu: Oh, you saw?
Tomu: Then why didn't you say anything?
Abidani: I'm the witness. I have to stay impartial.
Abidani: Even if I know what your trick is, I'll keep my silence!!
08
Abidani: He bet on the fact that you would choose 6-6 under these rules. He knew you would try to end this all at once when you asked to up the points.
Abidani: This way, it didn't matter how you messed with the dice. He pretended to choose a third die and handed me the 6 die.
Mayo: B-but he couldn't have!! He can't see the "marks" on the dice.
Abidani: He couldn't have known which one would get a 6!!
Tomu: And that's why you felt safe choosing 6-6,
Tomu: right?
SFX: Heh...
Mayo: You can't mean...you figured it out!?
09
Mizuhara: Wh-what's going on!?
Mizuhara: Weren't you struggling this much because you didn't know what the mark was!?
Tomu: I only pretended I didn't know so Hanasaki would let her guard down.
Tomu: The dice's centers of gravity could be altered each turn.
Tomu: So the mark wouldn't be something fixed, right?
Tomu: Once I realized that, it was really quite simple. But that's also why I didn't notice it earlier.
Tomu: For example, if we lined these up like this...
Tomu: This one would get a 4!!
10
Tomu: And the others would get 4-6-5-1-3.
SFX: Tap tap
Tomu: They're "marked" telling me which way the center of gravity is set.
Mizuhara: I-I can't see it!! Where's the mark!?
Tomu: You know that if you add opposite sides of a dice, you always get 7, right?
Tomu: You can see 1 and 5 on this dice, so the other side is 6 and 2.
Tomu: And whether the 3 or 4 is on the left or right is the same for all dice of the same type.
Tomu: In other words, after you've seen 2 faces of a die, you can know what the other 4 faces are.
SFX: Push
Tomu: If I space them out so you can see three faces, everyone should be able to tell easily.
11
Tomu: From the back, the order is 4-4-6-5-1-3!!
Tomu: The side facing Hanasaki shows what the dice are set to!!
Crowd: Ah...
SFX: Shock...
Crowd: Seriously!?
Tomu: It's less of a mark and more of a code.
Tomu: The top and the side. That information told her what she needed to know.
Tomu: The clever part of this code is that every answer has 4 different patterns that could point to it.
12
Tomu: For instance, all of these are 1.
Tomu: And all of these are 6.
Tomu: You can't figure it out just by looking at what's facing up.
Tomu: Of course, Hanasaki could change what the dice were set to.
Tomu: But the dice I threw always followed this rule.
Yuka: W-wait a second!! That doesn't make sense!!
Yuka: If the number it was set to was pointing towards her, then the dice aren't following their center of gravity!!
13
Yuka: Abidani shuffled the dice each time!!
Yuka: They wouldn't just end up with the center of gravity pointing in the same direction each time.
Tomu: And if Abidani was in on it?
Tomu: This "dice code" trick...
Tomu: would only work if he was helping her!!
14
Mizuhara: Wha-...?
Natsumi: Abi was in on it!?
Tomu: Hanasaki and Abidani both knew the code.
Tomu: So he would always point the number the dice previously got towards her!!
Tomu: And if he lined them up in order from 1 to 6...
Tomu: she would be able to tell with a glance what each die would get.
Tomu: Isn't that right, Hanasaki?
Mayo: The plan was to have most of the dice already set to 6.
Mayo: If you threw a 6-6, I could win.
Mayo: But thanks to your various methods of shaking me, things didn't go as planned!!
15
Mayo: In the end, you never threw a 6-6.
Mayo: Thanks to that, the game went on longer than I wanted and you got enough data to crack the code.
Tomu: It was a difficult journey.
Tomu: At the same time as I was revealing your "magic"...
Tomu: I had to crack the "code" Abidani was helping you with.
Yuka: Damn it!! That's not fair, Abidani!! What happened to being impartial!?
Mizuhara: B-but if he was helping her, why didn't he say anything about seeing Tomu switch out the dice?
Tomu: Who knows. Maybe he took the impartial stance of letting us both cheat.
SFX: Point...
Tomu: At any rate, I defeated two people just now!! The first was Hanasaki Mayo.
Tomu: The other...
16
Tomu: was you, baldy!!!
SFX: Smile...
Abidani: You defeated me? Don't be silly, Shirasagi.
SFX: Smile
Abidani: If you had to get burnt to solve such a simple quiz...
Abidani: you haven't defeated me. In fact, you aren't even fit to step into the same ring as me!!
17
SFX: Grab
Mizuhara: H-Hanasaki!! When did she...!?
Natsumi: What are you doing!? Let go of senpai!!
Tomu: Hanasaki!?
SFX: Hold tightly
Mayo: Heh heh. You're right; I lost.
18
Mayo: And I'm prepared to meet my fate for having lost as the lead player for the Abidani Seminar!!
SFX: Pant pant
Mayo: I'm bravely offering my body to the flames of hell!!
Mayo: But Shirasagi!!
Mayo: I'm taking you with me!!
SFX: Focus
Abidani: Hya ha ha ha!! Well said, Hanasaki!! For that display of spirit, I'm awarding you a special diploma!!
SFX: Grab
Abidani: A diploma called "death"!!
Yuka: Stop, Abidani! Shirasagi won!!
Abidani: This isn't what you promised!!
19
Abidani: But I promised anyone who graduated from my seminar the right to take anything from the academy with them!
Abidani: If Hanasaki wants Shirasagi, what choice do I have!?
Abidani: I hope the two of you enjoy your graduation trip to hell!!!
SFX: Kachunk
SFX: Falling
Tomu: Kh...!!!
20
Abidani: This gamble is over!!!!
Abidani: Ave!!!!
[TN: The Japanese spelling of the Latin term "ave" is similar to the spelling of the "abi" in Abidani's name.]
