Located in the Chu-Sangaku National Park, a mountain range also known as the Hida Mountain Range. Boasting the third highest point of elevation in Japan, Mount Hotaka, the beginning of the 5th highest, Mount Yari, a steep 3000 meter peak in the Nagano Prefecture, and ranging to the Toyama Prefecture, and straddling the Gifu Prefecture, it is also called "The Roof of Japan". The name "Alps" was attached to it in the Meiji Era by the English surveyor William Gowland.

Article (Topmost Section): On the 5th day late at night, at the end of the year last December, member of the mountaineering association "14 Mountain"'s team which met with an accident, Mori Buntarou-san (20) safely descended the mountains to Oomachi City of the Nagano Prefecture on his own power. Mori-san, though weakened, is relatively healthy and is reporting the circumstances of the event to the Oomachi police. Elsewhere, following the recovery of Kase Akihiko-san on December 31st, this morning the corpse of Niimi Taku-san (21) by the testimony of Mori-san, was discovered by the search party helicopter nearby Mount Eboshi, and recovered. The survival of the remaining two team members is seen as unhopeful. (A related article is on the society page.)

(Second to Top Section): A miraculous return alive. On the 23rd day since they entered the mountains, 9 days after the planned descent. Feeling the survival of the team was hopeless, the Nagano Police had even planned to suspend the search on the morning of the 6th. That target, the the Oomachi Hot Spring Hotel, Mori-san gave the information that he had descended the mountain. The 5 members of "14 Mountain" entered the mountains last year on December 14th. According the their plan, starting at Oyashirazy in the Niigata Prefecture, to Mount Shirouma, passing the Ushiro-Tateyama Mountain Range to Mount Yari, they would do an all-mountain traversal of the Northern Alps with a planned descent within the year. On the 21st, a representative of the same association, Yuusuke Ninomiya, temporarily joined them on Mount Shirouma. According to

(Third Section): representative Ninomiya, "There were a few delays at that point in the mountain crossing, but things were going smoothly." However, at the end of a phone call made on a satellite phone on the 22nd, contact with the Tokyo Headquarters of the same company was cut off, and received no more news from the team. The company had their last communication in Kaerazu no Ken and the central original search began. Furthermore, when the planned day of descent, the 28th, passed, they submitted the request to the Nagano Police for a search. With top climbers representing Japan having an accident, a large-scale search from land and sky is occurring. [End of Paragraph]
On the 31st, Kase-san's body was discovered on Kaerazu no Ken. From the condition of the body, after having died from a fall, Kase-san's body was moved to a stable place, the team seemingly continued the traversal further. Afterwards, they moved to where the search is centralized, Mount Goryuu and Mount Kashima Yari. However, with the range of the search reaching a wide area, at that time due to strong winter-type pressure patterns, the bad weather has made the search difficult. From the start of January, the position of the search has been curtailed. The team is thought to have met with the accident on Mount Eboshi, far exceeding in progression on the traversal from where the search party had guessed. This point has also been part of cause for the trouble the search has faced. In order to find the remaining two people, and find exactly what happened among the mountains, we are still awaiting a full explanation. [End of paragraph.]
Commented the company representative Ninomiya, "To the many people very much troubled and worried by this, our sincere apologies. Today, team-member Niimi's corpse was recovered, but this sort of unusual result is regrettable. We will be continually believing in the survival of the other team members and searching with all available resources. And now last night team member Mori has descended the mountain on his own. Said to be the climbing world's last great unclimbed area. Aiming for that initial climb, that this time met with disaster, first convened last year in June.
