Kokou no Hito 132
To K2
-> RTS Page for Kokou no Hito 132
Only for use by OMFGG.
I made it...... after so long, I've finally reached the peak I strove so long for.
10 months and I made it through 13 volumes. I am now at the peak. I made it to the great Savage Mountain, K2. There is nowhere else to go.
But I still want to go higher.

Guy: Sir, we can now se Gasherbrum directly in front of us. If we take a quick turn around this mountainside, K2 will be right there. [This is written in the margins between the lines said in various languages. The English is broken so I'm translating that, too.]
Takemura: Okay.

Climbing Glossary
There are technical climbing terms that appear in "Kokou no Hito". Here, the terms appearing in volume 13 are explained!!
Pulmonary Edema - Brain Edema (P88)
An elevation sickness caused by a loss of pressure and a loss of oxygen at high altitudes. Pulmonary edema is when water oozes into the lungs from another organ, making breathing difficult. Brain edema is when a swelling occurs in the brain which causes motions out of harmony (you cannot walk straight ahead, and such), speech impediment, hallucination, irregular movements, and lethargy.
Low Oxygen Mask Training (P92)...........................(1)
A mask worn to limit airflow in order to make breathing more difficult, thus used for training in low oxygen situations.
Slackline (P109)...........................(2)
A game where you walk across a taut rope held with a pin for training. It was said to first stat in America's free climbing holy land, Yosemite, limbers tied ropes they weren't using anymore between trees so they could maintain their balance. They start at knee-high and are later escalated to above rock walls. At that point, for safety, a rope or sling is tied to the body as the person crosses. It later became generally fashionable and now a specifically used tape called a slackline can be enjoyed.
Light and Fast (P110)...........................(3)
Planning for the lightest equipment wait in order to speed up, it is an alpine style where one quickly goes right up to the peak. Many teams when unloading or choosing routes plan these right up to the peak, a small number of team members are sent up to the top. It is an "expedition style" and contrastive climbing method.
Akole (P111)...........................(4)
A village among the mountains found by car on the way to K2. As the entrance to the Baltoro Glacier. In order to get to K2 it is a one week to 10 day trek to the base camp.
Thread Hook (P113)
Making a V-shape hole in an ice wall, a pole setup in order to put a sling though.
V-Thread (P130)
With a long ice screw, opening a v-shaped hole in an ice wall for resistance, and a sling looped through as a fulcrum to guarantee safety. In order to economize on equipment, it can be maintained for a long time and requires reasonable skill to be created in a way that maintains safety. It has recently spread as a popular technique. Based on the person who discovered this technique, it is also called Abalakov.
Gasherbrum (P188)...........................(5)
Like K2, a peak on the border of China and Pakistan located on the Baltoro Glacier. It has peaks from I to IV. Peak I is also called Hidden Peak and is 8068m in elevation. Peak II is 8035m, both of which are among the fourteen Eight-Thousanders. Similar to the other 8000m broad peaks, if you go by car to the mountain village Askole it usually takes a less than one week trek in order to reach the inner area where it is located.
