Taka: This might be the end.
There's something I wanted to ask you,
Gintoki.
Why the hell did you decide
to participate in this war?
Was it to protect this country from them, the Amanto?
Or so your name would go down in history as a warrior?
Page 2:
Gin: I dunno.
One thing's for sure though, I'm not a well-behaved enough guy to die for anything like that.
That goes for both you and me.
We're definitely not as good as Zura or Tatsuma.
We don't get bushido, we're just a couple of good-for-nothing warriors.
But
there are some things that only good-for-nothings understand.
Taka: Gintoki,
if I die,
Page 3:
take care of sensei.
That's something I can only ask
of a good-for-nothing like me.
Gin: ..........
Then I'll ask a a favor of a fellow good-for-nothing, too.
Page 4:
Gin: Stay alive.

[We've come full circle.]

Zura: So,
you were here. ["were" in italics.]
I heard you went on a big rampage at the cram school.
How many times is this now?
So even the prestigious military training academy where geniuses that will carry this country's future on their shoulders gather
is good enough for someone of your caliber, is that what you're saying,
Page 13:
Zura: Takasugi?
Taka: Prestigious school where geniuses gather?
Don't make me laugh, Katsura.
All that's there are people only good at getting their parents money or getting through on connections.
I went on a rampage? All that happened was I was told to train seriously and I did.
I wonder what sorta future a bunch of guys that don't even know how to fight will lead us to?
I'm lookin' forward to it.
Zura: ......Takasugi,
does that make you happy?
There are people in this world that are poor so they could never learn to read.
People that would like to become samurai but cannot.
Taka: That's a prodigy that was specially allowed entrance to the school only due to talent for you.
I'm sure you'll become a fine samurai there.
Page 14:
Taka: One of those great Samurai
that die fighting for their family or their country or something.
Sorry, but I'm not interested in being a dull samurai like that.
Zura: Then
what kind of warrior do you want to be exactly?
Takasugi,
where are you intending to go?
Taka: ...I dunno.
SFX: ZAZA
Taka: If I knew that,
it wouldn't be hard.
Page 15:
Zura: !!
Guy: Takasugi,
it seems you've been looking after our little brothers.
A low-class warrior brat like you should know his place.
Looks like you need a special lesson from your senpais.
Taka: Looks like I'll actually get some serious training in this time.
Zura: Wait!! Can you still pursue the path of the warrior if you're going to settle a score from training with a personal battle?
And what's more, you're vastly outnumbered...!!
Guys: Is that Katsura? Oh, perfect. I don't care if you are an scholarship student,
we're just about sick of sitting next to a pauper that can't even afford to pay.
Everybody, let's take them down together!!
Taka: Did you see that,
Katsura?
There aren't
any samurai here.
Page 16:

SFX: DOH
Guys: !!
Gin: Gyaa, gyaa, gyaa, gyaa.
Geez, shut up.
Is it mating season around here, bastards?
Page 17:
Gin: If you wanna train, do it at the temple school.
Have you guys not even learned how to cut class?
If you haven't, how 'bout I teach you?
Guys: Wh-Who are you?!!
Gin: Go ta sleep.
SFX: DOH
Page 18:
Gin: Samurai shouldn't be half-assed. When it's time to act, you act with all you've got. And when you're skipping school, you slack off with all you've got.
Stick with me. Let's all go to sleep together.
Guy: Who said anything about going to sleep?!!
You ain't getting away with this!!
SFX: GOH GOH GOH GOH GOH GOH
SFX: DOSHAAA
Shouyou: ...Gintoki,
that was well said.
Yes... Those who call themselves samurai must not take half measures.
It's inexcusable to use superior numbers to bully people.
However, Gintoki,
Page 19:
Shouyou: a half-assed boy like you is 100 years too early to know how to slack off.
Gin: BUBERA
SFX: KOTSUN DOFAAA
Shouyou: In a quarrel, both parties are to blame... You two, please promptly bring them back to your school with you.
You two little samurai.
SFX: ZAH
Zura: ...Th... That's...
Taka: Yeah, I heard rumors about him.
SFX: ZURU ZURU (Dragging)
Taka: A samurai hauling around a white-haired kid had opened a private school
and he's not charging a thing, taking poor students, and teaching writing.
That's the head of the Shouka Sonjuku,
Yoshida Shouyou.
Insert: Memories of school----
Bottom: Gintama
...Lesson 516
