Bianchi: Listen, OK? These things we call Boxes originated from an idea to create weapons that were modeled after life forms found in nature.
That, and a set of 343-volume plans left by a biologist from the 4th century, Geppetto Lorenzini.

Bianchi: But, the designs in those plans were “over-technology.” That is, it was impossible to build those things based on the technology of the time.
Since it was regarded as an empty theory, nobody wanted to collaborate with Geppetto in his research. After his death, the design blueprints were treated like scrap paper, and his secret society stored them in a warehouse where they remained hidden for centuries.

Bianchi: Until they were discovered by three inventors.

Bianchi: Innocenti, Koenig and Verde.
They were members of that secret society.

[* Note the Italian and car references again: Geppetto is the name of Pinocchio’s father. XD Yes, THAT Pinocchio. Lorenzini is the name of the author who wrote the original story of Pinocchio. Yes, they’re both Italians. Innocenti is an Italian car and scooter manufacturer which was sold to De Tomaso in 1975. Koenig is a German-based high-end car tuner, and Verde (Italian for green) is the green Arcobaleno.]

The three of them found out that the flames emitted from the mafia legacy Rings were the optimal power source for the Boxes.
That cleared many of the technological problems they were facing, and they managed to build a prototype within five years.

Besides the original 343 Boxes based on living things, they also researched and developed new types of Boxes.
For example, the Storage Box, or Boxes containing tools or weapons were created by them.
生物を模したオリジナルの343のボックスを作るかたわら新しいタイプのボックスも発明・開発をしたわ
保存用のボックス道具や武器のボックスは彼らの作よ

Bianchi: It was their mistake, but until recently, they sold many of the Boxes to the mafia at a very low price, thinking only to continue funding their research.
But, two of the three scientists are now dead.
つい最近まで彼らは研究資金調達のため今では考えられない安価で多くのマフィアに売っていたわ

Lal: After that, Koenig, the only one left alive, slipped underground.
It’s said that he continued to construct the Boxes, and he trades in them now as a weapons dealer…

Hibari: But, if you were to question for what reason the Boxes were made,
nobody can give a substantial answer.

Hibari: The true architect that’s made the Boxes to what they are now is…

Hibari: neither Geppetto, nor any other remarkable scientists.

Hibari: It was simply coincidence.

Kusakabe: That’s what it means.

Kusakabe: Many of the big discoveries and inventions of our world were
due to coincidental happenings near the inventor, leading to a flash of insight.

For example, the apple that led to Newton’s discovery of universal gravitation.
Nobel’s discovery of dynamite was due to a sample of loam he had that was soaked with nitroglycerine.
Of course, these miracles happened not just due to the coincidences, but the person himself must also have the aptitude and knowledge to understand it.

Kusakabe: Of course, such coincidences don’t happen that easily.

Hibari: But, everything about the development of the Boxes,
involved coincidences happening at a most unusual frequency.

Hibari: The more we find out, the deeper the mystery.

The Sky flame can open Boxes of all the attributes, but it cannot draw out all the powers of the Boxes of other attributes.

Bianchi: That’s to be expected, hm? I’m not the same as you.
