「あとがき―埋もれる世界―」
物語を想像することは、世界を創造することだ。これほど楽しいことはこの世にはない。私の場合、物語世界の創造は何かを付け加えてゆくものじゃなく、土に埋もれている世界を、土を徐々に取り除けて明らかにしてゆくものに近い。遺跡や化石を発掘してゆくことに近いかもしれない。ところどころ土の上に頭を出している部分もあるが、いま目の前に掘り起こされた部分とどんな具合につながっているのかは更に大きく土を掘り起こさなければ見えてこない。ひょっこり近くに見えているそれが、実際には大きな回り道の果てお到達点だったりすることだってあり得るのだ。「牙の旅商人」の初期の構想は、本当にわずかなイメージのカケラでしかなかった。廃墟の点在する荒野を、黒い馬車を駆ける謎めいた女と少年が旅している光景―そのイメージから全てが始まった。今はガラミィとソーナの駆ける馬車の周囲だけがほんのり明るく、彼女たちが旅した行程に沿って世界の輪郭が見えている。

[Afterword -A buried world-]

Imagining a story is like creating a world. There's nothing more enjoyable in the world than that. In my case, the story world isn't created by adding things on, but is like a world buried, being revealed bit by bit as the dirt is wiped away. It's like excavating ruins or fossils. There are parts poking above ground but you won't know what it's connected to unless you dig further. What you see up close might just be a part of a bigger detour when you look at it from far away. The initial concept of [Kiba no Tabishounin] was only a small fragment of an image. The sight of a mysterious woman and young boy riding a carriage in a wasteland dotted with ruins - that image was what started it all. Now, only their surroundings have begun to clear up, but as their journey continues, you'll have a clearer view of their world.

およそ作者である私に対してもそうなのだから、この世界はなかなか手強い。なんだか自分で方眼紙にマッピングしなけりゃダンジョンの構造も分からない昔懐かしのRPGでもプレイしているような気分だ。（オートマッピング当たり前でダンジョンの構造も迷子防止のためにシンプルになってしまった最近のゲームしか知らない向きには想像してもらえないかも知れないが、迷子になることもRPGの醍醐味の一つだった時代があったのだ。閑話休題。）さて、この第2巻までに世界の姿はある程度見えてきた。北の国カラディアと南の国バルサールの戦争。屍霊術師を抱えるゾラ教団の暗躍。世界の各地に生息する「ガロン」や「闇人」といった亜人たち。ガラミィの属する武器商人ギルドという集団。しかしながら、この世界の根幹をなすガラミィが背負う運命はまだ物語に姿を現していない。こればかりは本当に初期の構想からずしんと存在しているのだが。それは彼女の登場の瞬間からずっと背負うっている、まだ一度も抜かれていない大きな剣に関係している。次巻からいよいよその上を覆っている土が取り除かれてゆくだろう。ガラミィとソーナの旅路にお付き合い願いたい。

Since it's pretty much the same for me, the author, the world is pretty difficult. It feels like I'm playing one of those old RPG's where if you don't map things out on graph paper, you'd easily get lost. (It might be difficult for people that only play the recent games that always have open and simpler maps that prevent players from getting lost, but there were times when getting lost was one of the best things about RPG's. Back on topic.) Now, with this second volume, the world is starting clear up to a certain extent. The war between the northern country Kaladia, and the southern country Balzaal. The movements of the Zora cult and its necromancers. The demi-humans [Garon] and [Dark Ones] living around the world. The Weapon Dealers Guild which Garami belongs to. But Garami's destiny which is at the center of this world has not yet appeared. It has existed since the mangas initial concept. That is related to the giant sword she has had with her since her first appearance but never used. More will be revealed in the next volume when more of the dirt is lifted. I hope you continue to join Garami and Souna on their journey.
