This apartment building has a will of it' own
日本では古い物に魂が宿るっていう考えがあるでしょ
In Japan we believe that souls dwell inside ancient things, right?
古い物が妖怪に変化したり　一つの生物として確立してしまうの
And that these ancient things can shift forms into spectres and the like, completely establishing itself as a single creature

ちょっと待ってよ　それは昔の人の妄想。。。つか物語りで
Hold on, those are the myths that people believed in the past... I mean, they're stories.
アメリカにもあるわよそういう家
They exist in America too, these kinds of houses

アメリカの場合は家に悪魔が取り憑いて人を食べちゃうとかだけどね
But in America, The houses are possesed by demons and eat people and stuff.
日本のそーゆー概念って一神教文化の国では起こりにくい発想だから興味深いわ
The notion of this in Japan is- it would be difficult for a concept like that to occur in a country with a monotheistic culture so It's pretty interesting.

That's not it... I mean I'm not really afraid of ghosts or anything though

So the play on words here is
Okuyama no Shikimi
Shikimi is the name of the Japanese Anise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_star_anise
Okuyama means a secluded mountain.
Okuyama no Shikimi is the beginning of poem 4476 in the Manyoushuu
okuyama no, shikimi ga hana no, na no gotoya, shikishiku kimi ni, koiwatarinamu
in the secluded mountains, the flower of the anise, together with it's name, to you who is weeping, leave all of their love. Or something like that. I'm not good at classical japanese!

Uhhh since I doubt we have any poems that have anything to do with the star anise. I just used the "star" part of it and used "sky" instead of secluded mountain. At least that way there can be a connection for the stars and the sky.

Don't know if you want to keep it as Shikimi Fields or Star Anise Fields so the reference as to why the whole introduction had them in there is clear.
