空木基海、１３歳。アヤしいアパートに移ったら、アヤしい人がいたわけで。
Utsuki Motomi, 13 years old. If he's moved into a "strange" apartment complex, it's because there are "strange" people that live there.

This building is definitely abnormal.
不審な住人ばっかでさ
All the residents are sketchy

そんなことないわよ　だっておじいちゃん何年もそこで暮らしてるのよ
That can't be, your grandfather has lived there for years.

What did your grandfather say about it?
だからー　じいちゃんもへんなんだってお母さん何とか言ってよ

Mom doesn't worry about her kid. And I'm her only child...

あいつも忙しそうだな　何の仕事してるか知らんが
She seems like she's real busy. Though I've got no idea what she does

俺もよく把握してないけど
I don't have a good grasp of it either
あいつは子供の頃から人の話を聞かんヤツでな　一人で何でも勝手に決めて　親には事後承諾よ　進学も就職も結婚も離婚も
She's the type that never listens to what people say- been like that ever since she was a kid. Deciding everything by herself and then getting our consent afterwards. That's how it was for her school, her job, her marriage, her divorce...

小説雑誌の担当さん　あたしのパパ小説家なの　ハッシュ　ランチェスターっていう。。。
She's the manager for a magazine for novels. My father is a novelist. His name is Hash Lanchester.

あの人フリーの編集者なんだけど　彼女の担当作家は一度も原稿を落とさないって聞くわ
She's a freelance editor but I heard that the writers she manages have never had their manuscripts turned down.

ふーん　腕利きなんだ
Hmmm then she's pretty skilled

This is the first time I've been in a room for a bachelor but

ちょっと家庭の事情でね。。。　当面の保護者であるじいちゃんが　ここを動きたがらなかったからさ　
中学生じゃ　アパート貸してくんないし　バイトもできないしさ
Some issues in the family... My grandfather who's my current guardian didn't want to move from here and as a middle school student I can't rent an apartment or get a job.

なんかさあ　不便な　年齢よね
It really is an inconvenient age to be around
社会的にも自立できないもんね
I mean, it's not possible to be socially independent

あたしなんか実年齢的にはすっかり大人なのに外見が１３歳のままだから　年々ギャップが広がっていくわ
For me, despite being a completely adult in terms of my actual age, my outward appearance stays that of a 13 year old. And year by year that gap widens.

Do you say that sort of stuff at school too?
日本人　そーゆージョークはちょっとビミョーだからやめたほうがいいとおもうよ
That sort of joke might be considered in bad taste by Japanese people so I think you should probably stop.

Huh? But middle school is part of Japanese compulsory education.

For some reason, this apartment complex attracts many strange things
この建物自体物の怪みたいなものだしね
The building itself is, after all, sort of like a spirit

Who's that? A painfully plain looking person, and on top of that, in a track suit.

It's Misono-san in her "day off" mode

ジャージはなにだけど、めがねもいいかと思ううわけで。
What's going on with that tracksuit, though I do think the glasses are nice.

次回登場は９月号の予定。さらに面白い住人の存在が発覚します。
The next appearance is scheduled for the September issue. Even more will come to light regarding the existence of these interesting residents.

ochanomateki: ochanoma is basically the living room. It's a room where people used to have tea, but now it's generally regarded as the tv room. Ochanomateki is something that is intimate, but also may be popular or in season. Ochanomateki conversation or something like that. Friendly neighborhood might do well in that sense as it gives a sense of intimacy and playfulness and you get a reference to spiderman in there too which works well with something out there like a "hell girl" for that matter.
