Guy: Ah, you're finally open huh?

Aunt: That's right, thanks to your patronage.

やー　あたし　店　開いてたもんだから　てっきり帰ってきたのかと。。。

今頃　ひなびた旅館で二人して住み込みで働いてんのよお！
Guy4: They're probably living and working together at some back country hotel

Guy: You're saying stuff that belongs in some old drama

今　思うとあの旦那　何か影　薄かったよな　いろいろ気苦労あったんじゃねえのか？ムコ養子だし
Guy2: Thinking about it now, her husband was always overlooked. Must've had a lot on his mind. After all he was an adopted bridegroom.

いやァ女はねえ　どんなに強くても　”あなたを頼りにしてるわ”っつう姿を見せとかねえとダメよ

Aunt: As expected, not many customers today.
まあね　ずっと休んでていきなり開けたからね
Kanae: Well, we were on break for a while and suddenly opened up.

Aunt: I made some stew so take it off the stove.

ーお客さんに　いろいろ　訊かれなかった？
Aunt: Haven't the customers been asking about things?

いや訊かれないわよ　訊かれたって何も言わないわよ
Aunt: No, they haven't been asking. Even if they did I wouldn't say anything.

Kanae: It's fine, say whatever you want.

気が強い嫁でムコ養子に逃げられたって
Kanae: After all, I'm the spunky wife who's adopted bridegroom ran out on.

News: -was discovered by linemen working on a power line.
通報を受け地元の警察が身元を鑑定したものです
News: The local police who were alerted confirmed the identify of this person.
遺体は身長１７５センチ前後２０代から３０代の男性と思われます
News: It appears that he was 175 cm tall and in his 20s to 30s.
遺体は白骨化が進んでおりその状態から死後１年以上と推定されー
News: The remains were already decomposed into a skeletonized state and he was presumed to have been dead for upwards of 1 year.

Aunt: What a bother. If my back didn't hurt I'd be able to help you.
いいのよ　お客さん　少なかったし　適当にやるから
Kanae: It's fine, there weren't that many customers so I'll just do a bit.

組合に手伝ってくれる人紹介してもらうって話
Aunt: You said that the union was going to refer you to someone who could help out

Kanae: Oh, that.

なんか　人は決まったんだけどいつ来るか決まってないんだって
Kanae: Well, they said that they found someone but they didn't say when they'd come.

Aunt: What does that mean?

Aunt: Well don't over do it.

Kanae: Geez, what are you barking about

えっ！？　あっ何？　ちょっとアンタだれ！？
Kanae: Eh!? What? Who the heck are you!?
あ　いや　どうも。。。
Hori: Ah, erm, hello...

呼び鈴を何度も押したんですけど応答がなくて
Hori: I rang the doorbell over and over but there wasn't any response
そしたら門が開いてたもので。。。
Hori: And the door was open so...

門のカギしめ忘れたのか。。。
Kanae: I forgot to lock the door...
私は堀といいます　銭湯組合の大村さんの紹介で来ました
Hori: My name is Hori, I'm here on introduction by Oomura san from the public bath union.

Kanae: Huh!? Ah, then you're the person referred by the union!?
そうですけど。。。
Hori: Yeah, that's right...

Kanae: Ahhhhh...

防災管理取扱と危険物取扱資格も持ってるんですね
Kanae: So you've got the qualifications for disaster prevention and hazardous materials management.

Hori: Yes.
ボイラー技能士の資格まであるんですね
Kanae: And you're even a qualified boiler technician.

Hori: Yes.

木村さんから伺ったと思うんですけど　悪いんですけど今回は一時的な仕事で恒常的な雇用ではないんですよ
Kanae: I think you've already heard from Oomura san but... Sorry, this is just a temporary job, it's not going to be long term.

どうせ誰かから聞くでしょうから　いってしまいますけど　２ヵ月ほど前にうちの共同経営者ー　私の夫ですけど　が失踪したんです
Kanae: At any rate, you're bound to hear it from someone so I'll just come out and say it. About 2 months ago, the co-manager, my husband, disappeared.

事件に巻き込まれたのか　彼の意思で消えたのか　今のところわからないんですけど　ここは私たち夫婦と手伝いの　おばさんの３人でやっていたので営業が立ちゆかなくなってしまったんですね
Kanae: I don't know if he got involved in some incident or if he disappeared on his own volition. It was us 3, my husband, me, and my aunt, who helps out, so we weren't able to continue operations.

このまま閉めてしまう事も考えたんですけど　まだ先の事を決められる状態でもないので。。。
Kanae: I thought at that rate we would have to close but, I'm still not in a state where I can make a decision about the future.
いつも来て下さる　お客さんの有望もあって　当面　営業を続けることにしたんです
Kanae: There were also the desires of our customers who always come here, so presently we've decided to continue running.

営業を続けながら旦那さんの帰りを待つということですか？
Hori: So you plan on staying open while waiting for your husband to come back?

。。。いえ　そういうわけではありません
Kanae: ... No, that's not it.
もし彼が戻っても　元のままに収まるとは限りませんし。。。
Kanae: Even if he did return, it not like things would be able to return to the way they were before

要するに先のことはまだ考えていないんです　ひょっとしたら堀さんにずっといてもらって営業を続けるかもしれませんし。。。
Kanae: In other words, I haven't really thought ahead. It's possible that I would want to have you stay here and continue to manage for a while...
でもそれははっきりと約束できないので一時的な雇用になるということです　非常に不安定な条件ですけど。。。
Kanae: But I can't properly promise anything like that so it's just a temporary job for now. It's got some extraordinarily unstable conditions but...

Hori: Um...

釜場を見せてもらってもいいですか？
Hori: Could I take a look at the boiler room?

Kanae: Watch your head.

Kanae: This is the boiler room.
灰がけっこう出るので２日に一度は釜掃除をします
Hori: It produces a lot of ash so we clean it once every two days.
マキはここで切ります
Kanae: The firewood is cut over here
音のこともありますから夜８時くらいまでにその日と翌日のぶんを切っておきます
Kanae: It gets noisy so we prepare today's and tomorrow's portion until about 8 in the evening.

火を入れるのは何時頃なんですか？
Hori: What time about do you start the fire?
えっと　もうお昼だから。。。　そろそろですね
Kanae: Um, it's already noon so... it's just about that time.

Hori: ... would it be alright if I started today?

Kanae: ?
あっ。。。　はい
Kanae: Ah... Yeah.

申し遅れましたけど　私　関口かなえといいます　よろしくお願いします
Kanae: It's a bit late but I'm Sekiguchi Kanae. Nice to meet you.
こちらこそよろしく
Hori: Likewise, nice to meet you.

「待つ事」さえ選べないのに、できるのは待つ事だけ。身近な人がいなくなった時、ひとはどんな行動をとれるだろう。
Although she can't even decide to wait, all she can do is wait. When someone close is no longer there, what kind of actions can a person take?

Notes:
This is the series that ran in afternoon before Coffee Time. Unexpectedly it features another interesting set/theme for this drama in the form of a bath house. The motifs of washing/cleaning/time/flow all seem like they will work nicely with the story though. 17-19 look especially great to me. I really like the pacing in that sequence. So far, interested to see how Hori and Kanae's relationship develop and Hori's past!

むこさん (Muko san) and later MukoYoushi, or adopted husband/groom. It's basically where a family that only has daughters adopts a husband into their family to take care of family affairs, continue the family business, etc. I guess public bath houses must be one of those lines of work mostly run by families and a patriarchal figure is needed.

I don't really know much about bath house unions, but I guess they go on business trips. Left the union in there since it lets you know that he was part of the management.

kage ga usui, sometimes translated as overshadowed, or unimpressive... overlooked might be okay in this context.

its more like literally, if she doesn't show that side of her that says "I'm relying on you" it's no good. Maybe there's some way to work the quotations into it.

Gokurou is pretty much a pleasantry since these two seem pretty equal, but it sounds weird in english when she says good work to someone older than her.

Tekitou ni yaru... sort of like she'll just clean the appropriate amount, but I couldn't really render this into something that sounded natural.

I already translated gokurou as good work, so when she says otsukare i just rendered it as take it easy.

The whole referral / introduction business sounds weird in english maybe it's better to just leave those references out completely.

First line is even more redundant in the japanese... lol.
Run on explanations, most likely some better way to cut it up.

I couldn't really think of any english equivalent for "e." It's not really the full surprised "eh?" but just that she's a little taken aback. I hope "?" is enough! haha.
