THE MUSIC OF MARIE #10
tl by molokidan
The shrines of Tad, the land of pilgrimage, become filled with people from around the world during this 10-day period at the end of each year.
N: Various languages mix together, making language itself sound like music.
N: While the devotion to Marie across cultures is the same, the ways of praying and teaching differ.
N: Everyone prays for happiness in their own style.
P: Tall people...
K: What a lively way of praying.
P: Looks fun!
K: To the people from this island, sleeping is praying.
P: Ah, I'm good at that!
P: I don't understand, grandma...
K: Pipi...it looks like you're being prayed for...
P: Ah, thank you!
?: It appears that a very virtuous being is following you.
P: Haa...is that so?
P: Thank you very much.
P: Bye bye, grandma.
P: Heheheh! I don't really get it, but they said some great person is following me!
K: Doesn't look like it, though.
K: Well, whatever the case, those worshipers were really something.
P: Yeah, really! They can speak dozens of different languages, too.
N: There are tens of thousands of worshipers in Tad who pray and study Marie.
N: Anyone can become a worshiper regardless of ethnicity, gender, or age...but once someone becomes a worshiper, they must offer their entire body up to Marie, never leaving Tad as long as they live.
N: worshipers are very busy during the time of pilgrimage.
N: They take care of lost children, the sick, translate, and even listen to personal problems.
N: They are strong people capable of doing anything...these worshipers are charged with the care of the entire earth.
K: So cool...
P: Have they read all of "The Books of Marie," I wonder?
K: Who knows? There are more books than there are islands...
K: Don't you think it's about time we return to the others?
P: Heheheh! This is crazy...
K: Looks like we joined the wrong group, huh?
G: Is that so?
G: That sound destroyed Pipi's bird and the Damru automated machine doll...
G: Then, you heard a mad sort of sound coming from Marie...?
G: I see.
G: I've found the answer to a question that has plagued me up until now.
G: A horrible question...
G: We spoke about this before, haven't we?
G: About how the world before Marie was filled with warring people.
G: The people before us, however, possessed great culture and technology.
G: Automated machine dolls and automated calculation machines filled their lives.
G: Many people controlled massive bird machines capable of carrying them around.
G: It's said that they were even capable of creating man-made humans.
G: Did humans close in on the realm of God?
G: Are you keeping us humans from possessing technology that crosses a certain line?
G: Was the Marie we worship...
G: born for such a reason?
K: So...so that's it...
K: What an idiot I am.
K: How could I say such a thing to Mr. Goul. He's not just a man of the cloth, but a researcher too!
K: If the development of technology goes against the will of God,
K: then it becomes an act of conduct that a man of the cloth must not perform.
K: That means that no matter how much one researches,
K: one will never be able to develop new technology.
K: Was Mr. Goul's whole life
K: just negated...?
K: Forgive me, Mr. Goul...
G(2b): Some of "The Books of Marie" depict Marie was a beast or monster, and there are more than a few that even pen her down in the frightening image a huge poison-spewing flower.
G: Now, I finally understand the meaning behind it all...
G(2b): Human technology has not advanced for thousands of years. We have always simply found ourselves suffering over unexplained failures.
G: Unknown to the fact that we were being pulled along by that "line"...
G: That line should have simply been placed down on this world itself -- this world of "tools," which are no more than extensions of human hands...
G: Once things leave the hands of humans and become automated, entering the world of "machines," we become filled with avarice, and only want more and more.
G(2b): No matter how much we want to, we cannot advance...but our lives of fulfillment are protected.
G: We are like caged birds.
K: We're pet birds...?
K: of that gentle, smiling Marie...?
G: Marie isn't only gentle...
G: While that smile gently protects the human heart, it also steals the right of humans to progress.
G: It is both a gentle and cruel smile.
G: On the final night of the ten days, all of the people present continue praying for the entire night. Midst this sacred silence, the breath of every single human is swallowed up into the pit of heaven.
G: The shrines ring out the new year, and morning light pierces the land -- at that moment --
G: All the people with their differing languages, customs, and beliefs are joined together with Marie.
K: I can feel a forest passing through this place..
K: Every heart here is emitting a wonderful sound...
K: This is a blessed time...
K: Mr. Goul's tears, Marie's beautiful music, Marie's cruel music, the sexual love I have for Marie...
K: I've never experienced this moment with such complicated feelings before...
K: These shrines are birdcages?
K: We're broken-winged, pathetic birds standing under the monstrous sky?
K: Happiness with a catch...
K: I didn't want to know...
K: I wish i didn't have this ability...
K: I just...
K: I just want to be praying...
M: You who waits for the sign...
M: Now, the time has come...
