Page 8, song sung by Kyoukotsu's Daughter
This is an old song originating in the 15th or 16th century, originally created to help people remember the various major streets running through the capital at Kyoto. Children were taught it when they were young. As far as I can tell, the song lists streets running east-west, starting from the north and working downwards. For example, "Maru, Take, Ebisu, Ni, Oshi, Oike" are all short for the streets/places "Marutamachi, Takeyamachi, Ebisugawa, Nijou, Oshikouji, Oike". The song was especially popular in the Edo period, but kids in Kyoto are still taught it even today.
