Chapter 62: First opponent

Page 03

Ahh~~~~!!
T- Tanba-san went bald from the shock of the dead ball!
Don’t hide behind me…
I got a cold sweat back then
But it seems it wasn’t so serious.
Of course! Tanba’s face is harder than steel! // Like it would lose to a hard-ball.
His fist is like a rice-cracker.
No, that’ll break…
Just look forward until you get to play us.
You’re all so energetic…
Furuya, walk on your own!!
Impossible.
Want some water?
Furuya?

Page 04

Ewww~~!? That’s Furuya!?
His eyes are pure white.
Ah~~ The blondie from Inajitsu. // You’re here for getting infos out of us again?
It was you who kept talking…
Mh? You’re on the bench?
Of course!
Stop talking. (You’re revealing too much…)
Don’t lose until you get to play against us.
That’s what we should be saying!!

Page 05

Then, at the finals.
Yeah
At the finals------

Page 06

Lately, we get more and more presents.
Today we got another 3.
And the OB are coming everyday to watch us train.
We get this much every year.
Because lots of our OB were at the Koushien.

Page 07

Though I think that just raises the pressure on the players…
For now, I have to catch the ball properly.
Then step on the base!
Nice cover!!
That was a good move.
Well done, Furuya!

Page 08

Wraaaaa
Ball 3,
Make it to third base!!
(There)
Nice fielding!!
Not bad!
Just a fluke!
Hurry and return.
The daily practice sure paid off.
(Nice fluke)
(Right back at you!)
I just hope it keeps up at the real match…

Page 09

Ah
What are you doing? That was a bunt right in front of you, Kawakami!!
What are you messing up for? // Take an example of the first-years!!
I’m sorry. Please once more!!
Hey, hey. His movements are really stiff lately…
Reminds me, Kawakami barely has any experience of being in an important game right from the start.

Page 10

Could it be, Tanba-san’s absent
Is causing him quite the pressure?
Coach,
I took a look at the first round.
Our first opponent is
Maimon West High School.

Page 11

Number 1, a left-handed overthrow, Kikunaga Masaaki.
His speed is around 120 km/h. For breaking balls he got the curve and slider.

Page 12

This summer he was chosen as the ace as a second-year. In his first-year he protected the outer field.
His control isn’t all that good.
He’s the second oldest out of 3 brothers. His hobby is billiard. His older brother plays baseball too.
J- Just how much information is in that notebook?
Their batting order uses a lot of bunts…
And they rarely make any mistakes in fielding.
It gives off the expression they’re a defensive team that grabs one chance firmly and then protects it until the end.
The number 4 hit a lot of flies…
The left-fielder seems to have a good shoulder..
Good.
Thanks.
They took a first victory and are in full gear,
So don’t ever let your guard down.

Page 13

Whatever the opponent, we’ll go with full power.
By doing that, victory will come to us by itself!!
Yes!!
Also, the starting pitcher for the first game…
(D- Don’t tell me…)

Page 14

We’ll go with
The first-year, Furuya.
!
!!

Page 15

~~
I’m sure you know the importance of the first game,
But for us to keep winning this summer, we need back-up pitcher.
Kawakami!
Be ready to be placed in any time.
Eh…?
I can only ask this important role of you.

Page 16

C- Coach…
I’m counting on you.
Yes!!
He didn’t let him be the starting pitcher because he doesn’t trust him.
Because he specially trusts him, as he as plenty of experience as a relieve pitcher…
If he knows his role from the beginning, he won’t get uneasy and get fully concentrate on his role…
And what’s more
Furuya can stand on the mound without worries about his stamina if he has Kawakami covering for him…
You nervous?
Coach,

Page 17

I too will always be ready to pinch in!
…
Well… sure.
So quiet!!
The starting pitcher…
On a brand-new mound…
Furuya, you stay behind for a bit.

Page 18

Damn. What’s this uneasiness!?
I need to run!!
Guess I’ll tag along.
Sawamura
I saw it at the bull pen today… You stabilized your main pillar and got down your form.
Chris-senpai.
Your course is still a bit flawed, but you’re hitting more and more the strike zone.
If you’re so energetic, wanna throw a few pitches?
!!
You’re going to catch for me, Chris-senpai!?
Looks like “this” will be the last thing
I can teach you.

Page 19

Eh?
(Maimon West High School)
How was it? The guys from Seidou came to spy, right?
Yeah… They even took a video.

Page 20

I’m sure they’re looking down on us because we’re a public school.
I wonder about that.
They sure are!!
Fuhahahaha
I can see their surprised face already!!
The devil houses within carelessness.
Seidou High School is nothing to be feared.
