Kenta Hirono was a boy too immature for his age group, still living in a world of tokusatsu heroism. But after saving a mysterious girl and a magic notebook which he uses to create his own sentai hero, he may actually be becoming what he wanted!

(TN: I had a really hard time translating this part: “she” makes a comment “wa ja nai wa yo”, which is so simple but probably has several interpretations, including “it’s not ‘wa’ or “it’s ‘wa’ isn’t it” or perhaps, from her considering her confusion, “so then you’re ‘wa’”. But, I went with the one above due to the peeved look she has on her face)
Kenta: Ah, you’ve waken up…
“Girl”: Hey, isn’t this “Podreams”?
(TN: The name I’ve gone with from ‘her’ land that I went with, “Podreams”, is a combination of the words “polygon” [you’ll know soon enough] and “dreams”. I doubt it’s correct but I will change it if I have to later)
Kenta: What is that?
“Girl”: You don’t know of Podreams? Ah.

“Girl”: Perhaps this is the 3rd dimension!?
Kenta: Ge
Kenta: You…you can call it that. (I’m completely visible!)
“Girl”: So then…………
“Girl”: Kyaa
Kenta: Gege
“Girl”: Yes, I’ve actually escaped!!
Kenta: Uwaaaaa!

Kenta: That was astonishing; she didn’t embrace me for my appearance…N

“Girl”: I’ve done it, I’ve done it~~
Kenta: Ge, my hands are pitch black.

Kenta: But, the outfit for Wingman I created should be red. Nothing at all on it was black.

Kenta: What’s wrong, I can’t take the helmet off…

“Girl”: Do all of you 3-D people look like this?
Kenta: Not really. This style is just mine…

“Girl”: Ah, kya~~!

Miku: A—h, I did say that, but I really don’t know where Hirono-kun’s house is—I am a bit frank…
Miku: My feelings in facing Hirono-kun…have they been exposed to Kiyomi and the others—
Miku: …There’s nothing I can do even if I mope on it anymore…(out loud) Ah, snow…

“Girl”: What-is-that?
Kenta: Even if you feign stupidity…………
Kenta: YOU CAN’T…HUH?

“Girl”: What, you change forms frequently. Isn’t this some incredible power you have--?
Kenta: Well, perhaps.
“Girl”: ?
Kenta: Wasn’t the change in my form…
Kenta: Caused by this notebook you had?

“Girl”: You used that notebook?
Kenta: Aah, perhaps I transformed from drawing the picture in this…
Kenta: Huh, it won’t open.
“Girl”: But that’s strange. It shouldn’t allow you to return to reality and not open if it’s drawn in once, but.
“Girl”: …………
“Girl”: Ah—ri~ght, it’s the 3rd dimension. I’m sure abilities don’t last long here…
Kenta: Can you explain this to me too without complaining to yourself?

“Girl”: That notebook is called the “Dream Note”, it makes reality whatever’s written in it.
Kenta: Uhe—amazi—ng.
“Girl”: OK, I’ll take it back.
Kenta: Ah.
“Girl”: This notebook must be annihilated.
Kenta: Huh—
“Girl”: That’s why I’ve come to the 3rd Dimension.
Kenta: You can’t do that to the notebook…if that’s how it is, give it to me.
“Girl”: You have what’s called “fire” in the 3rd Dimension.
Kenta: Ah, yes…
“Girl”: A thing that is put into this “fire” becomes “ash”.

Kenta: That’s obvious. It will burn inside a fire…
“Girl”: That may be obvious to all of you but
“Girl”: Podreams doesn’t have this “fire”, and nothing can annihilate this notebook except that.
Kenta: …………H~~mm.
Kenta: You can’t have it at all!
“Girl”: Kya

Kenta: She’s really easy on the eyes…No; I’m wrong, poison to the eyes.
(TN: This is a language pun made by Kenta: the first thing he says about his staring is “Me no Toku”, with “me” as “eyes” and “toku” as “interest” or “profit”…and it’s obvious why. But then, Kenta switches “toku” to “doku”, which is Japanese for “poison”)

Kenta: But…well, if you’re throwing it out, then its better if I use it.
Kenta: If you do, then I can bring world peace. That can allow for a bright future.
“Girl”: So then, how can you bring peace by just transforming?
Kenta: Wingman is an ally of justice; a modern angel.
“Girl”: An-Al-Ly-Of-Jus-Tice?
(TN: “She” answers Kenta in Katakana; I tried to emphasize it by breaking it up into syllables)
Kenta: Right, an ally of justice, one who wishes for peace for humanity)

Miku: It’s here.
Sign: Hirono
Miku: I’m surprised, Hirono-kun……If a girl who shouldn’t know this house suddenly asked…
Miku: Somehow it’s become embarrassing…
Miku: What do I do? Should I go home having gotten to his gate~~but…
Woman: Ah, do you have some business with us?
Miku: Yes.
Miku: Eh…eeh, with Hirono-kun…

Kenta: Aah, he’s invincible. He can even leap tall buildings in a single bound.

“Girl”: This may be good…I don’t know what sort of power this “Wingman” possessed, but, if I use him well, then this may be better than annihilating the Dream Note.
Kenta: Understand! Thus I’ll!

THE SECRET OF THE BIRTH OF WINGMAN
This is the very first Wingman. When I was in 11th Grade, I created Wingman. This design used a work called “Tsubasa”, which took the “Good Work” Tezuka Award. Thus, Wingman has been kept around for 5 years, somehow or another.

And this is how it came. His name was “Tsubasa” and he was an android. Somehow he resembles Kenta.
(TN: A bit of time discrepancy: “Tsubasa”, the one shot that “introduced” Wingman, actually won the “Good Work” Tezuka Award (the lowest of the three levels for the award that, at that time, was lead by Osamu Tezuka in judging) for the first half of 1980. Since Wingman began in ’83, then the designs from “Tsubasa” were originally formed in ’78, which was five years before, submitted two years later for the Tezuka Award in ’80 and thus lead to the start of “Wingman” three years later in ’83.)

TN: The second chapter is a bit slow compared to what I expected, but it does introduce a lot of elements and further seems to develops the character interactions on several matters. First of all, the mysterious "girl" (she doesn't have a name as of yet so I won't reveal it) finally comes into play...and in some ways, if it weren't for being so exposed to so many other shonen I wouldn't have anything to compare her to. But somehow, "she" just seems to be a weird combination of Botan and Rukia with just a sprinkle of Lum in her. Her interactions with Kenta at this point are very cute and intriguing, particularly with her Dimensional Power, her being too preoccupied with her original mission of burning the Dream Note and just the whole excitement she has in making it to our 3-D world. (which probably proves Podreams isn't really going to be heaven) Kenta's interaction with her...well, I know some would say it is standard shonen romance, I found it rather fun: a male lead so immature that he really has a hard time putting up with girls. (well maybe not Miku but more like girls like "her") Kenta's interaction regarding the strange transformation to Wingman and the power of the Dream Note he now possesses was interesting too: while "banned weaponry that shouldn't be used" is a typical story plot of shonen, just the idea of such a notebook that can make "thoughts come alive" instead of "kills people" or something sick shows that it probably belongs with a person with an overactive imagination like his. (even if "she" probably wants to use him due to this) As for Miku...well, I know I hate making more comparisons to other series, but I really see her a bit like Hinata at this time. Slightly unconfident, knowing that she may like a boy who may like her in return but has a really hard time expressing herself. And of course, really cute. (then again "she"'s cute too but more with her weird and sweet and seductive expressions)
