Wingman 7
Nightmare
Gaining the power to become Wingman like he wanted is one thing...but it's bad enough that now Kenta has to have Aoi move in with him due to this! But unfortunately, that's not even the worst that could happen...not in his dreams!
Chp. 7: Nightmare
149.
Kenta: That author plays around quite a bit.
(TN: I’ve made quite a few comments on various tokusatsu heroes before this and here we have a couple “girl forms” for two. Gavan I’ve gone over before, but the other one is Kamen Rider ZX, the 10th Rider who, actually, only appeared in a TV special in January, 1984. (Not sure why she’s here though since this is still early in 1983)
150.
Kenta: --I’ve become Wingman, a true ally of justice…yes, now everyone will be completely surprised.
Kenta: Hey, listen up everyone! I can really transform into Wingman!!
151.
Kenta: No one believes me. Once more…
Kenta: No! Hold on: a transforming hero shouldn’t reveal his true form to everyone!!
Kenta: Sorry, sorry, I was just joking, don’t mind me.
Kenta: It’s best for an ally of justice to not let strangers know their true identity…
Kenta: But…I want to tell just Miku-chan. I want to show her my coolness.
152.
Miku: Hmph.
Kenta: Wh…what’s with that attitude? The misunderstanding should be cleared up…th…this is…
Kenta: I, I should be frank with my feelings…
Kenta: Mi…Miku-cha…ah, no, Ogawa-san, I…I…I…
Kenta: I LOVE YOU!
153.
Miku: Indecent people like Hirono-kun I rea~~lly hate!!
Boy 1: Ye—s, ye—s, you’re indecent!
Boy 2: Lecher!
Matsuoka: This is going in your record!
Kenta: Wh…what???
Kenta: N
Kenta: GEEEE!
Aoi: Ehe.
154.
Kenta: Uwaaaa!
Kenta: !!
Kenta: Uwa! Uwa!! Uwa!!!
Kenta: Wagyaaa
155.
Aoi: Nn~~what? You’re so noisy~
Kenta: Wh wh what are you doing sleeping in midair~~!!
Aoi: Huh, something strange about that?
156.
Aoi: This is ordinary in Podreams…
Kenta: Ah~I thought my heart exploded. Haa haa
Kenta: Use the futon!
Aoi: I floated spontaneously.
Kenta: Ca…can we live together with these different living environments?
Narrator: --One question hasn’t been asked here…this is about language—
Narrator: Though Kenta isn’t a very smart kid, he’s able to talk without concern to Aoi without realizing it…Japanese and Podreamese aren’t the same—
(TN: Language identification in Japanese is much easier with the addition of “-go” to the end of the name of a country. English doesn’t really have that identification unless you use something silly like “-ese” or “-ish”, so I went with the former…though it could also just be the language is called “Podreams” or “the language of Podreams”)
Narrator: SO THEN, WHY CAN THEY TALK TO EACH OTHER…!
Narrator: --Because it’s a manga………well that’s a joke; the answer is that there’s a peculiar ability possessed by people of Podreams that they are understood in the language used by the other when they transmit their language into the other’s brain, even when they’re speaking Podreamese! Similarly, their partner’s language is understood as Podreamese by them.
“Kenta”: What!
“Aoi”: Blockhead.
157.
Kenta: Morning…
Aoi: Good morn~~ing.
Mr. Hirono: What’s wrong, Kenta, didn’t you sleep well last night? You look blue.
Kenta: I became blue after that dream that I had…
Aoi: What, what was the dream?
Kenta: Huh, the dream?
Aoi: Yep.
Kenta: It, it was nothing…
Aoi: ?
Kenta: Well, thanks……for the fo~~od.
Aoi: …………
158.
Aoi: Hey.
Kenta: N?
Aoi: How do you use those?
Kenta: Fine, like this, like this…
Aoi: Right, right.
Mrs. Hirono: What’s that jarring sound below?
Kenta: N, no, it’s nothing.
Kenta: Really, you’re a lot of trouble.
Aoi: Hey, where are you going now?
Kenta: N, to school. School.
Aoi: Hm~~mm
Aoi: It would be fun to go too.
159.
Kenta: N, no! If you go to school without following entrance procedure, it will become outrageous.
Kenta: You don’t know about 3rd Dimension things, and you haven’t seen a middle school!
Kenta: Therefore, Aoi-san, you’re taking care of the house. Understand?
Kenta: N?
Kenta: !
Aoi: Come home soon…
160.
Kenta: I’m leav~~ing.
Kenta: Ah~~that was surprising…she suddenly embraced me…
Boy: Morning, Hirono.
Kenta: Hey.
Boy: Why are you so happy?
Kenta: Just a—m.
Boy: I thought you’d be disappointed your Wingman outfit was taken.
Kenta: I wasn’t on—that.
161.

Student: Morning—
Kenta: Ah.
Kenta: Mo, morning—Miku-cha…ah, no, Ogawa-san.
Miku: Ah, morning—
“Girl”: Huh, You greet Miku but not us? Hirono-kun!
Kenta: Ah—ah—good—morn—ing.
Kenta: Ah—good. What would I have thought if she had the same attitude as my dream.
162.
“Girl”: Ah—actually, Hirono-kun, she’s in the infirmary.
Kenta: Who?
“Girl”: Your cousin. Hirono-kun’s cousin. Aoi-san.
Kenta: Huh?
Kenta: HUH?
Kenta: HUUH~~~!
163.
Kenta: What does that mean? My cousin A-o-i is that Aoi-san…
Sign: Don’t run in the hall!
Kenta: Ha.
Kenta: Allies of justice don’t run in halls.
Kenta: What am I doing…I’ll know when I get to the infirmary.
Sign: INFIRMARY
Kenta: We~~ll.
164.
Aoi: HI—I
Nurse: Ah, Hirono-kun. This girl is fine. She just had some minor anemia.
Nurse: She can go to her first period class.
Aoi: Hehe, I used too much Dimension Power.
165.
Kenta: Why does everyone know you?
Aoi: Well, remember when I embraced you this morning, Ken-boy?
(TN: Aoi calls Kenta “Ken-bou”, using the “Ken” in “Kenta” and the “bou” which is Japanese for “boy”)
Kenta: Ke…Ken-boy?
Aoi: When I did, I separated out knowledge on the 3rd Dimension from you.
Aoi: And with that, together I selected out from your knowledge people who were connected to you…
Kenta: So just like what you did to my parents, you’ve implanted your existence subconsciously to all of them.
Aoi: Right, you’re smart on those things~~
Kenta: …………
Kenta: This ca—n’t be, the others don’t have a reason to know of y—ou.
Aoi: Ah, teacher, have I become better?
Nurse: Yes.
Nurse: So then, take care of yourself.
Aoi: Right.
Kenta: Thanks.
166.
Kenta: While we’re at it, why did you come to school?
Aoi: Ken-boy, you brought the Dream Note to school.
Kenta: Well then, it is my important treasure.
Aoi: I’ve come to not have faith in you.
Aoi: You said you were invincible and you were hurt. There’s nothing I can do in my promise of giving you the notebook, but
Aoi: As long as Ken-boy has the notebook, I have to watch you so you don’t use it for weird things or anything.
Kenta: O—oh, I give up…
Aoi: Ah, hold on a moment.
Kenta: Why?
Aoi: Need a bathroom.
167.
Kenta: People of other dimensions need bathrooms…
Kenta: While we’re at it, you came to school as you pleased.
Sign: Boys
Kenta: It’s fine that nothing has happened but…
Boys: WAAA!
Sign: BOYS
Kenta: Ge
Kenta: She a blockhead!? She went into the boy’s room!!
Aoi: Wh, what?
Kenta: …………
168.
Kenta: YOU BLOCKHEAD! What were you doing as a girl entering a boy’s----room!!
Aoi: I was just following the action pattern from Ken-boy’s knowledge.
Kenta: Girls should know to go with the girls.
Kenta: Hm—mm.
Kenta: Aah…I’ll sympathize for earlier…
Aoi: I don’t know how to us—e it, teach me.
169.
Kenta: How can I teach you that? Use it how you like, how you like!!
Aoi: Hya
Kenta: Ah~~
Kenta: Huh, hold on.
Kenta: If she obtained knowledge from me, then why would this girl ask whether to use a boy’s room or a girl’s room? And how to use it? A girl should already know how…then…
Kenta: She’s making fun of me~~!
Aoi: You’ve got it.
170.
Narrator: First period passed peacefully and it was break time—
Kenta: A~ah.
Kenta: A nightmare…
Kenta: Thinking of being with her like earlier from now on…I’d want to die…
171.
Kenta: WHA!
Kenta: UWAAAA
TN: Let me admit to this: after the last couple of chapters going from action and angst to romance and angst...we get a really fun chapter this time around! Everything starting from Kenta's bizarre nightmare (well it's not like he's seen Aoi naked yet so how he could have her like that at school is beyond belief but funny as heck) to Aoi magically joining his class using more "Dimension Power manipulation" was fun stuff. And that's not even getting into the whole bathroom bit...then again, how do beings from other worlds go to the bathroom anyway, they never explain it in any manga prior to now! (though let's say it's one thing no one wants to think about) Of course the main kicker was the "explanation" regarding "how Aoi can speak to people in this world"...yeah, I still think the real reason is "this is a manga" like before but of course that's too easy. But it does make one think: with the hundreds of manga out there where all the characters from around the world and around the universe instantly know how to speak Japanese (like all the characters from around the world/universe know how to speak English in American comics), most of them never seem to explain why. I'm really happy that Katsura did at least attempt to do it...well in a comedic way.
