March on Roppongi!
-> RTS Page for Sakigake!! Otoko Juku 3
There are many things that a man can't get when they live at an all-male academy bound by morals of fighting. But unfortunately, there are many problems in bringing the academy to fix their problems...like picking up girls.
Chp. 3: March on Roppongi!
(TN: A reference needed for this chapter: Roppongi is a district of Tokyo particularly known as a visitor destination for Westerners and its popular nightlife)
61.
Voice 1: Ho—as expected, these are the flowers of Roppongi.
Voice 2: Look, everyone’s fashion is like they stepped out of a magazine.
Togashi: Well, they say about Roppongi now is an international amusement that you go to for a spearhead of fashion.
Matsuo: Ho—there are all these foreigners here.
Togashi: It’s really a race of a different world.
Matsuo: What are we doing? If we came here, then we don’t have the things, money or freedom that we need.
Matsuo: Oh!?
Matsuo: Hey, isn’t that instructor Onihige?
Onihige: What are you doing here, looking like good youngsters?
62-63.
Girl: ………………!?
Onihige: Mi mi mi mi mi mi
Onihige: Miss college student. Ca…can you go have tea with me?
Togashi: Is…is he fl…flirting---!!
64.
Onihige: HAA HAA HAA HAA HAA
Girl: Th…this is all I have now. Pl…please forgive me……………
Girl: Kya—sa…save me---!!
Onihige: Wa…wait up----!!
Togashi: Pi…pitiful……………if anyone sees his face usually.
Hidemaro: What is he really thinking?
Onihige: You fool---! I don’t want your money---!
Girl: You’re the 20th person today--!!
Onihige: What! Please, don’t you just want to have a cup of tea with me~~!!
Girl: Kya—
65.
Foreigner: HEY YOKO!!
Yoko: GEORGE!!
Onihige: !!
Yoko: He is mine---!!
Onihige: Wh…what are you big guy……….th…this has nothing to do with you. And what’s with your punch perm?
George: THIS IS MY LOVER! (This girl is my woman!)
(TN: Since I really don’t know if it’s actual translation or Engrish, I’ll be translating any of these Japanese transliterations)
66.
Onihige: Gya!!
Yoko: George, this guy is a reckless s**t.
George: OK BABY!
Matsuo: Wh…what a disaster.
Togashi: Hahaha, this feels good. Let’s go, let’s go.
67.
Onihige: ATTENTION---!!
Onihige: ………………
Onihige: Wh…what? I was just hit by the front of a truck yesterday.
Togashi: Fufufu, what truck?
Momotarou: What a story.
Hidemaro: But he is alive.
Matsuo: Hehehe, so that was yesterday………
68.
Onihige: So then, tonight after school, all first-years will hold a military movement so we can make a moral purge on Roppongi.
Students: A military movement……!? What’s this bad premonition?
Onihige: You gentlemen know of these fellows called swingers? In particular those stupid woman who, like whores, swarm on top of the foreign men of Roppongi.
Onihige: Understand!! The purity and chastity of Japanese women today is dying due to the poisonous danger of these foreigners dominating them!! This is extremely important that cannot be ignored by us at Otokojuku!! Today, the best in both cars and men are domestic!!
Momotarou: I really don’t get his reasoning. In short, he was hit by a foreigner who didn’t like him. Thus, we have to make them our enemies.
Student: Shi, I hear you, Momo!!
69.
Onihige: We have the tempered soul of Otokojuku. We’ll make them realize it with our fists!! That is all!!
Onihige: Stop, all of you---!!
70.
Onihige: Fufufu, a disco…………According to my weekly mags, this nest of those types is where our Yamato Nadeshiko take their poisoned fangs.
(TN: A “Yamato Nadeshiko” is a woman who displays the old-style feminine virtues of Japanese culture)
Onihige: N—ow, march---!!
Bouncer: Ho…hold on, please hold on customers.
Bouncer: This is a disco proud of being the most now in high adult fashion in Roppongi.
Onihige: That’s a bit womanly…
(TN: Onihige actually makes a comment of the disco being “onari”, which is an expression of a certain society in the Ryuuken Islands where women dominate over men)
Onihige: Shut up! New fashion is imported from France---!!
Bouncer: Gya!!
71.
Matsuo: Hoo—what an amazing place. I feel we’re completely sticking out.
Onihige: Kukuku, we’re here, we’re here. Now they’ll see it with their own eyes. No—w, first for that big guy from yesterday…
72.
Onihige: Ooh, they’re here--!!
Onihige: O—K, first we’ll victimize him!! First-year Tazawa, step forward.
Tazawa: Osu, first year Tazawa stepping forward.
Onihige: I’ve heard that you were extremely strong in English in middle school. Therefore, I nominate you to interpret.
Tazawa: Osu, first year Tazawa’s specialty is English, thus I will interpret!!
Hidemaro: What’s wrong, Matsuo?
Matsuo: …!?
Matsuo: Didn’t we see that black man somewhere?
Student: Ooh, now you mention it…………
73.
Onihige: O—K, with my bright man chosen, I’ll throw out a round of harsh words that will hit him with a voice that cuts like a dosu.
(TN: A “dosu” is a type of yakuza sword)
Onihige: First say “You have a really big face, you fool”.
Tazawa: Osu, first-year Tazawa will translate.
Tazawa: I AM A BOY. THIS IS AN OCTOPUS.
(TN: A slight bit of a joke here: Onihige refers to George as a “Tako Yarou”, which is slang for a “fool”. But when Tazawa “translates” to English, he uses the typical translation of “tako”, which is “octopus”)
Onihige: Hoo, that’s pretty good.
74.
Onihige: Wahaha, good, Tanaka. Your opponent is nothing. Tell him much more scrappy s**t!!
Tazawa: Yes, teacher---!!
Tazawa: Give me a chewing gum. McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken!! I am sorry, Hige’s sorry.
(TN: Yes, this is what he says)
Matsuo: Well, we just can’t compare in the words that we know in English.
Togashi: Fufufu, seems so. We actually have a guy who knows English in our “just strength and guts” Otokojuku.
Tazawa: I am very hungry!!
George: SHUT UP! (Shut up!)
75.
Matsuo: Ooh, he was hit down again.
Togashi: Amazing punch.
Tazawa: Oh—that was dangerous.
Onihige: Take him—what are you all doing---!! Togashi---!!
Togashi: Osu, teacher!! I hate foreigners and policemen.
76.
Onihige: Hii~~yo…you---!! Whoever deserts will get court-martialed---!!
Togashi: What will we do, Momo?
Momotarou: Fufufu, bug off. I don’t know of these swingers, but how could you dispatch us so you can clear your grudge?
Onihige: Da…damn, how do they know…………
Momotarou: Let’s go, let’s go.
Tazawa: We’re better off with a Bon Odori than this disco.
(TN: “Bon Odori” is a special dance done at the end of the festival of Bon)
Yoko: Kya—you’re so dreamy, George!!
George: HA-HA!!
77.
George: WHY! IS THAT POOR GUY NUTS ABOUT A GIRL LIKE THIS? (Fufufu, but why would that old man finds this sort of girl suitable?)
George: GEEZ! THIS BITCH REALLY WANTS TO MARRY ME. (This girl thinks she really wants to marry me.) I ALREADY HAVE A WIFE AND BABIES BACK IN THE STATES. (I have wife and kids waiting for me back home)
George: JAPANESE GALS WANT TO LOVE ANY FOREIGNER. (Japanese girls always want the foreigners). THANKS TO THIS KIND OF JAPANESE BITCH, I’M FREE TO LOVE ANY TIME AND NOT RUN SHORT OF MONEY. (Thanks to this, I can have comfort or anything without being destitute)
Voice: IS IT OK TO SAY SUCH STUFF IN FRONT OF HER? (Fufufu, should you say that in front of her?)
George: SURE, YOU KNOW, SHE CAN’T UNDERSTAND ENGLISH AT ALL. SHE’S A REALL IDIOT, THOUGH SHE SAYS SHE’S A COLLEGE STUDENT. (Wh—at? Though she’s a college girl, she’s got nothing in her head. She doesn’t understand English.)
George: HA-HA, JAPAN IS A REAL PARADISE. RIGHT, BABY? (Wahaha, Japan really is a foreigner’s paradise, right baby?)
Foreigner: HI BABY!
Togashi: Huh!? Momo…
78.
Momotarou: OOPS, MY HAND SLIPPED. (Sorry, my hand slipped.)
Students: Mo, Momo……!?
79.
George: S**T! YOU SPEAK ENGLISH? (Fufufu, you know English?)
Momotarou: YEAH, NOT WITH A GOOD SOUTHERN ACCENT LIKE YOU, REDNECK! (Aah, well it isn’t like rural southern style)
George: HEY, YOU SPEAK THE SAME LANGUAGE, JAP. (So then you can speak to me.) DON’T YOU KNOW I’M J.J. GEORGE, HEAVYWEIGHTER RANKED OF WBB, SON OF A BITCH? (I’m the professional WBB Heavyweight ranked J.J. George)
George: I’M THE STRONGEST! (That’s what I am----!!)
80.
George: OOH……!!
Momotarou: SORRY! I DIDN’T SAY I WOULD BOX WITH YOU. (Sorry, I’m not planning on boxing you.)
George: DAMN IT! (Damn!!)
81.
George: WAAAAGGH!!
Togashi: Ka…Karate………
82.
Momotarou: THERE’S NO NEED TO COUNT, I SUPPOSE. (Fufufu, we don’t need a count, I see.)
Student: I don’t understand, he just…………
Togashi: Fufufu, even “just strength and guts” Otokojuku shows some scattered lights of intelligence.
Foreigners: DON’T GET CARRIED AWAY, JAP. (Don’t mess with us, Jap!)
Togashi: HEY—GREAT!!
Matsuo: We’ll show our dancing at this Japan/America Disco Tournament---!!
83.
George: OH! YOKO, HELP ME!!
Yoko: NO~~!!
Yoko: Can’t you go out with me? I’m a first year at Seikouman Girls University…………
Momotarou: Can’t take you, girl college student.
TN: So...how about that English in this chapter? Which person's talk would you rather have!? Yeah, all joking aside, the way Miyashita used English in this chapter was very strange...but intentional considering that the Japanese are known to be joked in their "Engrish". (let alone the boxer talking like...well, close to a typical African-American in popular media) It's peculiar that Onihige would want to literally destroy the Roppongi way of life because girls don't like him, but that's what makes this series fun. I did like Momotarou handling things...but sometimes I think he makes it too easy. Though probably the only really key factor of this chapter (besides the English and the fact that Miyashita can draw girls though they become few and far between in this series) is the introduction of the bespectacled freshman Tazawa. Like Hidemaro and Matsuo, he mostly seems to get his focus early in the series...but at least his Engrish is probably better than Onihige's.
