Monster Survival
-> RTS Page for Sakigake!! Otoko Juku 7
Man is constantly finding ways to define themselves from the animals of nature for survival and superiority. However, when you're stranded in an environment where the animals rule, that's where the true "men" emerge...well, among other things!
Chp. 7: Monster Survival
(TN: The title is actually “Mouryou Survival”, with “Mouryou” being a generic term for a collection of goblins and spirits. Besides, with what really happens in this chapter, “monster” was a suitable replacement)
153.
Matsuo: Usu!
(TN: Matsuo essentially said “Osu”, but I kept it since it was a slightly different version of the same thing…and somehow didn’t think it was different to differentiate with “osu”)
Student 1: What’s with the appearance of Matsuo and Hidemaro!!
Student 2: Here, we got senbei, caramel and chocolate.
(TN: “Senbei” is a Japanese rice cracker)
Student 3: Wahahaha, so today is Otokojuku’s once-a-year hike. I’ve been so happy that I couldn’t sleep last night.
Student 4: Du—mmy, this isn’t like a grade-school hike.
Togashi: But it’s weird. I haven’t seen the teachers.
Student 1: So then who exactly is leading us!?
Student 2: And we had to gather in the evening…………I don’t know where we’re going, but it will already be dark when we get there.
Momotarou: Fufufu, this will be a fun hike. We’re going together with some older guys nicer than our teachers.
Togashi: Wh…what……!?
154.
Edogawa: We’re here---! Is everybody present--!!
Matsuo: Gugegege, it’s…it’s…………!!
155.
Edogawa: Fufufufufu, our hike today will be a combined recreation with we second-years.
Maruyama: We’re going to be leading. Isn’t it fun we’re coming?
Students: (to themselves) Damn, who thought of this? (Out loud) Osu, please take care of us!!
Edogawa: Have you been well, Momo?
Momotarou: Well I was greatly embarrassed during the Meeting Celebration.
Momotarou: Fufufu, are your sleeping legs alright, senpai?
Edogawa: Kukuku, I don’t need your worry. Today I’ll show you real hell.
Edogawa: O—K, the buses are here. The first-years will ride the back bus---!!
First-Years: O, Osu!
Matsuo: I, I have another bad premonition, uh…
156.
Matsuo: Where exactly are we going in the middle of the mountains……………!? I…I want to go home already.
Student: It’s already pitch dark outside.
157.
Sign 1: ORIENT SAFARI PARK
Sign 2: ENTRY FOR TODAY HAS ENDED
Edogawa: O—K, we’re here. Everyone get off the bus and get in line--!!
Student 1: What’s going on……!?
Togashi: Shouldn’t this zoo be closed since it’s the middle of the night?
Edogawa: Fufufu, this is a safari park that boasts being the largest in the East. Within this huge site, every known wild animal is running free.
158.
Edogawa: From here, all of you will climb over the wall and spend one night in there. Each will be in a five-man squad. Making any bigger groups is absolutely unforgivable.
Togashi: Wh…what---!!
Edogawa: Fufufu, it’s said that lions train their cubs by throwing them into bottomless valleys. I don’t know how many among you will live through to dawn, but this is the whip of love so we can train all you cuties into men!!
Student 1: I don’t get the reason for this.
Student 2: I thought this wasn’t going to be a normal hike but…oh well.
Student 3: Oh~~let’s go in quickly---!!
Edogawa: Wahahaha, Otokojuku’s famous Monster Survival starts----!!
159.
Matsuo: Th…this is just like an African jungle.
Togashi: Wh…what are those ghastly cries!?
Matsuo: He…hey, Tazawa, stop joking!! Why are you strangling my neck---!!
Tazawa: What are you saying, Matsuo? I’m not doing anything, obviously.
Matsuo: So…who’s strangling my neck……………!!
160.
Everyone: Uwaaa---!!
Hidemaro: Ma…Matsuo---!!
Kyomi: Ru…Run---!!
161.
Tazawa: Fu—that was dangerous. What really is going on?
Matsuo: So then we won’t move and resign ourselves to quietly stay around this rock until morning.
Togashi: Damn, those second-years are messing with us. Someday I’ll really cook them!!
Togashi: ……………!?
Togashi: Why…does this rock have eyes………!?
Everyone: Uwaaa---!!
162.
Togashi: A river---! Jump in----!!
Togashi: Wha!?
Togashi: Uwaaa---!!
Voice: Wahaha, we’ve done it. We’ve finally done it to those first-year brats. They’re truly in the world of great hunting.
(TN: Yes, the “great hunting” was in the Japanese so I kept that in)
Maruyama: What shall we do, Edogawa!?
163.
Maruyama: WAA!!
Maruyama: Wh…what’s with that appearance!!
Edogawa: Fufufu, surprised? Look at my gorilla costume.
Edogawa: I’m not overlooking this chance. Within this turmoil, that Momo-guy will get killed as if it was done by a gorilla.
Edogawa: Fufufu, Momo, today will be the day you die.
164.
Momotarou: Hold on, don’t move.
Student 1: A…LION---!!
Student 2: Momo---!!
165.
Student: Wh…what………!!
166.
Momotarou: Fufufu, ri-ght, good boy.
Student: Mo…Momo---!!
Student 1: What’s wrong? How could he stand up to it?
Momotarou: Hoho~~h, it’s there.
Momotarou: You have a thorn stuck in your paw?
Momotarou: It will be fine now.
Student 1: I…don’t believe this.
Student 2: Is…he Tarzan……………
167.
Tazawa: Fufu, how’s this? Aren’t I smart………
Hidemaro: Animals instinctively fear fire.
Tazawa: If we stay within the ring of fire like this until morning, then none of the beasts will make a step towards us.
Togashi: Oh—Tazawa, you really are smart.
Edogawa: Fufufu, come, come. When you see this form, they’ll fly off their hip…
168.
Edogawa: FUGOO----!!
Momotarou: …………
Edogawa: Fufufu, how’s that? They’re so surprised they can’t speak.
169.
Edogawa: !!
Momotarou: Fufufu, you’ve got a sense of duty. Someone like you is a reliable bodyguard in this safari park.
Edogawa: Ho…hold on…!!
Momotarou: How bizarre. This gorilla can speak human language.
170.
Edogawa: GYAA---!!
Edogawa: Wh…what are you doing? Hurry and save me---!! It’s me, second-year acting head Edogawa---!!
Momotarou: That gorilla can’t be him. How could the habits of gorillas leave out that they’re Edogawa-senpai?
171.
Momotarou: It’s impolite to refer to yourself as our honorable Edogawa-senpai---!!
Edogawa: Gue!!
Momotarou: Edogawa-senpai is truly an incredible senpai who really thinks about us----!! Understand, you f**king gorilla---!!
Student 1: Fufufu, a person like that Momo is evil too.
Student 2: However, that gorilla isn’t complaining.
Edogawa: Th…thanks ~~!!
172.
“Lion”: Oh—it’s getting cold. Can’t you put more on the fire, big bro?
“Monkey”: These Japanese nights are cold.
“Zebra”: Aah, this is nostalgic of my home in Africa.
Togashi: Ho…how would the animals not get a step near us if we put up a fire? Haven’t the animals in the safari park ended up coming here--!!
Hidemaro: Tazawa, you’re the biggest idiot in Otokojuku---!!
173.
Second-Years: Uwahaha, this really was our greatest work. How many of those first years survived?
Maruyama: Fufufu, so how did it go, Edogawa-san? Of course you killed that Momo.
Second-Year: Haven’t you taken off your costume yet?
Maruyama: E…Edogawa-san…!?
Second-Year: Hi…Hie---! Th…this is a real gorilla---!!
TN: As much as I've been complaining, this pretty much was a nice, mostly flawless chapter for the most part. Having the Second Years return so soon after their first appearance was a nice change of pace...particularly with what is coming compared to the idiocies of Edogawa and Maruyama. Probably one of the best things in the chapter was Edogawa's attempt at "revenge" with the gorilla costume...and how Momotarou unexpectedly thinks it is a real gorilla and finds an excuse to beat it up. Surprisingly, Momotarou wasn't really too much a problem this time around, mostly from the way he befriended that lion and used it alongside his own skills to survive the night in the safari park. (though I do wonder why he's stuck with a bunch of faceless unknowns) Probably much funnier, though, was watching the other lead first years running around from one danger to another...and how Tazawa's brilliant idea screws them in the end. Guess animals don't like Japan that much, huh.
